Principles of our Jet Sweep
•
Stretch the field Horizontally with:
–
Multiple Formations
•
–
Pro, Spread, Unbalanced
Motions
•
Consistent and Fast Jet Motion will be
eye-catching.
–
Speed
•
Precision Timing / Mesh
•
Fastest Motion Possible
Principles of our Jet Sweep
•
•
Stress the defense from off-tackle to
alley
Take what the defense gives you
–
Pre-snap alignment
•
How they align may determined where the ball
hits.
–
Red, Yellow, Green Alignment
–
Identify the force player
–
Defensive Movement/Dogs/Blitzes
•
Z-Back must see and react to movement and
Characteristics of our Jet Back
•
Top End Speed
–
Most of the time but not always
–
Usually a track sprinter
•
Great Vision
•
Ability to make the 90° cut
•
Effective Receiving Threat
–
Bubble
–
Vertical Routes
–
Traits of a slot receiver
Blocking is based on a
counting system.
Our Jet Variations
•
•
We’ve replaced the traditional Double
Wing Buck Sweep with Pistol Jet / Jet
Read.
29/27 or 28/26
–
If the Defense focuses on containment with
corner or safety the sweep becomes a 90°
cut in the alley and the reach block becomes
a kick out clock.
•
•
That all happens on the fly.
Jet Read
Our Jet Variations
•
QB Sweep
–
We motion and mesh just like Jet Sweep
•
•
QB Sucker
–
Jet Action with QB inserting to the backside
A-Gap
•
•
The Jet back becomes an extra blocker at the
point of attack.
Sucker alerts the Offensive Linemen to block the
Backside with an Inside Fold Block.
Run/Pass Option
Why use Midline and Trap?
•
•
•
Prefer teaching gap schemes to high
school linemen vs. zone principles.
–
We believe gap rules and techniques are
more effective at this level.
–
Need a premier tailback to run zone
effectively
When paired with Jet Motion you have
three rushing threats around the
football at the snap.
If your Jet Sweep is consistent LB’s tend
Why use Midline and Trap?
•
•
The Midline has a very simple read and
incorporates very simple blocking rules.
The Trap play looks exactly like the
Midline at the mesh point.
–
When dressed up with motions and
unbalanced formations Trap becomes a
“Cheap Counter”
Midline Option
•
•
The Jet motion tends to create a
secondary roll or force the “Stack” LB’s
to take their read steps toward the
motion.
Basic Rules:
–
QB will option first defender on the LOS
outside the Playside Guard’s Nose.
–
TB has the Midlline
•
Crack of the Center
•
Soft Squeeze Mesh
Midline Option
•
Rules Continued
–
QB must carry out the fake or replace the
read with the football
–
Against Odd stack we will Veer block it with
Midline backfield action.
•
–
Adjustment is the QB keeps the midline and
TB’s target is Playside hip of the center.
Backside Linemen are working a Power
Scoop technique
Trap
•
We pair trap and midline because the
playside blocking rules are similar.
–
•
•
Instead of reading the 1st defender on the
LOS outside the guards nose, we kick him
out with the Backside Guard.
Leaving our guards uncovered makes
our trap very dangerous.
Jet Sweep Action takes care of either
backside pursuit or playside alley
defender
Trap
•
Trap Blocking Scheme
–
Double Team Shade or Nose with Center
and Playside Guard to Backside Linebacker
–
Kick appropriate defender with Backside
Guard
–
Playside Tackle Climbs to Middle
Linebacker
–
Backside Tackle “Pull Check” and Climbs.
–
H Back and TE vary depending on
gameplan.
Trap
•
•
•
Backfield Action looks just like Midline
–
Trap Left is a Midline Right Mesh
–
Trap Right is a Midline Left Mesh
QB Trap
–
Great in Spread and Empty Sets
–
Can call to the motion or away from motion
H Trap
–
Another “Cheap Counter” easily
implemented.
