Leader Training Success! From a volunteer who recently attended the full six-hour Volunteer Leader Training: “I just wanted to thank you for the leader training session. Tonight, we had our first general meeting since I attended the training session. We have a great club, with a great group of kids and parents, but our meetings have been mostly an hour long business meeting. The kids have never had much of a chance to get to know each other, and dreaded the monthly meetings. Tonight, we changed things up... We took some of the formality out of the business part of the meeting, and we were able to cut it down to 19 minutes. (Still need to work on that, but it is a start.) After the meeting, we had a (paper) snowball fight. Each child made two snowballs. One had their favorite thing about 4-H and the other their least favorite thing about 4-H, respectfully said. The kids were all open and honest, and as a leader, it was encouraging to see ALL of the kids engaged. We talked about what they liked and how to improve on what they didn't like to make our club better. We ended the meeting with cupcakes and happy kids. Our president told me it was the best meeting ever! She felt that by making the meeting less formal, she felt like she was able to be herself… By making a few simple changes, we ended our club meeting with parents having to urge their kids to leave, and with kids excited for the next meeting. SUCCESS! Again, thank you!” Volunteer Leader Training (VLT) Continues! 4-H teens and adults are welcome! VLT Parts I, II & III will be offered Thursday, April 7, 14 & 28 6:30-8:30PM, at the County Transportation Building (Akers Building) 3275 Akers Drive, training room East.
