Location: Lakota East High School Auditorium 6840 Lakota Lane, Liberty Township, OH 45044-9578 Bing Yang 杨冰 Instructor of Bing Yang Chinese Performing Arts Center Ms. Bing Yang is an award‐winning professional performer and the instructor of the Bing Yang Chinese Performing Arts Center (BYC‐PAC). Bing started her professional dance training at age six. At age twelve, she was admitted to the Liao Ning Performing Arts School in China and graduated as one of the honor students six years later. In 1993, Bing joined the Beijing Peking Opera Troupe, one of the most prestigious Peking Opera organizations in China. Bing moved to the United States with her family in 2000. She is currently a member of the Chinese Theatre Works (CTW) in New York City. As a principle dancer and lecturer of CTW, she and her team performed in many places including the Rockefeller Center, the New York Metropolitan Museum, the Lincoln Performing Arts Center, etc. and have won multiple awards. BYC‐PAC Studio The Bing Yang Chinese Performing Arts Center (BYCPAC) was established in 2008. BYC‐PAC is a non‐profit organization dedicated to promote the development, advancement and appreciation of Chinese cultural heritage through the art of Chinese dance. Our performers bring the richness of Chinese traditional dance, Peking Opera and Chinese music to audiences across the Greater Cincinnati area. The center offers various classes to children from Pre‐K to teens and to adults. Since its inception, the center has seen tremendous growth and continues to broaden its appeal. Our dancers are involved in traditional and modern dance styles. The quality of the choreography, dancing and costumes delight both Chinese and American audiences. Each year our dancers are invited to perform at various occasions and events such as the annual Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration, the Mid‐ autumn Festival Celebration and multicultural festivals from local schools, communities and public libraries. She had her first dance lesson at the age of 3 and started her Chinese dance at (BYC-PAC) in 2008. Emily Fang (10) is a 5th grader at Mason Intermediate School. Dance is her favorite sport. She loves dance very much. Children’s Dance -- 少儿舞蹈 2. Flower Fairy----花仙子 Christine Zou (邹家盈, 10) is a dancer and musician. She will be performing in “The Nutcracker”, produced by the “Cincinnati Ballet". Jocelyn Kang (康瓅, 12) is a seventh grader at Mason Middle School and has been studying Chinese dance with Bing Yang since third grade. She enjoys reading, playing piano and clarinet, whistling, and joking with friends. Shawna Huang (黄夏娜, 13) is an 8th grader at Mason Middle School. She has been learning dance for many years. She also enjoys reading and music. Kathy Wang (汪慧莹, 13) is an 8th grader at Seven Hills Middle School, who likes reading, music and tennis. Dancing, with its own vocabulary, music and color, gives her great enjoyment in this unique form of expression. Yijing Wang (王珍珍 , 13) is an 8th grader at Lakota Ridge Junior School. She has been dancing since she was three. In her free time, she enjoys ballet, dance, reading, and hanging out with her friends. She enjoys performing for others because it allows her to share both her culture and a unique style of movement with many people. She is from Fogang China in Guangdong Province. She loves her Chinese dance class and all the friends she has made. When she's not dancing, Elise loves to play the piano and read. Aasia Gabbour ( 洋 洋 , 8) loves to perform piano and Erhu “concerts” for her Barbie dolls after practice sessions. She also loves downhill skiing and recently discovered Kindle as her best friend. Jessica Li (欢欢, 8) is a sweet and sunny girl. She started learning dance with Ms. Bing Yang in the Fall of 2010. She loves dancing and enjoys all the practice and performance. Nicole Lim (8) has been exerting her passion in Chinese dance and ballet ever since she was five years old. She also craves reading! 12. Chess Match -- 对弈 Dance Of the Chinses Opera-Water sleeve And Sword Judi Hu (胡珠頔, 9) is a 4th grader. She started to learn Chinese dance with Ms. Yang at BYC-PAC in 2009 Stephanie Hu (胡冠仪, 9) is a 4th grader. She enjoys reading. She ice skates a lot and has danced since she was 4. Beautiful Scenery-------秀色 Dancers: Kedi Hu, Jocelyn Kang, Wendy Lu, Rachael Sun, Kathy Wang, Yijing Wang Sydney Lovro (刘可欣, 9) fell in love with Chinese folk dance at age 5. Besides dance, Sydney also likes to play piano duets with her brother. Katherine Shi (石敏, 9) started to take dance lessons when she was 4 years old. She is one of the first dancers to join BYCPAC in 2008. Emi Tao ( 陶 荣 未 , 9) is a girl who loves to dance traditional Chinese dances the most. Diana Yue (岳丹洋, 8) is a 4th grader. Dancing is her favorite extracurricular activity, whenever there is music, she can't help to start to dance. 16. Bai Jia Xing----百家姓 Dancers: Judi Hu, Stephanie Hu, Nicole Lim, Sophia Liu, Sydney Lovro, Katherine Shi, Emma Wang, Julia Xiong, Diana Yue, Annie, Zhang, Christine Zou 2 7 Jillian Marie Bao Nowicki (6) attends kindergarten. She has been taking Chinese dance lessons with Miss Bing since April 2011. Besides dancing, she loves karate and singing in the church choir, time with Bing, her Chinese dance friends, and singing! Vivian Xu (徐朗, 6) started dance training at age 4 with Ms. Bing Yang and is currently taking lessons in piano and figure skating. With positive and passionate personality, Vivian always delivers her best to the audience. Ellen Zhang (张乐冰, 6) started to practice dance (Ballet and Tap) since 4 years old. Ellen loves to dance, swim, draw and play piano outside of her school time. Mia HaiMan (7) is a second grader at Heritage Elementary school. She enjoys all forms of dance including Chinese and Hip Hop, and loves to play the drums, play legos, and ride her bike. Ivy Han (韩艾薇, 7) joined Ms. Bing Yang’s dance class two years ago and has learned Chinese folk dances such as the Umbrella dance, handkerchief dance and others. Kathryn Guo (郭洁琳, 7) started learning Chinese dance with Ms. Yang in fall of 2009. She works very hard and always gives 100% on whatever she is asked to do. Marie Jin ( 金 玛 睿 , 7) loves dance, piano and painting. She practiced at Webby Dance school for over 2 years before she joined dance classes at Ms. Bing Yang's center in early 2011. Dance Introduction 舞蹈简介 Children’s Dance --少儿舞蹈 Children’s dance helps children develop the basic ability of body balance as well as the understanding of music. 主要训练幼儿的身体协调能力,和提高对音乐的理解能力。 Traditional Folk Dance -- 民间舞 The artistic specialties of folk dance are: 1. Singing and Dancing simultaneously, free and lively 2. Use of props, such as fans, umbrella, etc 中国民间舞其主要的艺术特点是: 1. 载歌载舞, 自由活泼。 2. 巧用道具. 技艺结合. 如:扇子,手绢,花灯,花伞,等….. Solo --独舞 Solo dance is a one person dance. Solo dance is a high level dance where dancers use his or her techniques, body language and facial expression to reflect the character’s inner thoughts and expression. Solo dance requires that the dancer has an extremely high level of control and fundamental skill as well as expressiveness and the ability to show the spirit of a given character. 独舞 又叫单人舞。是由一个人单独表演的完成一个主体的舞蹈。多用来直接抒发人物的思想感情和 揭示人物的内心世界。 独舞演员要求有良好的身体素质,扎实的基本功,有较高的表演技巧和较强 的刻画人物的能力。 Duet --双人舞 The Duet dance not only requires dancers to have the quality of a solo dancer, but it also requires the two dancers to cooperate with each other. Teamwork is a fundamental element for duet dance. 演员除要求具备独舞演员的条件外,还要求具有较高的合作意识.,表演时能默契 配合。 Mimi Liao (咪咪, 7) is a cheerful kid with a good sense of humor. She loves dancing, drawing, playing piano, gymnastics and swimming. She is the youngest on the Mason Comet Skipper team. Modern Dance --现代舞 Joyce Liu (刘欣予, 7) is a playful girl and a ballet dancer for 3 years. She also enjoys swimming, playing piano and reading Junie B. Jones. Classical Dance --古典舞 Modern dance is a type of dance which is created by the dancer’s own imagination and inspiration. 现代舞是一种舞蹈。你坐在他面前,你以为它是什么,它就是什么,你理解了什么,它就是什么。 Sophia Liu (刘飞扬, 7) is a 2nd grader. She has danced since she was 3. She likes to play with her brother Jonathan. The beginning of Chinese classical dance can be dated back to 5,000 years ago. It is a result of the reorganizing, refining and reworking of the art form in an attempt to reach perfection. Chinese classical dance has a unique cultural heritage. The Aerial movement of classical dance involves highflying dives, dexterous leaps and diverse spins. Movements, poses and gestures have an important role in Chinese classical dance. The beauty of the Chinese classical dance emphasizes the dancer’s fingers, hands, neck and head. The delicate movement of the dance form gives the effect of elegance and grace. Christy Sun (孙羽, 7) is our family's precious darling. She has a sense of humor. She likes playing chess and video games. 中国古典舞作为舞蹈艺术中的一个类别, 是在民间舞的基础上经过了提炼, 整理, 加工, 和创造。 中国 古典舞在 50 年代开始大力发展,曾一度被称为”戏曲舞蹈”, 形, 神, 劲, 律 作为身韵基本功的动作要 素, 高度概括了身韵的全部内容。 6 3 Introduction of Dancers 演员介绍 Katelyn Kang (康璐, 17), a senior at William Mason High School, has been studying Ballet since she was 3 years old. She switched to Chinese dance when she was in the eighth grade as one of Bing Yang’s first students. She has performed solo and duet dances on various stages at schools and community culture events and celebrations throughout the region. Her favorite styles of dancing are the sword and long ribbon dance. Besides dance, she is actively involved in her high school’s Speech and Debate team and Science Olympiad team. In her spare time, she writes novels, volunteers at fundraisers, and studies History. Kedi Hu (胡恺頔, 13), is an 8th grade student at Mason Middle School. She started dancing ballet at age 4, and began to learn Chinese dance in 2009. Outside of dance and school, Kedi enjoys drawing, Chinese painting, making jewelry, playing piano and cello, and writing poetry. She is actively involved in many art‐related organizations in the Cincinnati area. Kedi has danced in various solo, duet, and group performances throughout the Greater Cincinnati area and performed a Chinese Ribbon Solo at the Metropolitan Museum of Art earlier this year. Kedi enjoys experiencing and sharing traditional Chinese culture with the community through performing Chinese dance. 4 Sarah Yue (岳鑫姝, 4) loves candy bars, loves to negotiate with her parents when asked to do something, loves sports, and of course dancing. Alisa Zhao (赵若涛, 4). Her favorite things are dancing, drawing and reading. Iris Zhu (朱雨霏, 4) is currently in pre-school. Her hobbies include drawing, dancing and gymnastics. Kayla Docherty is 5 years old and has been taking dance for about 7 months. She loves spending time with Bing, her Chinese dance friends, and singing! Eileen Fan (樊肇宜, 5. Chinese name means ‘a beautiful start’) loves dancing, drawing, and is beginning to enjoy playing the piano. She is an esteemed and beloved young lady with a bright future. Annie Jin (金安妮, 5) is in kindergarten. She loves the arts, dancing and music. She started her dance class at Mrs. Bing Yang's center in the Spring, 2011. Sophia Liu (刘予涵, 5) loves music and dance. She started her first pop music class when she was 2 years old and she is a big fan of traditional Chinese dancing. Amelia Wells (5) is in Kindergarten this year. Amelia is from Chengdu, China in Sichuan Province. Chinese Dance class challenges Amelia and helps her gain strength in her legs. Amelia loves socializing with all her friends at dance class. Sophie L. Zhao (赵品仪, 5) loves dancing, including ballet and Chinese dance. Her favorite animals are two puppies: Summer and Coco. Julia Zhu (朱婧琳, 5) is in Kindergarten. She loves to dance, draw and read. 5
