DILLIDUR 450 V is successfully applied where elevated resistance to wear is required together with good workability and especially good weldability. Examples of application: earth moving and loading machines, dredgers, skip cars, conveying plants, trucks, cutting edges, knives and breakers, waste elimination and recycling plants. Product description Range of application The production range of the DILLIDUR 450 V plates is 8 mm (1/3 in.) to 100 mm (4 in.), please see delivery program. It may be possible to supply other sizes on request. Identification The marking bears at least: • the manufacturer´s brand. • the steel designation (DILLIDUR 450 V) • the heat number • the rolled plate number Additionnally the plates are provided with the inscription DILLIDUR 450 V. Workability The entire fabrication and application techniques are of fundamental importance to the reliability of products manufactured with these steels. The fabricator should ensure that the methods of calculation, design and manufacture comply with the properties of the material, the state of the technical development and the intended application. The customer is responsible for the selection of the material. The manufacturing recommendations of the Stahl-EisenWerkstoffblatt 088 or of the EN 1011 standard should be applied analogously while considering the higher strength and hardenability. Cold forming In spite of its high degree of hardness the steel can be cold formed. It should be payed attention to the fact that with increasing yield strength the required forces for the forming operation also grow even if the plate thickness remains unchanged. The backspring increases too. Grinding of the flame cut or sheared edges in the bending area is recommended to avoid cut crack initiation. The cold forming operations should be carried out under consideration of the following recommandations (where t is the plate thickness): Minimum bending radius Minimum die opening t £ 25 mm t > 25 mm t £ 25 mm t > 25 mm Transverse direction 5t 6t 10 t 12 t Longitudinal direction 6t 7t 12 t 14 t Hot forming The steel obtains its hardness by accelerated cooling from the austenitizing temperature. After hot forming the same hardness is only obtained if the steel is quenched again after forming. It has to be expected, that the hardness achieved through such a treatment differs from that measured in the delivery condition because the cooling capacity available during production of the plate differs from that available in the fabricator's works. The steel can be heated to about 200°C (390°F) without any substantial drop in hardness (250 °C for short period). DILLIDUR 450 V Flame cutting and welding For flame cutting, the following minimum preheating temperatures should be observed: 75 °C (170 °F) for plate thicknesses from 25 up to 70 mm and 125°C (260 °F) for thicker plates. For manual arc welding basic coated rods, having a very low residual moisture should be used (if necessary, drying according to the instruction of the manufacturer should be carried out). Additionally the following recommendations are to be considered: • • Generally up to a thickness of 15 mm (0.6 in.) the steel can be butt welded without preheating. In order to eliminate the risk of cracking in the welded joint, in cases of high rigidity of structure a preheating temperature of 140 °C - 190 (285 - 375 °F) is generally recommended for thicknesses > 15 mm (0.6 in.). A preheating over 200 °C (390°F) must be avoided, because it would bring a decrease of the hardness (see diagram). Weld fillers should be as soft as loading conditions of the construction and wear and tear of the weld allow it. Heat treatment The following diagram shows the general change in hardness or strength values in accordance with the heat treatment temperature: 1600 Hardness [HBW] resp. Rm / Rp 0,2 [N/mm²] Typical values for 20 mm plate thickness Tensile strength 1400 1200 Yield strength 1000 800 600 Hardness 400 200 0 0 100 200 300 400 500 600 Tempering temperature [°C] Allowance should be made of the fact that the toughness of the steel at room temperature can be decreased by a heat treatment at 300 – 400 °C (570 – 750 °F). Machining DILLIDUR 450 V can be machined with HSS-drills and especially with HSS-Co-alloyed drills with a satisfactory service life if the drill advance and cutting speed are correspondingly accomodated. General technical delivery requirements Unless otherwise agreed, the general technical requirements in accordance with EN 10021 are applicable. Tolerances Unless otherwise agreed, the tolerances are in accordance with EN 10029, with class A for thickness. Surface quality Unless otherwise agreed, the provisions in accordance with EN 10163 are applicable. The steel has a fine-grained microstructure. Nitrogen is absorbed to form nitrides by means of Al and, where applicable, Nb or Ti.
