Another two months of winter
are now behind us, and another
month closer to warmer
weather! Even though we were
hit with some significant
snowfall, many of you are still
riding! In January there were 3
impromptu rides that had
several hard-core riders
attending. February also proved
to have some nice weather
allowing another lunch ride up to
Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ in Lyons.
Please remember that our
chapter motto is “Ride and Have
Fun”, so if you have any ideas
for rides please contact our
Head or Assistant Head Road
Captains.
As many of you know, I am from
PA. I returned home over
Valentines weekend, and
endured the Polar Vortex that hit
out there. Even though it was
-16 (with a wind-chill of -33) on
Sunday morning, my husband
and I attended the local HOG
Sunday Breakfast Meeting. I
had the honor to speak about
our chapter, and tell them about
our members, rides and most of
all our annual 5N1. Many of
them were quite interested, and
hopefully they will be making the
trip out here in the next few
years.
The 17th Annual 5N1 is just
around the corner. Remember
to register early and reserve
your room at the Marriott in Ft.
Collins. We will be holding a
drawing to upgrade your room if

you are registered prior to the
pre-party. You have a chance to
win an upgrade to your room
with a complimentary beer
amenity package. All you need
to do is bring your hotel
confirmation to the pre-party to
be entered in the drawing. The
drawing will take place the
evening of the pre-party and you
must be present to win.

Saturday Ride: A friend called
and said “lets ride up to Cripple
Creek”. As it was a great
summer day I replied “done
deal”. My wife and I jumped on
the bike and we were on our
way. We arrived and proceeded
to lose a few quarters and sip a
couple morning Bloody Mary’s.
An hour after we arrived it was
time to head for Victor and a
cold beer. Beer done it was time
to head back to the big city. The
road was wonderful as I tagged
behind my friend. He then
motion me to pull up and I
cranked the throttle open.
When I got close he waved me
around, guess he wanted me to
lead. That’s cool, more throttle,

crested the hill outside Divide at
95. Oh Shit …… Little old lady
stopped dead in the road.
Locked the brakes, tire smoke
filling the sky. That big rear
bumper just kept getting closer.
Glanced left, barrow pit looked
softer than the bumper. Going
for it. Let off the brakes to make
a slight left turn. Handle bars
went wild, this old cowboy is
about to get bucked off. Flying

already scheduled. Don’t miss
out on the fun. The more riders
the more fun for all.
Lucky I hit head first. Broken
ribs, collar bone, shoulder and
some stitches behind my ears.
Wife fine.
Moral of the story, I made a few
changes to how I ride.
Remember it is your ride, your
choices.
As we closed the books on
January, we had a total of
$11,934.54 of which $1,893.80
was the LOH balance and
$10,040.74 was the HOG
balance.
Currently, as of February 16 our
total is $12,688.70 with LOH
having $1,916.53 and HOG
having $10,772.17.

As we move from PMS (Parked
Motorcycle Syndrome) into the
fledgling 2016 riding season, we
have had a few great rides
already this year. Get that bike
ready, look at the TCLOCKS
description on the website and
make sure everything is ship
shape. Take that cover off the
bike and ride. We have many
great impromptu rides as that
cabin fever forces folks out and
about. Check your e-mails for
announcements and look at the
ride calendar for those that are

We will soon be getting into the
busy riding season. We have 2
new & exciting ride challenges
starting this year, The Tangled
29 and Twisted 29. At the
March Hog meeting we will be
drawing the order for Tangled
29. We are also considering
doing an Iron Butt ride. We will
be discussing and planning
these rides at the Hog meetings.
If you are interested in doing an
Iron Butt Ride this year please

I joined HOG right after I bought
my first bike and have been
enjoying their benefits ever
since. I decided this spring to
volunteer to be the editor so I
can do something to give back
to everyone that supported me
and the whole HOG family for
the last 9 years.
As your editor I am in charge of
putting together this newsletter.
If you would like to write an
article to be included, or have
ideas of what I can research for
the newsletter, let me know.
Let’s make this interesting for
everyone. This is your
newsletter so don’t be shy about
offering ideas for improvements
and inclusions.
Lets get out and ride.

We would like to welcome
aboard a new Assistant
Webmaster Dave Marshall! He
started helping PPHOG last fall
and we are very grateful to have
him with us. This year we
started out with a Spanking New
Web Site. “Wa Ho” The aim is
to help the PPHOG improve
their website in appearance and
make it a joy for people to come,
browse and see what we have
available. Last winter was a
cold one so it was time for me to
open up the innovative &
creative side of me (not much
there) and build the Pikes Peak
HOG Cell Phone App. For
everyone that has a smart
phone you can download the
Please let me introduce myself.
I’m a Colorado native, born in
Denver raised in Colorado
Springs. I attended UCCS for 2
and 1/2 years then Vietnam
happened and I enlisted in the
Air Force.
I spent 5 years traveling around
the world from the UK to Alaska,
then 41 years working in the
private sector; now I am retired.
I bought my first Harley, a 2005
Road King Custom in October of
2005 and since then I have had
4 other bikes, all Harley’s. I’m
currently riding a 2015 CVO
Road Glide Ultra. I wish I would
have started riding 45 years

I would like to introduce myself.
I have been riding since 1976,
starting small (Honda 175) and
working my way up to my 2006
Street Glide (my seventh bike).
My biggest rides have been two
trips to West Virginia from here
(solo both times), and finally
making it to Sturgis in 2013. I
have been a HOG member for a
few years now and am excited

to see the Chapter moving
forward. I look forward to
working with the Chapter
officers and the membership.

Historian

As the new Historian, I am
committed to documenting and
preserving the activities of the
Chapter and ensuring the
members can access the
historical documents, photos,
flyers, etc. Digging into the
Chapter locker I found a
notebook containing documents
from 1986-1996 (thanks to
whoever saved this notebook!).
The first thing I discovered was
that we are coming up to a very
important anniversary this year.
From what I have read, this
chapter was established in
September 1986 (if someone
has further information on this I
would appreciate hearing it).
So, this September marks our
30th Anniversary!! I think we
should celebrate this special
occasion and would appreciate
any inputs on how we can do it.
-------------------------------------------
Since this is a new position, I
am asking you to help me build
the “library” so we can all relive
the past. If anyone has been a
member for a while (especially
from the beginning) I would love
to talk with you. If you have any
old newsletters, photos, etc and
would be willing to allow me to
make copies (either paper or
electronic), it would go a long
way to preserving the past. I will
continue to dig in the locker and
check around the dealership to
see what other treasures I can
find. I look forward to meeting
and riding with you!
