TRAINING TOOLS Featuring: Thinline® Products Back Pain (In The Butt) 2 ¨ ¨ Nothing frustrates horse owners and veterinarians like back pain in horses. Because of the wide variety of causes— as well as the wide variety of clinical signs and therapeutic options—back soreness in horses can be a diagnostic challenge and a treatment dilemma. Some veterinarians say that back pain due to hock lameness, poor saddle fit, and behavioral issues are all myths. Others insist that certain disciplines, rider imbalance, ill-fitting tack, poor conformation, unsatisfactory shoeing, lack of conditioning and even poorly fitting blankets can all lead to soreness in the back, proving just how challenging diagnosis and treatment can be. Be a Fit, Flexible and Balanced Rider- Developing core muscle balance should be a goal for any serious rider. Upper level riders have a well developed set of core stabilizing muscles. This usually comes about through many hours in the saddle with a variety of horses. ¤ In addition to core balance, rider flexibility and suppleness need to be maintained. Incorporating flexibility and strengthening exercises into everyday routines should be a goal of every rider. Saddle Fit- The saddle and its proper placement are key factors in maintaining a healthy back. Enough cannot be said concerning the proper fit of the most important piece of Check out this Horse Holistic “How To equipment, the saddle. Intrepid International Why ThinLine®? 4 ¨ ¨ ¨ ¨ ThinLine® provides a unique tack technology for horses and riders. Their supple, light weight, breathable shock absorbing foam has multiple benefits for horse and rider, including: helping to reduce rider movement, protecting the horses back, and creating a better saddle fit. Thinline® pads increases performance in how horses lift their backs, and riders will sit closer, quieter, and be able to do more with lighter aids. ThinLine® pads are different from other pads because they incorporate a unique, open cell technology that moves shock, weight and heat laterally along the pad without compressing. The result is 90% shock absorption. The trademarked open cell technology also makes ThinLine® horse tack 100% breathable so heat and moisture are not trapped under the saddle and because ThinLine® doesn’t compress or slip, pressure points created by movement or position changes in the saddle are eliminated. Watch the “What is ThinLine®?” video Here Intrepid International ThinLine® Technology 5 q q ThinLine® products utilize open-cell foam technology and foam that enables its products to absorb shock, breathe and never bottom out or squish down. ThinLine’s® honey comb matrix technology allows impact heat and pressure to move like rings of water when you throw a stone into a quiet pond. q q In a saddle pad, the impact of the rider is moved out from under the saddle and never back into the horse’s or riders' spine. Why is open-cell/honey comb matrix technology superior to gel and memory foam/neoprene? q Gel is hot, heavy and when pressure is applied, the gel will move away and leave the area unprotected. q Memory foam and neoprene compresses when pressure or weight are added thus making it inoperable. Once the weight is lifted it expands. To the riding world this means it bottoms out when needed and actually moves the rider away from the horse when released. Intrepid International ThinLine® Benefits (to name a few) 6 ¨ Superior Shock Absorption (protection). ThinLine® is the only product with enough, (90%) shock absorption, to make a measurable difference in protection for horses and riders. ¨ Moves shock laterally, rather back up into the riders spine. ¨ Keep horses and riders backs sound and pain free. ¨ Make horses gaits easier to sit. ¨ Develop better communication between seat and horse. ¨ Custom molding texture, non slip. Creates a custom fit, every time. ¨ Durability and breathability. ¨ Improve and create saddle fit. ¨ ¨ ¨ ¨ Reduction of rider movement, thus reducing lower back flexion for the rider. Easy to clean, antifungal material. ThinLine® is the ONLY saddle pad endorsed by Spinal Surgeon for healthy backs both as a therapy and as a preventative measure. Riders who start young in a ThinLine® have healthier backs as they age. I wanted something to replace my fleece lined boots that would reduce the amount of heat I felt of my horses legs when removing the boots. After using these boots, her legs are half as hot as with the fleece. They also fit like a glove and don't allow any dirt to work it's way in between the skin and boot, so they seem more comfortable for her to wear.. Highly Recommend giving these a try if you are concerned about overheating your horses tendons during training!”-Elle “I bought this half pad after my sheepskin pad was ruined in the wash. I needed one due to a not-soperfectly fitting saddle and decided on this one. It had made such a difference! My 22 year old gelding has very animated gaits and I can easily last much longer sitting his trot with this pad then I was able to before. He moves with a lot more energy then before as well! Ever since I started using this pad, I've been having to hold him back in the canter or gallop. I bought the medium in black to fit my black 17 inch general purpose and dressage saddles, and the fit is great! It also conforms to the horse and saddle during use.”-Peppermint15 Intrepid International More ThinLine® Love 13 “My favorite reins-Rode in these a few times and I can only say WOW. Great feel and communication between horse and ride and the leather is great. My hands never slip with these and they have helped me to become a softer rider!!”-Jumper “I wouldn't ride my mare without this pad! I have a mare with a very sensitive back. She's had the vet/ chiro etc. and her saddle fitter suggested this pad. I've had it for over 4 years, never washed it, and used it for every single ride. At first, I didn't think I would use it in competition because it is black, but there was such a remarkable difference the one time that I didn't use it that I wouldn't ever ride her without it again.”-VTeventgal Intrepid International Ready to Test Your Knowledge? 14 ¨ ¨ ¨ ¨ ¨ ¨ ¨ Simply click on the below link to be redirected to our short quiz.
