Ryohei Koiso is widely respected as a significant, modern Japanese painter. Born in Kobe, he considered his birthplace as the basis of his paintings. Many of the masterpieces, 2500 paintings in all, are housed in this museum. There are three exhibition rooms along with Koiso’s recreated atelier in the courtyard, where the bright sunlight shines in through the windows. Hakuturu Sake Brewery Museum The brewery’s wooden facility, built in the Taisyo period (1912-1926), displays tools used in making sake and describes the traditional-sake making method. You can taste fresh sake for free! Himeji Castle Arima Hotsprings Himeji castle was registered as the world cultural heritage along with Horyuji Temple in Kyoto by UNESCO in December, 1993. It has a history of 400 years. Arima is the oldest hot spring resort in Japan, boasting a history of 1300 years. The often-called “ten-million-dollar night view” is absolutely stellar. 90min 55min Suma Sightseeing Temple Kyoto This temple is the head temple of Sumadera branch of the Singon school of Buddhism, and was built in 886. The statues of Taira-no-Atsumori (Heike clan warrior) and Kumagai Jiro Naozane (Genji clan warrior) are in the Genpei garden in the temple grounds. Kubizuka of Atsumori and other historical monuments can be found to pique your interests. *Kubizuka: a mound beneath which the head of a beheaded warrior rests. Kyoto was the capital of Japan for over one thousand years since the Emperor Kammu established it as the capital called “Heian-kyo”, from 794 until 1868, the period of Meiji Restoration.
