CHI, The Spa
As soon as the elevator doors open to the softly lit fourth floor, guests are greeted with
a sense of calm and the lingering hint of burning incense. The sense of detachment

Exclusive Facial
Pearls have been used for health and beauty for over
2,000 years. Chemical analysis shows that pearls contain
amino acids (the building blocks of protein and collagen),
minerals, including calcium, and polysaccharides for skin
tone, clarity and smooth texture. It is also known that
pearls contain age control nutrients that reduce the
transfer of melanin to the skin, hence alleviating dark
patches and spots. In traditional Chinese medicine, pearl
powder has a cooling effect with balancing properties. It
eases inflammation and supports the skin'
s natural
metabolism to heal, rejuvenate, minimise pores and
reduce redness. In the Qing Dynasty, Ci’xi, the last
empress dowager of China, is said to have preferred pearl masks to maintain her
complexion.
Available exclusively at the CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou, the
Oriental Pearl Radiance Facial therapist applies nano pearl powder – pearl powder so
fine a grain is just one thousandth of a millimetre in size, thus enabling a higher
absorption rate of nutrients. The whole treatment also includes a tension releasing
back massage, a pressure point face massage and an antioxidant green tea face
compress for maximum radiance effect.
