KXKT: God, Country and Family
In a middle-class Omaha school, a little girl secretly put part of her lunch in her pocket
each day. She and her sisters had nothing to eat at home. It’s hard to imagine how
hunger strikes our entire community, but when we heard this story from our local food
bank we knew we had to do something. KXKT made it our mission to help feed hungry
kids with the backpack program through the Food Bank for the Heartland. In November,
KXKT listeners donated $800,000 to feed hungry kids.
At KXKT, we are committed to providing clean, family entertainment and meaningful,
impactful community projects. Our listeners are truly “difference makers,” and lived up to
their name by helping us raise $1.9 million for 16 charitable causes. We are most proud of
the nine signature events Kat 103.7 created to address pressing, community needs.
These include our motorcycle run for the troops, grade school book tour and Healthy Kids
Carnival.
Since 2007, our advisory board of 15 community leaders has
helped identify critical needs in our area, such as violence in
North Omaha, Senior Scams and more. KXKT then highlights
these issues on-air. One of the local Public Service campaigns we
are most proud of is our volunteerism campaign. Our KXKT on-air
personalities chose the charitable organizations they volunteered
for to highlight in 30 second public service announcements and
encouraged listeners to help in the community.
At KXKT, our priorities are God, Country and Family. Together,
these three areas make Omaha a wonderful Kat Country
community.

#relayselfies
Survivors: we want you on our team to help spread the word about Relay for
Life. Spread the word by sharing your selfie on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or
whatever other social network you are on and make sure to include #relayselfies
and a link back to this page, so people can sign up their teams as well.
The Relay for Life Douglas
County event was June 8th
at Elkhorn High School and we
wanted all Cancer Survivors to be
there to walk the Survivors lap to
help celebrate the hope that they
represent. Whether they were one
day into treatment or a 20 year
survivor—they were our inspiration
for Relay for Life. There was no
charge to participate. We just
wanted survivors to attend because
they are our Heroes!

Kat 103.7 Woodhouse Challenge
November 2013 $800,946.20 raised
Five years ago, Kat 103.7 became aware that 84,000 kids in
Nebraska and Western Iowa didn't know where they would
get their next meal. That's why we developed the “Kat 103.7
Woodhouse Challenge for the Food Bank for the Heartland"
to help feed hungry children. The Kat 103.7 staff teamed up
with the Food Bank for the Heartland for the month of
November. By using impactful sound bites from children
receiving backpacks, we solicited donations for backpacks
of food. The backpacks contain nutritious food and are sent
home with the school children over the weekend who may
have nothing to eat. Kat 103.7 listener donations have
helped the Food Bank grow the backpack program from
feeding 700 children 5 years ago to 8,000 children this year.

We Care At the Kat
Kat 103.7 is proud to support the local community.
This year we established We Care @ The Kat. This
is a program designed specifically for people in our
area who are putting on events and don’t have the
budget to advertise. Wecare@thekat.com has
received an overwhelming response in the short
time since we’ve had it up and running. We
highlight one local charitable event weekly.
So far we’ve been able to help:
•
A local church with their benefit to send underprivileged kids to camp
•
Get the word out about a poker run to benefit a local veteran
•
Highlight a spaghetti feed to help a local family in need
•
Help a group with their fundraiser for a single mom fighting cancer

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS
KAT 103.7 is committed to the community with our donation of air time
to the community for charitable events. Kat 103.7 is proud to support the local community.
From June 1, 2013 through May 31, 2014 we aired 2,185 local Public Service Announcements. These
PSA’s run in prime hours to help these local organizations receive the exposure they so richly deserve.
The Kat 103.7 Local Advisory Board, comprised of 15 leaders in the community, helps our radio station
decide one prime topic on which to focus each quarter along with many smaller charitable topics. One
example that spawned from our Local Advisory Board was our neighborhood watch campaign. Last
summer, Kat 103.7 partnered with the Omaha Police Department to encourage neighbors to be aware
of suspicious activity, look for warning signs and take action to keep their neighborhood safe. Below is
a partial list of the organizations that received Public Service Announcements at no charge on Kat 103.7.

Dear Steve and Gina
I have to tell you I became a fan of this
station about 5 years ago when the station I
used to listen to began playing 24/7 Xmas
music the day after Thanksgiving and found
The Kat. I have withdrawals when the two
of you are not on the air in the morning. All
of my radios are tuned to the Kat. Thank you
for keeping County going strong in the

I love listening to both of you

I just wanted to reach out and thank you for advertising the
Children’s Hospital Golf Event so well. This was an amazing
fundraiser and people who didn’t have a chance to participate
really missed out. I was personally invited by a friend of mine
that just got over Lymphoma last year. Without fundraisers like
this one, families like his wouldn’t have been able to do it. He
was stuck in the hospital for months at a time and his family lives
over an hour away, but Children’s was so welcoming.
Kat 103.7 really does a lot for foundations like this one that
makes it really a special station to listen to. Not only do you have
the best country music available, and I love listening to Steve and
Gina’s morning show, but you really do a lot for the community.
