PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Parent Information Evenings
Thank you to everyone for attending the recent Parent Information
sessions. It was great to see so many of the sessions so well attended. If
you were unable to attend and would like to find out more about your
child’s class please make an appointment to see the teacher.
At the end of this term we will be holding Parent-Teacher Meetings
where teachers and parents can discuss the progress of your child so far
this year and the educational plans for the remainder of the year.
If, however, you have concerns or issues please don’t hesitate to contact
your child’s teacher so that an interview can be set up at a mutually
convenient time.
At Seven Hills West, we believe the comfort and wellbeing of our
students is of utmost importance. When a case of head lice is found, we
will let parents know so that they can choose to start treatment
immediately or when the child comes home in the afternoon. Students
are not excluded from school because of head lice but by
contacting parents, they then have the choice to collect their child
straight away if suitable or wait until school finishes for the day.
Unfortunately eradicating head lice is not realistic but identifying and
managing infestations is essential. It is important that families are vigilant
in dealing with head lice as soon as it is detected and have solutions
in the home that assist in managing the problem. A safe, effective and
simple method of removing head lice that can be used regularly will
make the management of infestations easier. This could involve keeping
a good quality nit comb in the shower and training children to use it
every time they wash their hair, even if their heads are not itchy.

And something to think about …
Zone Swimming Carnival
Good luck to our swimmers who will be competing at the Zone
Swimming Carnival tomorrow. At this carnival students will compete
against children from the local primary schools, all vying for selection to
the Sydney West Swimming Carnival next month. Thank you, too, to
Mrs Myers, Miss Price and Mrs Spora who will be accompanying the
students to this special event and cheering them on, on behalf of our
whole school.
Head Lice
Over the course of the school year, teachers and parents alert us to
cases of head lice in our classes and it is one of the most commonly
reported health complaints in primary schools. While head lice are not
known to carry disease, they are a nuisance for parents and children.
Head lice infestation can affect children’s comfort and ability to learn in
the classroom and unsuccessful treatments or frequent infestations can
frustrate parents.

PERMISSION NOTES & PAYMENTS
As you are aware, we have made a minor change to how we collect money for annual school
incursions/excursions.
By now, you should have received an invoice for $45 per child, covering the annual incursions
that occur at Seven Hills West PS (NAIDOC day and Book Week - $5 each) plus our compulsory
Athletics Carnival ($10) which will be held at Charli Bali Oval, requiring hiring of the facility and
bus fare, together with a Curriculum Levy of $25 to assist us in providing resources for our
literacy and numeracy programs.
When the events detailed on the invoice occur, only families who have paid the invoiced
amount will receive permission notes to complete and return prior to the event.
Children who do not pay this invoice in advance, will not be able to participate in the event.
Late payment cannot be accepted, as the organisation required for these activities takes time.
There may be additional incursions/excursions during the year, and for these, notes will be
sent out requesting permission and payment.
Please be aware all permission notes will have a ‘due’ date – no extensions to payment will
be made, due to the organisation required to enable incursions/excursions to go ahead.
Additionally, notes will be handed to your child for completion, however, should the note be
lost or misplaced, you will need to download the note from our website and complete and
return to the office prior to the due date.
We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
The SHWPS Team
NRL Community Carnival
On Tuesday 16th February, Seven Hills West was host to Cody Nelson and Tyrell Fuimaono, two players from the
Parramatta Eels as part of the NRL Community Carnival Blitz.
Now in its 15th year the Community Carnival sees NRL Ambassadors and players from all 16 Clubs visit 250,000
primary schools in local and regional communities throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The community message for this year’s event is wellbeing. Students at Seven Hills West had fun participating in
trivia activities that focused on nutrition and healthy eating and the importance of regular exercise and its effect
on mental health.
They should be commended on how well they displayed our School Expectations during the assembly.

Zone Team Trials
Over the past two weeks, many students, aged 11-12yrs have been selected to trial for the Seven
Hills/Wentworthville Zone Sports Teams.
To represent our Zone, students are given the opportunity to trial for a sports team in our area and, if selected,
participate in the Sydney West Trial Carnival. They had the opportunity to be selected in the following sportsnetball, football, soccer, cricket, touch football, AFL, softball and basketball.
Students at these trials are comprised of schools within the Seven Hills/Wentworthville schools who compete in
these sports on weekends at high levels. At the selections there were lots of students competing to be selected in
the Zone Teams. Selections were difficult with so many talented students.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected in the team sports to represent Seven
Hills/Wentworthville and our school:
Jeremy Udochukwu (5/6P)- Boys Soccer
Sione Fua (5/6W)- Boys Basketball
Daniel Alauni (3/6E)- Opens Boys Rugby League
Kane McKinley (5/6W)- Opens Boys Rugby League
Taulanga Tukuafu (5/6P)- 11yrs Boys Rugby League
Seven Hills West are extremely proud of these talented athletes and we wish them luck in their upcoming
carnival. We are sure they will represent our zone and school with respect, pride and great sportsmanship.
Teachers from Seven Hills West PS will also be representing our school and Zone at these carnivals. Mrs
Shannon Barber is the Girls Touch Football Coach and Mrs Lauren Myers is the Girls Netball Coach.
It is fantastic to see so many students and teachers being involved in our school community through sport.

P & C Committee
CHANGE OF CLOTHES
Children in Kindergarten to Year 2, can, on occasion, have an ‘accident’ by
forgetting to go to the toilet at break time, or not advising the teacher that they
need to go to the toilet.
This then results in children ‘wetting’ themselves and coming to the office for a
spare change of clothes.
Our supplies are extremely low – so we ask that each parent with children in
Kindergarten to Year 2 supply a change of clothing in their child’s bag in case of
emergencies.
We thank you for your support in this matter.
