Maine Guide To Finding OLD BOOKS Maine Antiquarian Booksellers Association 2014 – 2015 Directory MABA Brochure Alphabetical Listing Maine Antiquarian Booksellers Association MABA was formed in 1977 with 28 members; we now have over 50 members dealing in a wide range of used, rare and out-of-print books, maps, prints, autographs, bindings, photographs and ephemera. Shops range from a general stock of over 100,000 books to specialist stock of several hundred titles. The MABA Directory is designed for readers, collectors, librarians and booksellers interested in used, rare, and out-of-print books and those items directly related to books, such as maps, prints, autographs, bindings and photographs. Our members have tried to describe their inventory accurately, but please bear in mind that quantity and stock specialties are subject to availability and the ever-changing market. Also, since most shops are sole proprietorships, it's best to call ahead to avoid disappointment. All MABA members are signatories to a code of ethical business practices. Please note that many of our members' books can be found 24/7 at Abebooks.com, Alibris.com, Amazon.com, and Half.com as well as their own websites. We hope that this directory will enrich your Maine book shopping experience. For more information or for additional copies of this directory, please contact one of the officers listed below. A. Reasons to Own Real Bound Books Centuries old bound books are perfectly readable, will your great-greatgreat grandchildren will be able to say the same of today's e-reader? If you can't reach the table you can perch upon a bound book. A bound book will work after sitting on a shelf for years and years, it will never lose its charge. You can hit a mugger with a bound book without worrying about cracking the screen. When you're finished with a bound book you can sell it, or, even better, give it to a friend. If you leave a bound book on the table while you go to get a refill of your coffee most likely it will still be there when you return. You can safely read a bound book while enjoying a bubble bath, even if it gets wet it will still work. In the event of a zombie apocalypse you can use piles of bound books to barricade doors and windows. Over time a first-edition bound book at least stands a chance of increasing in value. When you wrap a bound book as a present it needs a much larger box. If you drop a bound book it doesn't break. The same bound book that is easily read in bright sunlight can also be enjoyed by candlelight. A bound book will never be incompatible with a new operating system, nor will it ever fail because a new cpu causes it to crash. Turning the pages of a bound book burns calories, thus reading lots of bound books will improve your physical fitness. In your friendly neighborhood bookstore you can sample real bound books while meeting others who share your interests. Reading a bound book allows a direct connection to Egyptians, Chinese and Mayans who lived thousands and thousands of years ago. You can walk into your local library and with but a brief glance be confronted with the most delicious dilemma of having to decide which of the thousands and thousands of bound books you will read next. Readers, all readers, at one time or another will find that a bound book can be a good friend.
