the 2015-2016 Adventure Guide!
GIRL SCOUTS of SOUTHERN ARIZONA girlscoutssoaz.org THE GIRL SCOUT PROMISE On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law. Dear Girls, Volunteers, Parents & Caregivers: Welcome to the Adventure Guide! The Adventure Guide was designed with you all in mind. Programs and activities have been developed to engage and inspire girls and families of all ages. Your Girl Scout team asked volunteers and girls what kind of Adventures they wanted to experience during the upcoming Girl Scout year and then set out to craft some very cool adventures. The Guide includes opportunities for girls to earn badges and complete journeys in the company of girls from across the Council at special day and weekend events. Girl Scouts is all about making new friends while building new skills and the Badge and Journey activities can be enjoyed by all Scouts. Troops can come together or girls are welcome independently. The goal of these days is to give all girls the opportunity to try on a variety of Girl Scout Leadership Experiences. You will find these special days in Tucson as well as Yuma, Sierra Vista, Nogales and Casa Grande. This year we have teamed with community partners to arrange special programs for our Girls. You will find programs offered by Mad Science, Girl Power, First Tee and the Desert Museum to name just a few. I truly believe that we have a program and a partner to meet our girls’ unique interests. THE GIRL SCOUT LAW I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout. Taking Action defines what girls love about Girl Scouting. This year you will find activities planned for every National Day of Service. Girls also love to explore the outdoors and this year is the year for Jamboree. Come camp with hundreds of your Girl Scout sisters as we make new friends from across the state. If your Troop can’t attend Jamboree then check out the special troop camps that are being offered during the year. Another highlight of this Adventure Guide are all the programs planned and facilitated by our MoveMENt group. This group of Dads and Guys create cool “she and him” opportunities for our girls. Girls can go fishing, bowling or miniature golfing with that special guy in their lives. It is the perfect way for men to prove that they are “Man Enough to Be Girl Scouts” while enjoying special time with the Girl Scout in their life. I would also like to encourage girls, troops and families to join me on several Walks with the Chief. I will be leading teams as we walk to support a variety of causes that touch the lives of our girls and their families. These will be awesome ways to get moving and to raise awareness for issues that our families grapple with. Girl Scouting is all about fun and adventure while making friends and Discovering, Connecting and Taking Action in the community. The programs we have planned will definitely serve our girls well! Please join me in this year of adventure designed with you and your girls in mind. On My Honor, Debbie Rich (Chief Girl Scout) EVENT CANCELLATION In the event we (Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona) find it necessary to cancel, all registered participants will receive a full refund of payments made. REFUND POLICY Cancellations and refund requests must be received in writing a minimum of 14 days prior to the start date of the program. Cancellations received after the program start date will not be honored. In extreme circumstances, these guidelines may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. An event cancellation form must be completed and turned in at the time of cancellation. Forms are available at all council resource centers and online. Refunds are not given for events with a fee of $10 or less. Refunds will be issued as either a program credit for the entire amount or a check. Additionally, refund checks will not be issued for amounts less than $10. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Financial Assistance is available to help girls discover the magic of Girl Scouts.
