Press while in Thailand. ‹Roaming Tips How to use 3G handset in countries with 3G networks The mobile phone network (2G) in Thailand is different from those (3G) in countries you are roaming with. In the case that you are unable to use the services, please switch “Network Mode” to 2G (850/900/1800/1900). Please refer to your handset user guides on how to select network mode. If there are several International Roaming partner operators in the country you are in, your handset will select the operator with the strongest signal. Manual Network Selection You can manually select a network on your mobile phone after comparing the services, such as network coverage and value added services. Method 1 : To retrieve a voice mail with password To utilize the voice mail service, you may obtain your personal password by the following different procedures. To apply for, cancel or change your password - Call IVR (while in Thailand) on your handset. Method 2 : To retrieve a voice mail without entering password Press Service Rates Calls are charged at Call Home Service rates, helping you save up to 70%, from the country you are in to Thailand. You can retrieve a Voice Mail without entering password only when you are roaming in the country where Call Home Service is available. To send a message 1. Select “Write message” then type your message (maximum 160 characters in English and 70 characters in Thai per message). 2.Press Data Roaming (EDGE/GPRS) Service Explore the world and enjoy the comfort of staying fully connected. Connect You | 23 With The World ‹Roaming Tips Data Roaming (EDGE/GPRS) Using Data Roaming when abroad, you will be charged in VolumeBased principle (KByte, 1 MB = 1024 KB) rather than Time-Based principle (minute/hour) as you are using in Thailand. All EDGE/GPRS packages you use while in Thailand do not include the data service when roaming abroad. Smart Tip for Smart Phones Some handsets connect to Data Roaming all the time and automatically transfer data i.e stock market, weather forecast. It may incur undesirable expense. Please carefully study how your handsets perform before using the Data Roaming service and subscribe Data Roaming packages to make your trip abroad more money-saving. This service allows you to converse with up to six callers simultaneously. (Call conference maximum of 6 people is based on the mobile capability.) Service Rates Airtime charges are applied to the party initiating the call at International Roaming rates as specified by the International Roaming partner operator you are roaming with. You can specify the welcome calls which you want to receive at all times, and the blocked calls which you do not want to receive. The service also sends you SMS to notify you of incoming blocked calls. Connect You | 37 With The World Tips and Trouble Shooting Things to do before traveling abroad 1.Check that you have subscribed to International Roaming Service before traveling. 2. Be sure to pack your International Roaming Handbook and your handset user guide. 3. Be sure to pack your power charger and a universal plug adapter, since power voltages and plug fittings abroad can differ from those in Thailand. 4.It is illegal in some countries to use a mobile phone without a car kit or handsfree set while driving. 5. Unable to connect to the local network in a roaming country When you switch on your mobile phone and do not see any network name on the screen, or it displays the warning, “Emergency Calls Only”, “Access Denied”, or “No Access”, it means that your handset cannot automatically connect to a local network. • Solution - Try selecting a network manually by going to Manual Network Selection. - If this still does not work, try moving to another location and repeat the first step. - Remove the SIM card from your handset and insert it into another handset. If this works, the problem is with your handset. Alternatively, insert another SIM card into your handset and see if it works. If it does, your SIM card may be damaged. - If your phone supports 3G network, switch Network Mode to 2G (details on page 9). 2. Able to connect to the local network but unable to make or receive calls • Solution - Check whether Call Barring Service has been activated for either incoming calls or outgoing international calls. To cancel Call Barring Service, see pages 27-28. Connect You | 39 With The World - Check whether you have correctly followed the instructions on how to make and receive calls on pages 13-15. - Check whether you have an unpaid balance on your previous AIS statement. 3. If your phone has already been connected to the network but it is unable to send an SMS. • Solution - Check if the configuration of Message Center Number on your phone is based on long numbers format, +66 81 811 0888 or +66 81 831 0808. - Please refer to your handset user guides on how to set Message Center Number. 4. Lost or stolen handset or SIM card • Solution - Contact AIS CALL CENTER at +66 2 271 9000 to temporarily deactivate your SIM card. If you are still unable to fix these problems, please contact AIS CALL CENTER at 1175 or +66 2 271 9000 stating your AIS GSM number, the country you are roaming in, and the network you are roaming with together with details of your problem.
