The History of MEEE Proceeds from these events help Manna House Workshops provide affordable arts education to our community. We hope you’ll take advantage of our programs: The Manna House MEEE (Music for Entertainment, Education, and Enlightenment) Jazz Concert Series began in 1980. It provides a stage and audience for seasoned and emerging professional minority musicians and composers of Jazz and contemporary American music. Private lessons in piano, voice, guitar, bass, cello, violin, drums, woodwinds taught to all ages by professional instructors. Group classes for youth in dance, drama, jazz ensemble, and chorus; classes for adults in sight singing, music theory, and more. This series is held every first Sunday from February to June. Proceeds from the concert series help provide music lessons at Manna House for economically disadvantaged families in the New York City area. In this concert he will share classic and contemporary Jazz with us. The Tones June 7 Ricardo Strobert delivers a variety of musical selections from the R&B, Calypso, Ragtime, Bebop and Jazz genre. This amazing group comprises a 13 year old pianist, a 17 year old bass guitarist both of whom are Ricardo’s sons. Ricardo has recorded and toured nationally and internationally with Roy Haynes, Maceo Parker, Roy Campbell and the late Hilton Rios. Larry Williams on the drums joins the group to provide a slammin’ afternoon. Join us and enjoy our family cocktails as we kick-off our 2009 concert series! Jazzmobile & Manna House Vocal group, The Tones is lead and directed by guitarist, composer and arranger Andrei Carriere who has worked and toured with a host of artists that include Arlene Smith’s Chantels, Chuck Jackson, Ester Phillips, Webster Lewis and Marlena Shaw and the Sussex recording artists, Creative Source.. The Tones originated out of Manna House and was inspired by Executive Director and voice instructor, Gloria DeNard to provide a per formance ensemble for adult vocal students. Over the years, The Tones have performed at recitals, outdoor events, concert halls special events and are showcased regularly on the MNN Cable Show “The Best Kept Secret.” Members of the group include Andrei Carriere, Jeannine Carter who performs regularly at private and corporate events and Brenda Fair who performs as a background vocalist with the Doo-Wop legend Arlene Smith the original lead vocalist of the Chantels and as a solo artist throughout the New York City area. Don’t miss this exciting close of our concert series! Robert Silverman Trio March 1 Pianist, trumpeter, educator and composer shares his piano prowess and vocal talents with us in the Manna Mini Theatre. This renowned Jazz artist has toured Europe with Jimmy Heath, Cecil McBee and others. As a composer Mr. Silverman has received two awards from Meet the Composer. He has recorded two CDs one featuring original piano solos and the other trio compositions. He has performed at Birdland, the National Gallery in Washington DC, the Savoy Lounge and other venues. Mr. Silverman enjoys sharing Jazz history and music in the public schools. Senior citizens thrill on hearing the old time presents a special concert April 5 Enjoy our Family Cocktails During Intermission Youssef Rakha May 3 Mr. Rakha holds many degrees including a Masters in Education from Cambridge College. A composer and arranger who has written for film, Off Broadway shows, cabaret acts and arranged for big bands, Latin Bands and Chamber Works. Mr. Rakha has recorded, performed and traveled worldwide with Sam Wooding’s, Duke Ellington’s, Cab Calloway’s and Danny Holgate’s orchestras. On the Latin scene, Mr. Rakha has worked with Ismael Rivera, “Machito,” Carlos “Patato” Valdez and Latin orchestras. These days Mr. Rakha devotes most of his time performing and writing for his own groups that run the gamut from Jazz, Latin Jazz, Chamber, and Orchestral music. A must attend event!
