THE
WEEKLY
FREE Weekly Supplement to the Boonville Daily News
Benefit to be
held for local DJ
Dane Gregg
A benefit will be held
Sunday, April 28 at the
Knights of Columbus Hall
for long time Pirate Radio
Network and KWRT announcer Dane Gregg who
has recently been undergoing treatment for cancer and
heart issues. A lunch of
spaghetti and salad, bread
and dessert will be served
between 12-2:30 p.m. A live
auction will begin at 3 p.m.
The suggested donation will
be $7 for adults and $5 for
children 12 and under. Children three and younger eat
free.
Close friend to Gregg,
Aletha Odneal, is chairing
the benefit. Odneal said
Gregg and his wife Jackie
were some of the first people she got to know after
moving to Boonville 32
years ago. She said the generosity she learned with
them is the same generosity
she wants to give back to
them when they need it
most. Odneal said the benefit is intended to help
Gregg and his family in
their time of need since they
have helped so many others
in need.
"Dane suffered two heart
attacks and since has been
having blood pressure problems. After being admitted
to the hospital for further
testing the doctors discov-
ered he had esophageal cancer. A plan of treatment was
established and began. During the treatment his feeding tube became infected
and he was admitted again
and another scan was done,
only to find out this week
that the cancer had
spread. Right away Dane
said he wanted to fight it
with all he had so the doctors changed there plan of
attack and have chosen to
treat the cancer rapidly,"
Odneal said.
Odneal said Gregg and
and his family's hearts are
bigger than their bodies.
"Dane has been involved in
Habitat for Humanity,
served on the board for the
food bank and of course is
the DJ on KWRT where he
is loved by many," Odneal
said.
Odneal said 100 percent
of the food has been donated for the benefit, which
is enough to feed 500 people. Odneal has also designed Team Dane T-shirts
to sell with all of the proceeds going to the Gregg
family.
"Cancer is not contagious
but my fighting spirit is, is
the slogan we will be using
for Dane as we continue to
cheer him on until he beats
this cancer," Odneal said.

So, all of that goodness is always on hand in your pantry,
making it simple to get nutritious meals on the table that
your family will love.

CLASS OF 2013
COOPER COUNTY —
Teams of Cooper County
residents will gather at the
Cooper County Fairgrounds on April 26th,
2013 at 5:45 PM for an
overnight relay against
cancer.
Relay For Life is a fun
filled event that mobilizes
communities throughout
the country to celebrate
survivors (anyone who
has ever been diagnosed
with cancer), remember
loved ones and raise
money for the fight
against cancer.
The event begins with a
cancer survivors lap celebrating those who have
survived cancer or who
are currently battling cancer. Games, music, live
entertainment encourage
people all through the
night. Some teams also
hold creative fundraisers
at their camp sites during
Relay.
Relay For Life’s Luminaria Ceremony takes
place after sundown, honoring the community’s
cancer survivors and re-
membering those lost to
the disease or thanking
those who have helped
them through it. Participants will circle a track
that is surrounded with
glowing luminaria that
bear the name of someone
who has battled cancer or
a special caregiver. Luminaria may be purchased
for $5 by calling Becky
Ehlers at 660-888-0191 or
by visiting www.relayforlife.org/coopercomo.
Also a part of the
Cooper County Relay For
Life event is the “Fight
Back Ceremony in which
the Relay Committee will
inspire Relay participants
with his or her own commitment and will challenge them to take a
personal pledge of action
(e.g., stop smoking, eat
more healthy, exercise
regularly etc.) in fighting
back.
The American Cancer
Society Relay For Life
first started in May 1985,
when Dr. Gordy Klatt took
the first step of this 24hour walk around the
track in Tacoma, Washington raising $27,000 to
support the American
Cancer Society. For more
information on how you
can get involved in Relay
visit RelayForLife.org or
call 1-800-227-2345.
