REGISTRATION INFORMATION
How Do I Register?
1) Register Online by Credit or Debit Card
at www.waukee.org.
2) Printable Registration Forms can be found

between 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
When Do I Register?
Because we hire staff according to the amount of registration taken,
it is very important that you sign up early!
Photo Policy
Occasionally photos may be taken of participants in the
programs and activities offered by the Waukee Parks and
Recreation Department. Please be aware that these photos may be
used in future brochures and on the City of Waukee website.
Confirmation
The Waukee Parks and Recreation Department does not send confirmation letters. Please mark your calendar when signing up for a
program.
Refund Policy
A $5 non-refundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund
when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of class. Once the
first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the class or
program is cancelled by the Recreation Department.

Youth Activities
Red Cross Babysitting Training
The Waukee Parks and Recreation is hosting an American Red Cross
Babysitting Certification Class. Participants must be 11 years old
and need to bring a sack lunch. Each participant will receive a
Babysitter’s Training Handbook. The class will be held on Monday,
July 8th from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at Waukee Public Works.

Kiddie Kamp
Come join Waukee Parks and Recreation Department for Kiddie
Kamp where kids will learn songs, read stories, make crafts, play
games, and meet new friends. Each class will consist of different
activities led by a certified Elementary Education teacher. This
program is open to kids ages 2-3 and we ask that a parent or guardian
stay to enjoy the fun! Pre-registration is required.

Art in the Park
This program offers a variety of age appropriate projects and activities designed for youth to explore their creative sides. Each day we
will begin and finish a new project. The June 10-14 session will be
held in the Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter. The June 24-28 session will be held at the Ridge Pointe Park Pavilion (655 SE Legacy
Pointe Boulevard). Participants will do arts and crafts, nature activities, and play games.

Kiddie College
At each themed Kiddie College Class there will be a variety of
activities that include playing games, reading stories, arts & crafts,
snacks, and meeting new friends. This program is open to kids ages

Youth Activities
Super Snackers
This class will teach kids new after school snack ideas they can make
when you’re not able to help. Participants will learn how to make
snacks without using a stove or oven. At the end of each class we will
sample their snacks! Class is for kids in grades 2nd-5th.

Youth in the Parks
This program is designed for students entering grades 6 – 8. The
camp consists of morning community betterment activities and the
afternoons are filled with fun and recreation. The campers will meet

Tumbling Tots
This program is a very basic beginning program for little ones designed to get them exploring large motor movements in a group
environment. In each class children will learn very basic tumbling
moves such as the bear walk, crab walk, and much more. We ask
that parents do not stay for this program as little ones can get distracted easily. Our last class will be our “parent progress” class where
parents can stay and see all that their little ones have learned.
Summer Fun Camp
Join the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department for an action
packed week of summer fun. Participants in this camp will enjoy
swimming at the Clive and West Des Moines Aquatic Centers, indoor activities, field trips, and much more! Five days of camp and
lots of things to enjoy! Parks and Recreation staff will supervise and
transport camp participants to and from each destination.

Tumbling Tots II
BRAND NEW for 2013 is our Tumbling Tots II program! This
program is the next step after our Tumbling Tots Program. Children
must have completed our Tumbling Tots Program before taking our
Tumbling Tots II. In this program we will build on the skills that
children learned in Tumbling Tots and increase their skill level. We
ask that parents do not stay for this program as little ones can get
distracted easily. Our last class will be our “parent progress” class

Cheerleading Camp
Waukee Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Waukee Cheerleading Squad to offer a week long Cheerleading Camp. This camp
will provide girls and boys an opportunity to learn cheerleading
technique and new cheers. Parents are encouraged to watch on the
last day while the kids do a short cheer show. Camp participants will
receive a t-shirt and poms.

Simple Science and Beyond Camp
The Waukee Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a science camp this summer. The camp will include science experiments,
projects, guest speakers, and a field trip to the Science Center of
Iowa. Join our energetic and knowledgeable staff for an exciting
week of science, fun, and learning.
Dance Camp
Waukee Dance team is partnering with the Parks and Rec. Dept.
to offer dance camp 2013! Join us for a week long camp that will
include technique instruction and two dance routines featuring hip
hop and pom. The last day of the camp the participants will put on
a show for the parents. Camp participants will receive a t-shirt and
poms.

Me and My Pal is designed to get you and your little one out of the
house to meet new friends. Each Me and My Pal class will consist of
games, play time, activities, and songs for little ones!

Youth Soccer Clinic
Join us for this three session fundamental clinic for 4 and 5 year olds.
Children will be taught the basics of soccer, the positions, some rules,
sportsmanship, kicking, passing, and throwing of the soccer ball. The
second session will be a review of the skills learned and a short intersquad scrimmage. The third session will be a “real” soccer game implementing everything learned in the first two sessions. Participants will
need to bring a water bottle. Shin guards and cleats can be worn, but are
not necessary for this clinic. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch!
Participants will receive a t-shirt. This is a great introduction to our Little Kickers Soccer Program. Registration Deadline: Monday, June 3rd

Parent & Child Blastball
Mini Sluggers T-ball
Mini Sluggers t-ball is open to boys and girls ages 4 and 5. The
program will run 5 weeks with a Tuesday Night League starting June
4th and a Thursday Night League starting June 6th. Mini Sluggers will give kids the opportunity to participate in a summer t-ball
league. This league will teach kids the basic fundamentals of the
game through practices and games. Participants will be split up on
teams and will be scheduled into a short 5 game season. Participants
must be 4 years old by Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Each participant will
receive a t-shirt. Volunteer coaches are needed! Registration Deadline: Friday, May 4th (Register early due to limited space)
Not quite sure if your child is ready for t-ball? This is a chance for 3
year olds to learn the game of baseball/softball with the comfort of their
parent as their partner. Each participant will do the drills with a parent.
Parents will participate in most activities. Gloves are recommended. If
your child does not have one, please contact the Parks and Recreation

2013 Fall Girls’ Recreational Softball League
The league is open to players entering Grades 3-7 for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. 3rd & 4th Grade will be together and
5th – 7th Grade will be together. The league will be a shortened 6
game season that runs September 16 - October 3 (Games played
on Monday & Thursday nights). Practices will begin after Labor
Day. Teams will be formed at random. Space is limited. Volunteer
coaches are needed!!!

Youth Sports
Tennis Camp
This 4-day camp is designed for participants interested in learning
the game of tennis. This camp will teach the basic information and
skills needed to play the game of tennis. The camp is open to kids
entering grades 4-8. Each camp participant will need to bring their
own tennis racquet and water bottle. All rainout make-ups will be
on Friday of the camp week.

Little Kickers Soccer
This is an introductory soccer league for kid’s ages 4-5 (must be 4
years old by 9/5/13). The program is designed to teach kids the
basics about the game of soccer while having fun. Little Kickers
will play games on Thursday evenings starting at 5:45 PM and will
run from September 5 – October 3 (5 games). Game play will be
3 on 3 with 4 quarters of 8 minutes continuous clock with no goalie. Teams will consist of 5 or 6 players with plenty of playing time
for each player. Games are played at Ridge Pointe Park. Volunteer

All-Star Sports Camp
This half-day camp is perfect for any sports enthusiast. Both sessions
will be held at the Centennial Park Open Shelter. Each day participants will be engaged in activities such as: Baseball, Soccer, Flag
football, Frisbee Golf, Kickball, Capture the Flag, Basketball, Volleyball, Dodgeball, and all of your favorite physical education activities.

Festivals & Celebrations
Easter Egg Hunt
Waukee Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring the Annual Easter
Egg Hunt in Centennial Park. The event will be held Saturday,
March 31st at 10:00 AM rain or shine. There will be three age
groups: 4 years and under, 5-7, and 8-10.
4th of July Celebration
The July 4th parade will begin staging at 1:00 PM at the “old” Waukee Elementary School located at 5th and Locust; the parade will follow at 2:00 PM. The route will travel west on Locust to 7th Street,
turn north on 7th to Ashworth, east on Ashworth to 4th Street,
south on 4th Street to Northview Drive, east on Northview Drive
to Warrior Lane then south finishing at Centennial Park where the
Parks and Recreation Board will provide a variety of entertainment.
Blow-up activities and food vendors will follow the parade. A fabulous fire works display will begin after dusk approximately 9:30 PM.
Live music will be provided from 6 – 9:30 PM. Plan to celebrate
your freedom this 4th of July at Centennial Park.
Movies in the Park
New for 2013, Movies in the Park will be held at Centennial Park.
Movie dates will be Saturday, June 15th and Saturday, July 27th.
Movies will begin playing around 8:30 PM on both occasions. A
movie will be selected 3 weeks prior to the play date. Please check
the City of Waukee website at www.waukee.org for more information.
Waukee Fest A Festival on the Triangle – August 24th
Waukee Fest is a one day festival with activities and fun for all ages.
Several Waukee Community Groups participate in this annual event
that showcases the City of Waukee, Waukee Family YMCA, Waukee
Businesses, and the Waukee Community. Held down on the historic Waukee Triangle, attendants come early for the parade and stay
late for the live band and beverage garden. Kid’s activities (including inflatable and hands-on art projects), food, and entertainment
fill the day. Join us on August 24th, 2013 on the Waukee Triangle.

Adult Sports
Men’s Softball Leagues
Adult Men’s Softball Leagues fill up fast, sign your team up today!
We will be offering a Wednesday night league and can take up to
8 teams. Each season will include a 7-game schedule with the first
season starting April 17. There will be a total of 3 separate seasons
throughout the spring and summer of 2013.
Coed Softball Leagues
Adult Coed Softball Leagues will be offered at the Centennial Park
fields. League action will take place on Tuesday nights with games at
6:15 PM, 7:15 PM, 8:15 PM, and 9:15 PM. First season will start
June 4 and run through July 16. Second season will start July 30 and
run through September 10.
Coed Sand Volleyball League
The Coed Sand Volleyball League is played at the sand volleyball
courts in Centennial Park. League action will take place on Thursday nights starting at 6:00 PM. The league will start June 6th and
run through August 1st. This is a “call your own” league, so no
referee will be provided.
Waukee Fest Disc Golf Tournament
Join us for the 5th Annual Parks and Recreation Disc Golf Tournament at Centennial Park on Saturday, August 24th. Registration
information will be available on June 1st.
***NEW***Bags League – Wednesday Nights
New for 2013, we will be offering an 8-week bags league played on
Wednesday evenings at Centennial Park. The league can take up to
16 two-person teams. Registrants must sign up as a team, individuals will not be taken.
Waukee Fest Bags Tournament
The Parks & Recreation Department will host a Bags Tournament in
conjunction with Waukee Fest on Saturday, August 24th. Registration information will be available on June 1st.

Senior Activities
Pella Tulip Festival (May 2nd)
Come join us as we take a relaxing ride to Pella, Iowa to
enjoy the sites and sounds of the Pella Tulip Festival. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy all of the festivities at their own speed. We will enjoy an entire day of
fun and engaging activities and then return to Waukee.

Amana Colonies (July 9th)
Join the Waukee Parks and Recreation staff for a great day
at the Amana Colonies in Amana, IA. We will feast on an
old fashion home cooked style lunch at the Ox Yoke Inn.
After lunch we will have time to enjoy all of the unique
shops and stores along with the historic craftsmanship
of the buildings. Bring money along for shopping and
lunch. Transportation will be provided by the Parks and
Recreation Department. For more information please

Iowa State Fair (August 14th)
Do you like going to the Iowa State Fair, but do not like
to drive in all of the traffic? Let us do the work! We
will be providing transportation to the Iowa State Fair
on Wednesday, August 14th. We will leave from Waukee
Public Works at 8:00 AM and will leave the Iowa State
Fair at 3:00 PM. Pre-registration Required! Call Sheri at

Rental Facilities
Centennial Park Ball Field Rental
From March 26th – June 15th, no team or group will be allowed to
rent the ball fields. All teams must call in on the specified Monday’s
to reserve a field for practices. From June 16th on, the ball field
rates and procedures will go into effect. Please call our office for
field rental details.
Waukee Ball Field Practice Time
Any team wishing to reserve a ball field for practices may call in
every other Monday morning starting March 25th at 8:00 AM. The
phone calls will be taken in the order that they are received. Each
team may schedule up to 1 hour of practice time a week. Ball field
space is limited and teams are encouraged to share a field with other
teams. Waukee Parks & Recreation Department has 3 fields at Centennial Park and 4 fields at Warrior Park. Please keep in mind that
our fields will be used for Girls Recreation Softball games on weeknights and weekends. Only weekday reservations will be taken and
the weekends are first come - first serve. Reservations will only be
accepted by phone; walk in reservations will not be accepted. Be
prepared to be flexible with dates and times for practice.

SHELTER RENTAL POLICY
Weekend shelter rentals can be reserved six months in advance from
the reservation date. Weekday shelter rentals can also be reserved in
advance; however reservations are not accepted until after March 1st
for the months of March – July and after August 1st for the months
of August – February.
Ridge Pointe Park Pavilion
The Pavilion is available to rent anytime it is not being used by the
Parks and Recreation Department and it is open year round. (655
SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard) The Pavilion does NOT have Air Conditioning!

Centennial Park

Centennial Park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities.
The 33-acre park is equipped with 2 sand volleyball courts, 3 ball
diamonds, a 12-hole Disc Golf Course, 3 playgrounds, 1 basketball
court, 1 open shelter, 1 enclosed shelter, creek, and a covered bridge.
There is plenty of open green space for playing soccer or enjoying a
picnic with your family. Centennial Park has it all!
Warrior Park
1050 4th St.
Warrior Park is a 7-acre park that has 4 ball diamonds, 1 playground,
a specially engineered sledding hill, and plenty of open green space
to utilize.
Ridge Pointe Park
655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard
Ridge Pointe Park is a 21-acre park that serves as a flat open field for
uses such as soccer practice and open play. It also has 2 playgrounds,
a sand volleyball court, walking path, and backstop. The Ridge
Pointe Park Pavilion is available to rent year round and will seat up
to 50 people. The Pavilion has indoor restrooms, a sink, refrigerator,
microwave, tables, chairs, and heat.
Southfork Park
Located on Southbranch Drive
Southfork Park serves as a small neighborhood park. Southfork Park
is a 3-acre park with amenities that include a playground set, open
shelter, picnic tables, a grill, and benches.
Triangle Park
Intersection of Ashworth Drive and 6th Street
Triangle Park is a half-acre park nestled in the heart of downtown
Waukee. It contains a large gazebo and serves as host to the farmers
market on Wednesday nights during the summer months.
Songbird Park
Located behind 1070 1st Pl, East of Southview Drive
Songbird Park has been recognized as a “Backyard Wildlife Habitat” and certified as such by “The National Wildlife Federation”.
This 3-acre habitat is certified because of the owner’s conscientious
planning, landscaping and sustainable gardening, wildlife may find
quality habitat-food, water, cover and places to raise their young.
Roger Schlaefer, park caretaker, says that in the parks 15-year existence good progress has been made in providing wildlife habitat.
He would appreciate more volunteer help in planning even better
habitat and landscaping. If you have any good ideas, please contact

Windfield Park

Windfield Park is a five-acre neighborhood park that includes an
open shelter, picnic tables, two playground sets, a backstop, and an
open field area for recreation.
G.E. Davis Park
Intersection of Walnut Street and 7th Street
This park was dedicated to honor George Edward Davis. He served
the City of Waukee as mayor for 30 years.
Grant Park

2013 Sugar Creek Junior Golf Programs
All programs are coordinated and supervised by PGA Golf Professionals
with the assistance of local collegiate scholarship golfers.
2013 – Saturday Pee Wee Golf Lessons
For kids entering grades 1st and 2nd grades. 5:1 Student to Teacher Ratio. Juniors may attend more than 1 session. Topics to include: Full Swing
Basics, Putting, Chipping, Rules/Etiquette. Participants will receive a Saturday/Sunday Golf Card to play after 6:00 pm for $5. Adult supervision
required.

CAMPER DISCOUNTED PLAY PROGRAM!
At the completion of the camp, all Intermediate Junior Golf Participants
will be qualified to play golf for the discounted rate of $5.00 per 9-Hole
round. The discounted rate is in effect for the remainder of the 2013 golf
season, provided the junior golfer secures a tee time during the following
times:
Monday through Friday....................... Before 12:00 P.M.
Saturday & Sunday ..................................After 6:00 P.M.
Tee times are subject to course availability. Ages 11 and under will need
adult supervision for the Discounted Play Program. Ages 12 to14 may
play without adult supervision. Intermediate Junior Golf online registration will begin the first week in March through the Waukee Park and Rec

Women’s Spring Get Golf Ready
Wednesdays in May 7:00-8:30pm
Get Golf Ready is designed to teach everything you’ll need to play golf in
just a few lessons. Sarah Bidney, PGA Teaching Professional will show you
that there are lots of ways to play by combining fun, friends and fitness.
Each session will focus on the various golf skills you will use while playing.
In addition to learning the basics, you will be guided onto the golf course to
put your skills into action in a casual, friendly setting. Bring yourself, clubs
if you have them, a desire to have fun and perhaps a few friends to enjoy the
great outdoors. Register at the Sugar Creek Golf Course Clubhouse
Intermediate Junior Golf Camps (Ages 8-14)
The Intermediate Junior Golf Program is geared toward students that have
some golf experience or others that have attended our camps before. The
12 hours of instruction cover golf rules, etiquette and course management
along with 6 basic golf skills – putting, chipping, pitching, fairway irons,
woods, and sand play. Experienced P.G.A. Instructors will coordinate the
lessons to include fun contests and golf skills competitions. The week concludes with our popular Iowa PGA Drive, Chip and Putt Competition. In
addition, all participants will receive a junior golf tee gift.
Intermediate sessions will be capped at 40 juniors. (Student to instructor
ratio not to exceed 6:1)
