Marketplace Health Insurance - Form 1095-A
Well, there is a lot of confusion on these
health insurance forms - Form 1095A, B or
C and rightfully so. The one that really matters for this tax season (2015 tax returns) is
the 1095-A. This form provides information
necessary to complete your 2015 tax return.
care coverage for any part of 2015 you must
make an individual shared responsiblility
payment unless you qualify for an exemption. The complexity of our health insurance
over the last few years is incredible, to say
the least.
Those who will receive the 1095-A purchased their health insurance through the
Marketplace. You may have used an insurance agent to obtain your health care coverage and still purchased it through the Marketplace. You need to check with your insurance agent if you are not sure. You should
also look at your monthly insurance bill to
see if there is a line item showing any type of
credit towards your payment. If there is, this
means you may have had some type of government assistance towards your premiums.
You will need the 1095-A to complete your
2015 tax return.
If you try to file your returns without completing the necessary health insurance information and forms your return will be held
up. For those people who received the 1095B or 1095-C do not have to worry about this
too much. If you did not have health insurance coverage for the full 12 months of 2015,
you may be subject to the individual shared
responsibiliyt payment unless you qualify for
an exemption.
Another scenario is you may have coverage through your workplace but your spouse
and / or children are covered under another
plan. They may have a Form 1095-A on their
plan. Any dependent on your return who
purchased health insurance through the Marketplace will need to provide you with a
1095-A in order to complete your tax returns.
This information is necessary to reconcile
either advance payments and/or to claim a
premium tax credit if you are eligible. Also,
If you or any member of your family, who
you claim as a dependent, did not have health
To sum this up, be very careful when you
provide information to your tax professional
or if you prepare your own returns. The
health insurance coverage information has
given many filers problems because they did
not have complete or accurate information.

DISINHERITANCE
A recent Court of Appeals
decision has raised a new
issue about the ability of a
parent to disinherit a child.
Michigan
provides for
c e r t a i n
allowances and
p r o p e r t y
exemptions for
family members
as a priority over Attorney James
creditors or R. Porritt, Jr.
other expenses of an estate.
In a case in which a will
clearly provided that one
child was to receive nothing
from the estate, the Court
held that such language
could not preclude that child
from receiving that statutory
share of the exempt
property.
The decision appears to fly
in the face of the express
intention of the probate
code to determine the
intention of a decedent and
to carry it out.
Nonetheless, until that
decision is reversed or the
legislature amends the act,
simple
intentional
omissions may not suffice.
Alternate mechanisms of
estate planning can be
utilized by knowledgeable
attorneys.

Padgett Business Services
of North Oakland is in the
midst of our tax season.
Our preparation with the
businesses we serve is a yearlong-activity. We are planning while we prepare this
year’s returns. It is a very virtuous cycle.
We have been serving businesses for a long time. We
are led by a tax attorney (JD,
LLM, MBA) with decades of
practical experience in tax
and law. And we have accountants with years of serving local clients. Padgett has
served Lake Orion for over
twenty years.
Importantly, we care about
the clients we serve.
We are a Padgett franchisee
because it allows us to remain
constantly apprised of tax and
law changes. They are a valued ally and resource.
Yes, we serve small businesses with complex tax and
accounting needs. We are
competent, convenient, local
and affordable.
If you have accounting and
tax issues, we would like to
help. Padgett Business Services: “America’s Firm For

Building relationships one IRA at a time
Grant Fodor thought he had his life all planned out. In
high school, he was courted by several schools with
offers of football scholarships. But Grant knew what
he wanted to do, so he narrowed his choices down to
Michigan Tech and Wayne State – because both schools
had great engineering programs. See, Grant was going
to be an engineer like his dad. The only problem was
that when Grant started taking engineering classes at
Wayne State, he found he didn’t really like it that much.
On his mother’s advice, he switched to business and
there’s been no stopping him since. He took an accounting class – hated it – a marketing class – it was okay –
