11th edition Ferropolis/Germany 18th– 20th July 2008 www.meltfestival.de The extraordinary festival “The star is the festival.” Words often heard when the tenth edition of Melt! was the subject. We’re over the moon. All those unique elements – the breath-taking backdrop of Ferropolis in the midst of Gremmin Lake, the five huge hulking excavators, and the fusion of techno beats, guitar chords, and hip hop breaks – seem to finally have come together in one huge and unforgettable musical experience: two days and two nights of Melt! With its booking far from the standard fare, its unerring feel for the sound of now, and numerous exclusive shows every summer, Melt! has established itself on the European open air landscape. A festival as the star – the audience, the artists, and the music industry itself could have paid us no greater compliment. Contact Melt! Here and now, with thousands of ecstatic people in this magical corner of the world, there’s only one thing you need: great music, transcending all genres. The idea behind Melt! festival is so simple – and so unique. Melt! is an open air festival like no other in Germany. No other event mixes guitars, beatboxes, and vinyl grooves so perfectly; nowhere else do indie boys dance with raver girls while hip hop heads wave their glow-sticks around. And it all happens in the ultimate location: Ferropolis, the City of Iron, near Gräfenhainichen in the heart of a triangle between Leipzig, Dresden, and the cultural metropolis of Berlin just one and a half hours’ drive away. On a peninsula surrounded by Gremmin Lake, five enormous coal mining diggers tower into the sky. At their feet are Melt!’s stages and dance floors, where bands, live acts and DJs fire up the crowd from late afternoon until well into the wee small hours, and the last beats don’t fade until long after the sun has risen over the lake again. Gemini Stage This special location doesn’t really need big names on the bill. Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Mando Diao, or the Scissor Sisters though, all already played well before their breakthroughs to being headliners. The Pet Shop Boys, Kelis, Underworld, The Streets, Aphex Twin: our stages have been graced by illustrious artists over the years as well, and they will always be warmly welcomed – but another headliner is the festival itself. Ultimately, our musically very interested audience – many of whom are happy to travel long distances, with 10 per cent even coming from other European countries – confirms that Melt!’s musical mixture is right on the mark. And we make no compromises here. We’re always onto the hottest new trends. If it’s good, we’ll book it, even if it means taking a risk or two. And that’s how those unique Melt! moments keep happening, when Mouse on Mars, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Booka Shade, and The Horrors all play at the same time – and all four of them to packed floors! But there’s also lots going on behind the scenes. Our professionals’ area has long been an established meeting point for the music industry, and is considered one of the summer’s fixtures by those in the know. The star is the festival itself – and we’ll make sure it shines. PROMOTION Melt! is a festival with media, international value, and strong medial presence.
