HYPNO AR Manual Text
1. When you receive your tent, inspect the box for
damage. Do not use a knife or sharp object to open the
box, as you may slice the tent.
2. Layout the contents of your shipment and make sure
that you received your tent and the following items: stuff
sack, replacement bladder with black fitting, stakes, Silnet,
Seamgrip, 2 nozzles, and repair kit. Also confirm that you
received any optional items you may have ordered
including: Nemoid™ foot pump, Integrated Pump, t-shirts
or accessories.
3. Hypno AR comes with two types of seam sealer. Seam
sealing adds strength and waterproofness to the tent and
is also useful for making repairs. Use the Silnet for the
EPIC and sil-nylon fabric shell of the tent. Use the
Seamgrip for the airbeams and tent floor. Allow to dry
overnight. Note that both seam sealers can stick to
themselves even after curing, so it is best to lightly dust
fully cured areas with talcum powder. Please visit
www.mcnett.com for more information.
4. When packing your backpack, keep the denser objects
close to your body and near your shoulders. Don’t forget
to bring your NEMO pumps along!
5. Hypno AR is designed for lightweight travel, be it
lightweight backpacking or adventure racing. If you are an
adventure
racer,
you
should
visit
www.nemoequipment.com to see the latest news about
NEMO sponsored teams or inquire about sponsorship.
6. And they’re off!
7. With all that adrenaline, it’s hard not to start out running,
even with 300 miles to go!!
8. Choose your campsite carefully. Avoid areas with
uneven ground, under trees or near tall objects which may
attract lightning, near open flames or smoldering
campfires, or areas of fragile vegetation. Also consider the
direction of the sun and wind.
9. NEMO AST™ tents are easy to setup at night because
they are all one piece. Just be sure to keep track of your
stakes and other accessories.
10. Begin the setup of your tent by staking it out. This way
you have the option of inflating the tent from the inside.
11. Be sure the deflation cap is clean and screwed on
tightly before inflating the tent. Make a quick visual check
that the airlines and airbeams are laid out without any
major kinks or twists.
12. Connect the pump to the inflation valve on the Valve
Interface. If using the Nemoid™ foot pump, be sure the
red intake valve on the pump is open. If using the
Integrated Pump, be sure the valve on top of the pump is
closed.
13. When properly connected, the CPC quick-disconnect fittings
will make an audible click.
14. Step on the Nemoid™ foot pump to inflate the tent. Allow a
short time between steps for the pump to refill with air. Do not
use the foot pump on top of sharp objects. Inflating Burrito takes
as little as 15 seconds with the Nemoid™ pump.
15. NEMO AirSupported™ tents are designed to be very strong
between 5 and 7 psi. You have achieved adequate pressure
when it becomes difficult to pinch the airbeam together with
your fingers. Do not over-inflate! The airbeams are designed to
tolerate pressures up to 25 psi in case an increase in air
temperature causes the air inside the airbeam to expand. To be
safe, if you setup your tent in cold weather and the temperature
increases significantly, release some air to keep the pressure
between 5 and 7 psi. Failure to do this in the case of extreme
temperature changes can cause the airbeams to explode!
16. To pack the Nemoid™ pump, first close the red intake valve
and then squeeze the pump. This will squeeze the air out of the
pump, making it very compact for carrying. Simply toss the
pump into the mesh pocket of the stuff sack with the tent, or into
your backpack or pannier. Do not leave the foot pump
compressed for more than a few days or it may not return to its
original shape.
17. Hypno AR is designed to fit 2 people very comfortably or up
to 4 people during an adventure race. Of course it’s a little tight
for 4, but you won’t care if you haven’t slept for two days!
18. The side vents on Hypno AR can be rolled up or closed
from inside the tent through the vent access zipper. If you want
to keep the vent closed during high winds, clip both the vent
and the tent side wall to the guyout.
19. With the side vents rolled up and the Storm Door open or
just the vent deployed, Hypno AR has good air circulation and
affords a nice view of the sky.
20. To take the tent down, begin by unscrewing the deflation
valve. Unscrew the cap slowly to allow the pressure to decrease
before the cap is released.
21. Roll the tent along the airbeams to squeeze out all the air.
22. Pack the tent into Hypno AR’s Racing Stuff Sack, roll the
dry closure top and clip the sides to make it watertight.
23. The racing stuff sack is watertight so your tent stays dry and
light as you endure rough weather and varying terrain.
24. Be alert for signs of changing weather. Stop in time to find a
campsite away from possible flooding and other risks.
25. Begin the setup of your tent by staking it out. This way you
have the option of inflating the tent from the inside. This is a
unique advantage of NEMO AirSupported™ tents! If it’s raining,
remember to close all zippers, including the Pump Pocket!
26. Hypno AR features a NEMO’s own Storm Door front entry.
The bottom of the tent door has a horizontal zipper with an
4/7
overlapping door sill that allows you to enter and exit your
tent in harsh weather without letting rain inside.
27. Once inside the tent, remove the Integrated Pump
from the Pump Pocket and open the outside zipper. Reach
through the Pump Pocket to connect the Integrated Pump
to the Valve Interface.
28. Hypno inflates in as little as 1 minute with the
Integrated Pump.
29. To use the Integrated Pump, first make sure the valve
on top of the pump is closed, then blow into the pump and
squeeze it with your hand or under your foot. Repeat this
sequence, being sure to frequently inhale! With practice,
this becomes quite effortless. Be careful not to get lightheaded!
30. When you are finished, disconnect the pump and open
the valve to allow the inside of the pump to dry out.
Remember to put the pump back in the Pump Pocket for
next time. Also, don’t forget to close the Pump Pocket
zipper!
31. The incredible ease of setting up Hypno AR means
you have more time to enjoy some rest!
32. The selection of fabrics in Hypno AR not only
increases its performance, but also provides a beautiful
play of light in the morning sunshine. With good quality
rest, you’ll be able to get a jump on everyone else.
33. Since deflation takes only a few seconds, you won’t
loose any time getting back on the trail.
34. Adventure racing is about endurance, perseverance
and skill. Don’t forget to stay hydrated, well-fed and take
care to avoid unnecessary risks.
35. Part of adventure racing is the beautiful vistas and
dramatic scenes. Whether you’re racing or backpacking,
remember to appreciate and show respect for your
surroundings.
36. Thanks to the dedication and perseverance of Team
NEMO, combined with all the time saved by using the
beautiful Hypno AR tent, the team wins again!
37. When the rain stops, it’s a good idea to air out your
tent before packing it away. This will save weight and
reduce the likelihood of mildew. Try to clean as much dirt
and debris from your tent as possible before packing it.
This will help preserve the breathability of the tent fabrics
and reduce wear and tear. Always cook away from the
tent!
38. The same qualities that make Hypno a great tent for
adventure racing make it terrific for lightweight
backpacking. It sleeps 2 very comfortably with minimal
weight, great ventilation and a cozy interior. It’s a
gorgeous and very unique little tent!
Repair Sequence:
R1. NEMO AirSupported™ tents are designed to
withstand all the usual rigors of backpacking and camping.
We worked hard to select materials with the right balance of
being lightweight and durable. If you take reasonable care of
your tent, you should never have a problem. But, accidents do
happen! If you have a puncture, the next few steps will allow
you how to swap in a new bladder and repair the damaged one
to keep as a spare. The whole process should only take a few
minutes. Please read all the steps first before beginning.
R2. Every airbeam has multiple Bladder Access Pockets. Never
open the access pockets when the airbeam is inflated! The
bladder inside is only meant to be airtight. If it is not supported
by the airbeam outer shell it will expand and pop. First
disconnect the quick-disconnect fitting on the airbeam and then
open the access pockets.
R3. If the puncture is close to a Bladder Access Pocket, you
can simply patch the bladder with the included Tear-Aid patch
kit. Otherwise, simply tie a new bladder to the one inside the
airbeam and pull the old one out from the opposite side,
dragging the new one into place. It is best to stake down one
side of the airbeam or have someone hold it while you pull the
bladder through. It is very important to insert the bladder without
any twists. It helps to lay the new bladder flat on the ground
pointing towards the access pocket with the valve oriented the
right direction.
R4. Any twists in the bladder will result in obvious un-inflated
portions of the airbeam when you re-inflate the airbeam. These
will require repeating this entire process, so it is best to take
your time and be sure the bladder is fed into the tent with the
valve oriented in the right direction and without any twists. Also
be sure that the bladder goes all the way to the bottom of the
airbeam on both ends. Remember that the bladder requires the
airbeam shell to prevent it from expanding and popping!
R5. Once the new bladder is in place, secure the Bladder
Access Pockets and connect the quick-disconnect fitting. If the
bladder is installed correctly, the fitting should be facing towards
the round hole. If you need to twist the bladder to insert the
fitting through the airbeam shell, you will need to reverse this
process and try inserting the bladder again. Remember, no
twists!
R6. After reconnecting the bladder, inflate the tent and inspect
the airbeam. If the bladder is installed properly, the entire
airbeam will inflate evenly and firmly from end-to-end. If there
are any twists, a section of the airbeam will not inflate and
become firm. If this happens, you will need to tie the old bladder
onto the new one and reverse and repeat the process.
R7. Repairing small holes in a NEMO bladder is simple. If
necessary, inflate the bladder underwater to locate the
puncture. Once you locate the puncture, make sure the area is
dry and clean and cover the hole with a generous piece of the
self-adhesive patch included in your repair kit. If the damage is
larger than 1/8” in length or diameter, the repair may not be
reliable. Replacement bladders are available from your NEMO
retailer or from www.nemoequipment.com.
R8. Keep the repaired bladder as a spare in a plastic bag in
your stuff sack accessory pocket. It is important to keep the
bladder dry and clean so that it is ready for future use. Take
care not to damage the CPC quick-disconnect fitting or allow it
to get dirty.

Troubleshooting and getting the most from your NEMO tent
1. I want my tent to last forever, what do I need to do?
Always take care where you setup your tent. Avoid rough ground, especially rocks and pavement. Before packing
the tent, make sure it is clean and dry. Store the tent unpacked to allow air circulation. Occasionally inspect the
tent for wear and tear, including all of the CPC quick-disconnect fittings. If you find a damaged o-ring on a fitting,
replace it with one from your repair kit. Don’t store the tent exposed to UV light.
2. I pumped up the tent and it wouldn’t hold air!
The most common problem is not having the deflation valve clean and screwed tightly. Make sure the cap is
clean, screw it on tightly and listen for any leaks. If the threads or inside rim of the deflation valve have been
damaged, a small amount of the silicone grease included in the repair kit should fix the problem. Be aware that
the grease attracts dirt!
If the problem is not with the deflation valve and you can’t locate the leak by listening, than try the following
procedure: 1) Disconnect the left airbeam and inflate the tent. 2) If the tent holds air, the left airbeam must be
damaged. If the tent doesn’t hold air, the right airbeam must be damaged. 3) Replace the damaged bladder with
one of your spares. 4) At your first opportunity, submerge the bladder in water to locate the puncture. If possible,
fix the puncture with your repair kit and keep it as a spare.
It is also possible that your Valve Interface™ or airlines have been damaged. If the above procedure doesn’t help,
try disconnecting both airbeams and inflating. The Valve Interface™ (peanut shaped thing behind the inflation and
deflation valves inside the tent) should hold the air pressure. If it does not, inspect it and all the lines carefully and
listen for leaks or submerge parts of the airlines in water while inflating. If you can’t locate the leak, it may be
necessary to send the tent in for repair.
3. I woke up in a puddle!
Be sure all the zippers are closed tightly. The most common problem is forgetting to close the Pump Pocket
zipper. Have you seam sealed your tent? In all but the most severe storms, the tent will keep the water out
without the seam sealer, but seam sealing makes the tent stronger and more watertight. Also check the floor and
tent shell for damage.
After repeated use, you may need to replenish the Durable Water Repellent finish on the tent fabrics. This is true
when water no longer beads-up on the fabrics. DWR is available from most outdoor specialty shops.
4. I pitched my tent on top of a prickly pear cactus!
Hopefully you didn’t lay down on the cactus too! Carefully remove all of the spines before patching or replacing
the bladder(s). If you pack the tent with spines or sharp objects inside, they could damage the remaining
airbeams. The good news is that such small holes patch very easily and effectively. Follow the instructions in the
repair section above.
5. My tent has a mildew smell.
Always pack and store your tent dry! Mildew is not only smelly and bad for the tent materials, it is also unhealthy.
Contact Rainy Pass Repair (see below) for advice about safely removing mildew.
