Seinfeld writer brings his seasonal comedy, A Kodachrome Christmas,
back to Austin to benefit Austin Police Operation Blue Santa
AUSTIN, TX (October 21, 2014)—Sweetwood Creative delivers an early Christmas present
with the announcement of a limited engagement of A Kodachrome Christmas at Salvage
Vanguard Theater November 28-29, 2014. Written and directed by Seinfeld writer, Pat Hazell,
and starring Austin actor, Jay Byrd, A Kodachrome Christmas will transfer to The Alden
Theatre in the Washington DC area after the Thanksgiving run here in Austin.
Sweetwood Creative, the show’s Producers, will donate a portion of all ticket sales to Austin
Police Operation Blue Santa, a non-profit, community based corporation that provides full
holiday meals and Christmas presents to Austin families in need. Patrons will have the
opportunity to meet and take photos with Blue Santa in the lobby before each performance,
and donations of new, unwrapped toys will also be accepted.
A Kodachrome Christmas is a one-person-show about Earlene Hoople, a cable access tv show
hostess who is taping her Christmas special in front of a live audience. The self-proclaimed
“Queen of Rural Media” judges the kookiest craft contest, answers letters to Mrs. Claus,
decorates her signature Christmas cookies, presents the family slide show and conducts the
holiday hand bell choir. This interactive show promises to be a hilarious and heartwarming way
to jumpstart the season with friends and family.
The show is a follow-up to Pat Hazell’s critically acclaimed The Wonder Bread Years, which
aired on PBS and is produced across the country. Showtime declared Hazell one of the five
funniest people in America. He was one of the original writers for NBC's Seinfeld, a Tonight
Show veteran, and a contributing commentator to National Public Radio. Hazell currently lives
in Austin and is Chief Creative Officer of Sweetwood Creative.
This production marks the second time A Kodachrome Christmas has been produced in Austin,
after a successful two-week run at The Long Center in 2010. “I’m thrilled to bring Kodachrome
back to Austin and introduce multi-talented Austin artist, Jay Byrd, as the new Earlene Hoople”
says writer/director, Pat Hazell. “I’m also pleased to help serve our community by partnering
with Austin Police Operation Blue Santa.”
Performances are Friday, November 28 at 8pm and Saturday, November 29 at 3pm and 8pm
at Salvage Vanguard Theater (2803 E. Manor Road, Austin, TX 78722). Tickets are on sale
now and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling (800) 838-3006.
