Dear
Parents
Caregivers,
and
I hope everyone had a
great weekend and
sincerely acknowledged
the amazing Mum’s in
their lives (as we should
every day). Keryn and I
took the boys to Port
Vincent for the weekend and even with the
numerous toddler meltdowns we had a great
time together as a family.
Welcome to Week 2 and another term full of
excellent activities and learning. In this
newsletter we have included a term planner of
most events and have placed a copy in the
front office to keep everyone well informed.
ANZAC DAY
In the school holidays our two School
Captains, Elisa and Vaine, presented a wreath
on behalf of the school at the ANZAC Day
service held at the Waikerie Memorial
LOXTON & WAIKERIE PARTNERSHIP
REVIEW
Last Thursday I attended the annual
Partnership Review Meeting at The Berri
Resort Hotel. All leaders from the Loxton &
Waikerie Partnership met with a panel from
The Department of Education and Child
Development (DECD), which included the
State’s Chief Educator-Jayne Johnson. The
DECD panel presented the Loxton & Waikerie
Partnership’s student’s results in Literacy
(Reading), Numeracy and Attendance in 2015.
Specific sites were asked questions about
their data, including where our outcomes are
improving, static or declining. We discussed
whether we can determine why these changes
are or aren’t taking place and identified where
we need to do things differently to deliver
better outcomes for children and students.
OUR SCHOOL VALUES ARE:
HONESTY | RESPECT | RESILIENCE | RESPONSIBILITY
The process was a very useful one and gave
us good insight for our future directions.
NAPLAN
This Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the
Year 3, 5 and 7 cohorts will participate in the
National Literacy and Numeracy tests. While
these tests give us a snapshot of where
students are in terms of reading, writing,
spelling, grammar and numeracy, they are not
our only guide to student progress. Any
parents concerned about their child’s learning
should contact their child’s teacher.
The tests also give us a school wide view and
perspective of how we are travelling and in
particular we can pick up learning trends and
gaps on a whole school basis – hence the
need for all students to complete the tests.
NEW STUDENT
This term we welcome Daniel (Year 1) and his
family to our school and Mrs Duffield’s class.
We wish you all the very best for the year
ahead and have already enjoyed the positive
interaction you have made in the class.
Finally, if you didn’t catch Noni Hazlehurst’s
Logie Hall of Fame Speech, as a parent I
found her pitch on ‘ideal parenting’ quite
inspiring;
‘The ideal mother and father is someone who
nurtures us and protects us, who tells stories
to help make sense of the world, who gives us
non-judgemental
acceptance
and
unconditional love, who teaches us that we’re
not special but we are unique, who
encourages our empathetic instincts and
teaches us the responsibility we have to each
other’
This is something I would encourage all
parents to aspire to.
PCW News
Hi Everyone,
I really hope you all had a
great holiday break.
Personally I thought it went
way to fast but in saying that
it’s great to be back into the
swing of Term 2.
Once again this term I will be
including some Kids Matter information sheets
with each school newsletter. I hope that you
find them helpful and as always if you have
any further questions on a topic please feel
free to seek me out for more information. I
don’t always know the information personally
but part of my role is to find information and
resources that I can then pass onto you.
This week I have attached a fact sheet called
‘Learning to value others’.
You can come in and see me on Tuesday
9.00am - 3.30pm, Wednesday 9.00am 3.30pm or ring the school and leave me a
message at the front desk.
PLEASE NOTE: BREAKFAST CLUB WILL BE
ON TUESDAY INSTEAD OF WEDNESDAY
IN WEEKS 3 & 4. Every other week it will be
on Wednesday this school term.
Hope you have a fantastic week.
Erin

RAMCO SPORTS DAY, FRIDAY, 25th MAY, SCHOOL OVAL
STARTING AT 8.50AM
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Our School Sports Day is on Friday 27th May. For the successful running of our Sports Day we require helpers to help
out on the day. For most of the events teachers will ask for helpers from the spectators at each event as needed. So if
you are following your child, please take a turn if asked – your help will certainly be appreciated. However you will
notice that we would still like to have the sprints and hurdles helpers pre-organised. This year all of the sprints will be
held in the afternoon. The Sports Day program will be sent home closer to the day.

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 20 MAY 2016
Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!
Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to
incorporate more
walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to
school isn’t
realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily
routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
- Walking with them the whole way to school
- If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
- If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the
way.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like
obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great
opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.
Remember, Active Kids are Smarter Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for
Friday 20 May 2016!

Relevant History Screening - School newsletter article
Many of our parents and guardians volunteer at our school to support their child’s learning.
To make it easier for parents and guardians to volunteer their time, the Department for Education and Child
Development has updated its relevant history screening policy and procedures.
As a result, parents and guardians who volunteer to directly support their child will no longer require a
relevant history screening.
This will mean many of our volunteers can help out sooner.
A screening is still necessary for parents and guardians who are volunteering at school camps and sleep
overs, as well as those hosting billets and homestay students.
As has always been the case, a screening is not needed to attend single events or activities at our school.
These include concerts, fundraisers, swimming week or sports day.
Screenings are just one measure used to help keep children safe. Everyone who works with children plays a
part in child protection, including watching out for inappropriate behaviour.
Find out more about relevant history screening and keeping children safe at www.decd.sa.gov.au.
If you have any questions about screening or these changes, please speak with school staff.
Bring in your old
toothbrushes
Ms Duffield’s R/1 Class is
collecting used toothbrushes,
empty toothpaste containers
and other items. They will be
sent to be recycled. There is a
collection box in the R/1
classroom or items can be
dropped off to the front office.
2nd Hand Uniforms
For a gold coin
donation, we have a
few second hand
jumpers and polo shirts
available, mostly small
sizes.
