THANK YOU for purchasing AquaOne’s FlowManager, the only automatic overflow and leak, detector and stopper for tank toilets. Your new FlowManager system is specially designed to give you effective, money saving protection to stop tank toilet overflows and leaks. The FlowManager is quick and easy to install. A. B. C. D. Pictured: Bowl Sensor Controller Tank Sensor – Large Part Tank Sensor – Small Part Not Pictured: 90 degree elbow * Extension neck elbow * Allen wrench ** Wire Hiding Clips (qty. 2) Alcohol Pad Battery Insert w/batteries Battery Cover Slide * Items not typically needed for most installations ** Used only for manually overriding the Controller in cases of emergency You will need the following items to install your FlowManager: • • A small bowl or towel to catch any excess water. A cloth to thoroughly clean and dry the area where adhesive will be applied to the bowl rim. You may also need to replace your water supply line and angle stop. (See Caution below) It is strongly recommended that your water supply line be a flexible steel braided hose rather than rigid metal tubing. The flexible steel braided hose offers the safest connection, an excellent seal, and will not kink or crack. Be sure to check that there is enough length in the water supply line to safely install the FlowManager Controller without stressing the angle stop, the supply line, or the FlowManager. DO NOT submerge the Controller or expose it to excessive water. The FlowManager Controller is designed to operate in a normal bathroom environment, but excessive water could penetrate the Controller housing and will damage the Controller. The FlowManager will detect and stop leaks only from within the toilet. It will not detect nor stop leaks from the water supply line or the wax ring area. Example of a flexible steel braided water supply hose (flex hose). NOTE! Use of tools is not recommended for installation. Do NOT over-tighten connection as damage may result. Shut off the water supply valve by turning it clockwise. (It is not necessary to drain the tank as only a small amount of excess water may be left in the fill valve and supply line.) Place a small bowl or towel underneath the water supply line to catch any excess water that may remain in the line. Disconnect the water supply line from the toilet tank only. Make sure the fill valve assembly does not loosen, which could cause a leak. Connect and tighten the Controller to the bottom of the tank. Be sure the threads are seated properly to avoid stripping or cross threading – it should thread and turn easily by hand. Improper threading will cause leaks. Note that the extension elbows can ease installation in cases where the angle stop, the wall, and the toilet are too close to each other. Connect and tighten the water supply line to the bottom of the Controller. Note that the water supply line hose connector MUST HAVE a rubber washer in it or it will leak. Reopen your water supply line and check that no water is leaking from the connections at the top and bottom of the Controller. ! # Gently remove the toilet tank cover and set it aside. A properly setup toilet should have at least 1” between the water level and the top of the overflow tube. Adjust the water level accordingly. Clip the larger part of the Tank Sensor to the overflow tube (or in some cases the fill valve) in a position where it does not interfere with other components such as the flapper. Adjust the height of the larger part of the Tank Sensor in the water until the doughnut shaped float is fully submerged. Clip the smaller part of the Tank Sensor to the supplied Tube Ring, and then slip the ring over the end of the overflow tube. Flush the toilet a couple of times to verify that sensors don’t affect other tank parts. Route the Tank Sensor lead wire over the back of the tank. $ % # Without removing the adhesive tape cover, place the Bowl Sensor in the desired location to visualize the appearance of the sensor on the bowl. We recommend placing the Bowl Sensor just to the left or right of the seat hinges. Make sure the location you choose does not interfere with the toilet seat when it is down. Check at this time that the wire lead is long enough to connect with the Controller. " $ % # ' () Thoroughly clean the toilet bowl rim in the area where you intend to place the Bowl Sensor. To ensure maximum adhesion of the sensor, you must cleanse the area by wiping it with the alcohol pad provided. Make sure the area is completely dry before continuing. When ready, peel off the adhesive tape cover underneath the Bowl Sensor and place the sensor at the desired location. Press down firmly. Then slide the Bowl Sensor off the track, and press down firmly on the track and hold for one or two minutes. Important: Keep dry for at least 48 hours to achieve maximum adhesion. * Plug the sensors into the Controller. Secure the sensor wiring behind the tank using the included plastic wire-clips or the bowl and tank bolts. Slide the plastic plug cover over the connection. Check that the Tank Sensor is still properly positioned within the tank. Insert the battery pack into the Controller. There is only one way to do it. It will firmly “snap” into place. Note that you may need to use two hands to avoid excessive sideways pressure on the Controller and the fill-valve. The Controller will conduct a short self-test whenever the battery is installed. It will turn the valve to the open position and beep twice to indicate everything is ready. (See below if the Controller indicates any alarms.) Replace the tank cover. Your FlowManager is now installed. & $ , Pressing the ALARM SILENCE BUTTON will silence the audible alarm. Pressing the OPEN VALVE BUTTON will restore the water supply to the toilet after a leak or overflow event has closed the valve. There are three lights used individually and in combination to alert you to a problem. Use the table below to determine the problem The batteries are low and need to be replaced. If the batteries get too low, the Controller will shut off the water supply. Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm The Controller has detected a leak in your toilet. This can be a very small silent flapper leak, a stuck open flapper, cracked case, or loose tank bolts. Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm The Controller has detected an overflow condition in the bowl. Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm The Controller has detected rising water in the tank possibly spilling into the overflow tube. This could be from a leaking, misadjusted, or broken fill valve. Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm The Controller has detected that FlowManager is not set correctly. Check the tank sensor positioning. Most likely the larger tank sensor needs to be lowered. The Controller has detected a stuck open flapper. Please correct flapper problem and then press open valve to reset. Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm The Controller has detected a malfunction. Please contact the manufacturer. Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm Correct any problems and press the OPEN VALVE BUTTON to restore normal water flow to the toilet. Note that the Controller will NOT reopen the valve if an overflow condition still exists either in the bowl or the tank. Be sure to clear the bowl sensor of any debris and that it is operating freely, and lower the water level in the tank so that it is about 1” from the top of the overflow tube. + . You can choose to completely disable the Audible Alarm. The Controller will operate normally, but in a silent mode. Press and hold the ALARM SILENCE BUTTON until you hear three beeps. To re-enable the alarm, press and hold the ALARM SILENCE BUTTON until you hear one beep. / , The FlowManager is set to maximum protection and alerting by default. If a problem is detected it will shut off the water supply and alert you by sounding an alarm, flashing lights, and chirping every two seconds depending on the problem. This behavior can be changed using a simple set of button presses to select one of five different profiles. (Overflow detection cannot be disabled.) Use the table below to determine which profile best suits your needs. Note: If product is purchased with only a bowl sensor, the unit must be set to Profile #5. Each time the batteries are replaced, the unit resets back to Profile #1. Profile #1 Maximum Protection Water is shut off for all events, and Alerts are made for all events. Profile #2 No Leak shut off, but continue to Alert The Controller will not shut off the water if leaks are detected, but Alerts will continue. Profile #3 No Leak or Stuck Flapper Shut Off, but continue to Alert The Controller will not shut off the water if leaks or stuck open flappers are detected, but Alerts will continue. Profile #4 No Leak or Stuck Flapper Shut Off, but continue to Alert Stuck Flappers The Controller will not shut off the water if leaks or stuck open flappers are detected, but Alerts will continue for Stuck Open Flappers. Leaks are ignored entirely. Profile #5 Overflow Protection Only Only Overflows are detected, leaks and stuck open flappers are ignored entirely. - # To change the Profile, press and hold the OPEN VALVE BUTTON for approx 10 seconds. This will cause the Controller to enter the Profile Selection mode. The three lights indicate which Profile is to be selected. The currently selected Profile will be displayed first. Pressing ALARM SILENCE BUTTON will select the next Profile. When the Profile of your choice is displayed, press the OPEN VALVE BUTTON again to lock it in and exit the Profile Selection mode. Use the table below to determine which Profile is selected. Profile #1 Maximum Protection Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm Profile #2 No Leak shut off, but continue to Alert Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm Profile #3 No Leak or Stuck Flapper Shut Off, but continue to Alert Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm Profile #4 No Leak or Stuck Flapper Shut Off, but continue to Alert Stuck Flappers Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm Profile #5 Overflow Protection Only Low Battery Leak Alarm Overflow Alarm Note that the Controller will automatically exit the Profile Selection mode, without making any changes, after 20 seconds of inactivity, or if a problem event is detected. 1 2 , 3 4 / In case of emergency, the valve can be manually opened or closed. Insert the provided Allen wrench into the small hole located on the back of the Controller and turn it CLOCKWISE until the valve opens or closes (approximately 40 turns). 0 Your FlowManager is a technically engineered product and with proper care is designed to give years of valuable service. Care is needed to maintain its performance and appearance. The Controller can be cleaned by wiping with a damp soft cloth using a mild non-abrasive cleaner. DO NOT submerge the Controller. The front of the Bowl Sensor can be cleaned during regular toilet cleaning. It can also be removed by sliding it off its mounting track for a more thorough cleaning. After cleaning the Bowl Sensor, make sure the inside float moves freely up and down before reinstalling it. It is recommended that the Tank Sensor be thoroughly cleaned every 3 months to remove any mineral deposit buildup that may keep the float from moving freely. DO NOT use a harsh acid based toilet bowl cleaner on any parts of the FlowManager. Mild toilet bowl cleaners can be used.
