Geraldine Xmas Parade

The date is set for Friday December 11, starting
at 7pm at the Hislop/Talbot Streets corner,
travelling along Talbot Street to Peel Street and
looping back to Hislop Street.
Prizes are awarded for the best floats- these
are: Most Enterprising, Best Family Focus and
Best Christmas Spirit. The committee reports a
great response so far from a wide cross-section
of community groups, schools and businesses
and more last minute entrants are expected.
Many of the floats and entertainment are new
entries and the committee also hopes to have
everyone who entered into the spirit of this
seasonal celebration last year back again this
time around. The committee is encouraging
those who have not yet entered a float to get a
Float Registration Form from the iSITE Visitor
Centre in Geraldine or Kelly at Go Geraldine
on 03 693 8587 as soon as possible to confirm
a position in the parade as entries close on
November 30. Those who have forms are
requested to drop them into Merran Blake at
Joosh on Talbot Street, Geraldine.

The fun starts prior to the parade when at 6pm on the Village Green popular magician
Of course, no parade would be
complete without the jolly rotund
fellow in his red, fur trimmed getup spreading festive cheer and
bonhommie and keeping with
tradition, Geraldine’s parade will
be sporting Father Christmas in all
his glory. The kids will be able to
see him up close, when after the
parade he’ll be conducting a lolly
scramble on the Village Green.
Following the Parade and the
8.15pm prize giving for the winning
floats, there’ll be more music and
dancers on the Village Green.

Russel Hendry will give a performance sure to entrance the young ones; there’ll also be
face painting going on to deck the kids out in fanciful festive looks. A samba band from the
Christchurch School of Music will have all the floats moving to an enticing drumming beat
and a pipe band bringing the much-loved and traditional skirl of the pipes will add to the
rousing music accompanying the parade and adding festive flair to the fun.

Following a hugely successful revival last year,
despite a downpour, the Geraldine Christmas
Parade has definitely made its mark on the
calendar as an annual event. To this end, the
Geraldine Christmas Parade Committee has
been busy for the past three months to get this
years’ parade on the road.

Lolly scramble on Village Green with Father Christmas, then a performance by the
Geraldine Cheer Dance Stars.
