casual, chic, 5-star luxury hotel opened this past April 2012, and Grace’s
Distinctive Properties was right there to make sure that this gem was part of the
Grace’s Distinctive Properties “Italian Hotel Collection.”
The Hotel Palazzo Victoria truly offers the contemplation of real luxury in
Verona. Restored from the 14th Century, this hotel has been part of the Verona
landscape for many years. Formerly a palace, it features original artwork, frescoes,
interior architecture and design from its Medieval history. Recently renovated to
display its original beauty, the Palazzo remains a historic site.
All of the 70 rooms reflect the Roman heritage of the city of Verona, fused with
the interior design of centuries past. The hotel’s open, modern and spacious floor
plan includes a full spa and restaurant so guests can enjoy all modern amenities.

he Hotel Royal Victoria of Varenna is a four-star hotel, facing Lake Como, situated
in the historic center of Varenna. Once a spinnery, it was bought by Mrs. Giuseppina
Pezzini who transformed it into a hotel and called it “Hotel Royal.” The “Hotel
Royal,” in the most famous part of the Lecco branch of Lake Como, provided hospitality to many famous people. In 1838 the Queen of England stayed here, and it
was in her honor that the hotel changed its name to “Hotel Royal Victoria.”
The recent restoration works have preserved its 19th century style, while offering
all the modern amenities in a luxury hotel. The Restaurant Gourmet, with a
charming veranda overlooking the little town of Bellagio, can be reached also by
boat, thanks to a private wharf. The swimming pool in the garden is the perfect

D
uring the building of Florence’s Cathedral (13001400), most of the houses in the area of the Piazza del
Duomo were demolished with the exception of those
at the north-eastern corner of the newly created square.
Some of the latter were located where Palazzo Niccolini al
Duomo was subsequently erected. These buildings hosted
the workshops of some of the most celebrated Florentine
artists. Among them was the famous sculptor Donatello,
who is commemorated by a bust and an inscription on the
facade of the Palazzo looking on the Cathedral.
The Palazzo was originally built by the Naldinis, an
important family of Florentine merchants and bankers.
It remained in the Naldini family until 1891, when the
last descendant, Cristina, married Marchese Eugenio
