Born and raised in Wexford town, Pierce Turner’s musical journey began as a soprano in his school choir, moved through clarinet, piano, The Beatles, Dylan and Pink Floyd, various beat groups, folk rock collectives, and then graduated to collaborations with singer/guitarist Larry Kirwan and then avant garde composer Philip Glass. Something of a resilient renegade in the entertainment business, Pierce Turner has achieved the kind of critical acclaim that most musicians would steal for. This ‘heir apparent to Van Morrisson’ - Joyce with a Voice - was described by critic Geoff Wallis as ‘one of the most devastatingly innovative, constructively creative and ridiculously overlooked songwriters and musicians of the last few decades’. Turner will take to the stage with his VeRRy Small Orchestra, including Rian Trench on drums, Garvan Gallagher on bass, and Lynda O’Connor on violin. www.pierceturner.com Date: Sat 16th June Time: 8pm Price: €18 ow.ie secarl www.eig JUN 17th MUSIC Young-Choon Park South Korean born pianist and child prodigy Young-Choon began the study of the piano at the age of four and gave her first full recital when she was seven. To mark the 30th anniversary of the movie last year, a collective of some of Dublin’s most renowned musicians under the name “The Group”, set about the impossible task of recreating the 2 hour show live in tribute to the original concert.
