TURN OFF THE GAS AND ELECTRICAL POWER BEFORE INSTALLING BLOWER! When installed, make sure to contain any excess wire of the cord set; Preventing it from making contact with moving or hot objects. Drywall dust or other fragments may be present in your fireplace’s vent space, clean this area before you install the blower kit. Any bearing or motor damage resulting from this condition is not covered by the warranty policy. This Blower Kit is tested and safe when installed in accordance with these installation instructions. It is your responsibility to read all instructions and consult the Owner’s Installation Manual for your particular model number for Supplemental Information before starting installation. Blower operates on 120V/60Hz power. Blower Kit Parts Check the contents of the carton. Make sure nothing was damaged in shipment. Do NOT install a damaged blower kit! Qty. Description Blower - Magnetic Mount 1 Thermodisc / Heat Sensor 1 Variable Speed Control Small Ground Screw 1 1 1 1 1 Installation Instructions (Downloadable) 1 Power Cord 3-Prong to 2-Prong Adapter Jumper Wire (Black) Step 2: Connect black and white wires of power cord to either metal spade attached to motor; push disconnects onto the metal tabs. Use small screw to ground ring terminal to small hole on end of fan. (Figure: 1) Position blower with rectangle air exit ports facing up and motor facing left. Slide blower into lower vent space centered against the rear wall.(Figures: 1,3&16) For “SL” Series, see (Figures: 5&14); a removable cross-member bar may be present. Step 1: Turn Off Fireplace and allow it to cool down. Disconnect from 120V Power. Shut off the Gas supply. Remove the louver which covers the lower vent space below the firebox. Lay cord set out in a straight line, with the 3-Prong Power Plug furthest away from the fireplace. Installer is responsible to check local codes and read all instructions prior to installation. (Figure: 2) Multi-Sided fireplace see Figure: 13. Step 2: With the magnetic Thermodisc and Variable Speed control connected together, place the thermodisc to the underside of the firebox. Typically, there is a screw stud right of center on the underside of the firebox or on the lower right side of the firebox, place next to screw stud or in this area on underside of firebox. (Figure: 3,4,5 & 15) Figure: 4 The silver disc of the Thermodisc must be touching metal side of the firebox to sense heat. The magnets will simply hold itself to the metal. Step 3: The Varibale Speed Control may be mounted on the right side of the lower vent space (Figure: 6) or on the front of the center control panel (Figure: 5). Wipe off the mounting location to ensure it is clean. Remove the clear backing of velcro attached to Variable Speed Control and apply to the mounting location. Turn the dial to the left and it will click off, turn right to reduce speed. VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL Figure: 5 (SL) SERIES CROSS-MEMBER BAR NOTCH THERMODISC / HEAT SENSOR You may want to wait and run blower a few times to see where you would like to mount the variable speed control. The speed control must be in the ON position in order for the blower to run. The blower will not turn on until the Thermodisc reaches approximately 120 degrees and the variable speed control is in the ON position. CL ICK Power Strip style Junction Box Power Strip style: Insert the white wire from the Variable Speed Control and the loose black wire from the Thermdisc into of the two small ports in the lower corner of Junction Box. Below where ‘FAN’ is printed, one port is above the other. Insert the fan Plug where “FAN” is printed on the Junction Box. (Figure: 6&7) VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL JUNCTION BOX Figure: 6 NEUTRAL THERMODISC / HEAT SENSOR TRANS FAN BLACK REM/AUX WHITE Metal style Junction Box HOT BLACK FAN Figure: 7 Metal Style: Connect one end of Jumper wire to white wire of Variable Speed Control and other end of Jumper wire to black wire (female disconnect) from Junction Box. Connect black wire of Thermodisc to the other black wire from Junction Box. Push disconnects together, one fits inside the other. (Figure 8,9 & 10.) Use 3-Prong to 2-Prong plug adapter and insert fan plug into receptacle labeled “FAN”. (Figures: 11&12) WH ITE k Blac The black wire of variable speed control is connected to black wire of Thermodisc. Connect other black wire of thermodisc to male disconnect (Black Wire) on power cord. (Figures: 11&12) Black VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL BLOWER Plug fan power cord into the power receptacle. This means the Heat Sensor must be in contact with a hot spot on the underside of the Firebox. Finishing Steps: If appliance is connected to a gas supply, turn it back on. If Appliance is connected to 120 Volt Power, turn it back on. FAN For multi-sided fireplaces, the blower is positioned on a side under the vent space. This is an example for ST & PIER models. When installing the blower fan kit, it must be electrically grounded in accordance with CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 and/or Local Codes. Installations in the USA must conform to local codes, or in absence of local codes or the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1-1988. When installing the blower fan kit, it must be grounded in accordance with local codes, or in absence of local codes, with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70-1987.
