2 day sale - Mulberry Bank Auctions
2 day sale
Fine Antiques and Collectables
Friday 25th and Saturday 26th April
The days are getting longer, the nights are getting shorter and much to everyone’s relief the temperature
is getting (slightly) warmer. Yes, Scottish springtime is upon us and here at Mulberry Bank we have a
refreshing, vibrant and exciting collection of items in our forthcoming April sale.
To prepare you for the inevitably glorious weather we will soon be enjoying, we have everything you
require to take full advantage of the great outdoors. Lot 500, the Pashley ‘Picador’ tricycle will get you
from A to B in a quick and more importantly, fashionable manner. For those of you who are of a more
leisurely disposition there is an excellent array of brand new teak garden furniture (lots 669, 670 and
671), perfect for relaxing outside after a long day at the office. For the avid angler, be sure to get hooked
onto lots 298-308, where you will be spoiled for choice; from hooks, reels, rods and flies, we have the right
equipment to help you land that elusive whopper!
The jewellery section of our sale once again offers some beautiful pieces that include diamonds,
tanzanites, labradorites, rubies, emeralds and many, many more. Lot 13, the Art Deco diamond solitaire
ring is a particular favourite of ours and we know we won’t be the only admirers come sale day.
Henry VIII and his wives (heads and all) make an appearance in Royal Doulton form, spanning lots
178-184, whilst we also boast a great range of glassware. The Karen Lawrence studio glass vase, lot 197,
has proved to be very popular on social media. Furthermore, Pater Layton’s studio glass vases have also
generated a lot of interest, with lot 200 particularly catching the eye of staff and visitors alike. As always,
the Art Deco Royal Doulton ‘tango’ pattern tea service (lot 188) is expected to appeal to a wide audience.
The collectables are as varied as they are numerous: from foreign shores to rural Scotland there is an
eclectic mix to satisfy different tastes. The majesty of the Orient arrives in our saleroom in the form of lot
212, forty Chinese tiles believed to be from Raffles Hotel Singapore, providing the lucky bidder with a
tangible slice of Asian opulence at its very finest. Additionally, keep an eye out for the ever popular
Chinese ivory lots. From closer to home we have lot 420, a magnificent Victorian travelling doctor’s
medicine chest with a fitted velvet interior. What home wouldn’t be complete without ivory cased
needles, syringes, scales, weights and, of course, your very own bottle of poison? And don’t forget lot 364,
the Cameron ancient hunting kilt, sporran and jacket-ideal for a summer full of tossing the caber and
ceilidh dancing into the wee sma’ hours.
There is also a vast selection of furniture to be auctioned, covering a range of different time periods. The
impressive William IV mahogany framed armchair, lot 635, is one of our oldest pieces in the sale, whilst
lot 704, the Edwardian oak sideboard, truly has to be seen to believed. The beautifully crafted Acorn
Industries oak dining table (lot 623) may turn out to be the star of the show but no auction would be
complete without the cool and the retro, and the highly collectable 1970s Pieff ‘Beta Range’ suite
provides this in abundance. With plenty to choose from amongst the furniture in this sale we have no
doubt you will find something to satisfy your needs.
There are plenty more amazing items but, alas, we simply don’t have enough space to detail all of our
fantastic lots here. We hope you enjoy perusing the catalogue and look forward to welcoming you to our
viewing day on Thursday 24th and then of course again on our sale days - Friday 25th and Saturday
26th.Good luck and happy bidding!

affect their interpretation.
2. BUYING
2.12
2.13 2.14 2.15
2.16 Collection of Lots
2.17
Subject to clause 2.15, You shall at Your own risk and expense take
away all lots purchased and paid for by You not later than 1 week
following the date of the relevant auction. After this time You will be
liable for any removal, storage or other associated charges incurred
by the Auctioneer in respect of the lot.
It is Your responsibility to find out about collection and delivery
arrangements.
2.18
Bidding
2.1
Bidders shall register their particulars with the Auctioneer prior to
bidding at an auction, and if requested shall provide banking or
other suitable references.
2.2
The highest bid accepted by the Auctioneer shall be the buyer at the
hammer price. Any dispute about a bid shall be settled at the
Auctioneer’s absolute discretion.
2.3 All bidders, unless otherwise agreed with the Auctioneer in advance, will be deemed to be buying as principals.
2.4 Once made and accepted by the Auctioneer, no bid may be withdrawn.
2.5 The Auctioneer’s right to bid on behalf of the seller is expressly reserved up to the amount of any reserve and the right to refuse any bid is also reserved.
2.6
Bidding increments shall be at the Auctioneer’s sole discretion.
2.7
While pre-sale bids can be arranged, prospective buyers are strongly advised to attend the auction. You are always responsible for any decision to bid for a particular lot and it shall be assumed that You have carefully inspected and satisfied Yourself as to the
condition of a particular lot. If so instructed, the Auctioneer may bid on Your behalf but neither the Auctioneer nor any of its employees shall be responsible for any failure to do so. Where two or more pre-
sale bids at the same level are recorded, the Auctioneer reserves the right in its absolute discretion to prefer the first recorded bid.
2.8
All pre-sale bids require to be received by the Auctioneer prior to the
commencement of the relevant sale. Telephone bids, must however
be received by 5pm on the day prior to the sale.
Payment & Charges
2.9 2.10 2.11 The Buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereonto the Auctioneer. In all sales the premium is 17.5% up to £50,000 and 15% thereafter.
VAT is charged on the premium at the rate imposed by law at the date of sale. VAT is not normally payable on the hammer price nor on the premium for books bought at auction. If VAT is imposed by law on the hammer price of an item, this will be highlighted in the relevant catalogue and VAT shall be payable in addition.
The symbol † indicates works which may be subject to Droit de Suite or Artist’s Resale Right. The Auctioneer is required to collect a royalty payment for all qualifying works of art when the artist is still living, and this will be charged to the Buyer on the hammer price and in addition to the Buyer’s premium. It will not apply to
works where the hammer price is less than 1000 euros. The charge for works of art at and above 1000 euros and below 50,000 euros is 4%. Charges on items selling above this price are calculated on
a sliding scale which will be provided on request from the Auctioneer. No handling costs or additional fees are retained by
the Auctioneer. Resale royalties are not subject to VAT. The sterling
amount of the royalty payment is calculated at the relevant rate of
exchange at the European Central Bank on the date of sale as
determined by the Auctioneer.
Payments for goods bought at auction shall be made within 3 Business Days of the relevant auction or sale.
Payments may be made by cash, Switch or Debit Cards and Visa
and Mastercard. Payment by credit card will be subject to a
surcharge of 3% plus VAT. The Auctioneer does not accept
American Express. Cheques are accepted for payment if
accompanied by a cheque guarantee card with goods only being
released once the cheque has cleared.
All bids made through the saleroom.com will be subject to a further 3% charge on the hammer price.
All sums due to the Auctioneer by You must be settled prior to bidding at a future auction and the Auctioneer reserves the right to reject or ignore bids by You or Your agent until such sums have been paid in full.
Title to any lots purchased shall not pass to You until You have made
payment in full and until then no item can be removed from the
Auctioneer’s premises.
Non payment or failure to collect purchases
2.19
If any lot is not paid for in full and taken away in accordance with theseTerms, or if there is any other breach of these Terms, the Auctioneer, as agent for the seller and on their behalf, shall at its absolute discretion and without prejudice to any other rights it may have, be entitled to exercise one or more of the following remedies:
2.19.1 to proceed against You for damages for breach of contract;
2.19.2 to rescind the sale of that lot and any other bought by You from
the Auctioneer;

2.19.4 to remove, store and insure the lot at Your expense, either at the
Auctioneer’s premises or elsewhere;
2.19.5 to charge interest on the total amount due to the extent it remains unpaid for more than 3 Business Days after the sale at the rate of 5% above the Bank of England’s base rate applying from time to
time for the period from the due date for payment until payment in full;
2.19.6 to apply any proceeds of sale from other lots due to You, whether from past or future sales, towards the settlement of any amount due to the Auctioneer, or to exercise a lien the right to retain possession of any of Your property in the Auctioneer’s possession for any purpose until the sum due is paid in full.

Notwithstanding any seller who has opted to pay the additional accidental loss and damage warranty charge see 3.8.3 which covers You for all damage or loss up to the amount received by the Auctioneer in respect of Your item from its insurers.
If a claim is made by You for the complete physical loss of an item and the Auctioneer pays sums to you in settlement of Your claim, you agree that the Auctioneer shall take full legal title to such item.
Unsold or Withdrawn Lots
3.13
3.14
If a lot is unsold at any auction, it must be collected by You, the seller, from the Auctioneer’s premises within 7 days of the date of such auction, failing which, the Auctioneer shall be entitled to sell such goods and recover from the price realised all costs and charges incurred by the Auctioneer. Any reserve which may have been attached to such lots will no longer apply.
Any withdrawn lots must be removed from the Auctioneer’s premises
by You, as seller, and at Your expense within 3 Business Days of
instructing the Auctioneer to withdraw the lot. Any failure to remove
lots will result in You, as seller, being charged for any removal,
storage or other associated charges incurred by the Auctioneer.

Auctioneer will not be liable for unauthorised access to information
supplied by you.
Any notice to You may be given by first class mail, in which case it shall be deemed to have been received by the addressee 48
hours after posting.
If the Auctioneer fails or delays to exercise a right under these Terms, it shall not be deemed to have waived that right. If the Auctioneer waives any right under these Terms, it shall not be deemed to have waived its rights in relation to a subsequent breach of the same or any other provision of these Terms.
Any pre- or post- auction sales of lots by the Auctioneer shall
incorporate these Terms as if sold at auction.
