S c a r b o ro Su r f L i f e S a v i n g C l u b Club Newsletter Edition 448 5 May 2016 Presidents Message Notes from last Sunday’s Q&A For those that weren’t present last Sunday, I confirmed that we’ve signed the Surrender of Lease document that will result in us vacating the club rooms, moving to the temporary compound at the northern end of the beach and leading to the eventual demolition of the old building. Important Dates 7 May Annual Dinner 8 May Club Swim 15 May Club Swim IRB Series Round 2 Pool Rescue Series 22 May Club Swim 29 May Club Swim 10 June The timeline as known is Commence construction of temporary accommodation – 14th of May th Available for us to start moving in – 28 of May th Final date for us to have moved – 10 of June Projected date of new facilities – Early 2018 We had a discussion around how the club will operate during the period of our location in the compound. Some of the points we covered Access from the north to the south will be compromised during the build phase. Road passage will be possible at the back of beach and the beach itself will be clear. The construction zone for the pool, beach hub ( the club ) and Sunset Hill ( northern playground ) will be boarded off. This will possibly change beach goers habits and affect where patrols are mounted next season. We will run lifesaving operations from the compound, those assets like IRBs, Jet ski, boards, tubes and the like will be stored in the compound. Club activities including Juniors will run from the compound and junior gear will be stored there. We will have fixed swim cans at that end of the beach. After club activities, like sausage sizzles will be conducted from the compound and the surrounds. Last Day of Building 24 June Club AGM Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club PO BOX 79 Scarborough WA 6922 Ph: (08) 9341 1011 Jessica.Bunford@scarboro.com.au Presidents Message Competition equipment will need to be stored at home. Club competition gear stored at home by members will need to be documented and records lodged with the club Limited storage may be available for competition gear in the compound or at extra locally located containers at places yet to be confirmed A commercially run café housed in a specially modified container and serving coffee, drinks and food will operate to the north, part of by not within the compound. We will utilise the public toilet block nearby. Unfortunately, hot showers are not a feature. We are exploring options for Friday night social gatherings At present we’ve negotiated a limited reciprocal gym arrangement with City of Perth who are honouring the ac cess we gave to their elite surf squad over the last two years. At this stage this is restricted to boat rowers and their coaches/sweeps. Through personal contacts ski paddlers have access to a gym at a football club. At present other club members will need to use a gym in their local area. We are working on a possible reduced rate membership with Selby Gym. Some gym gear, probably free weights and some ergos will be housed at the northern compound and we envisage running some boot camp style training sessions through the year We are mindful of the reduction in facilities available to members and will look at the current fee structure however while healthy we need to ensure the club’s financial position remains strong for the inevitable impact of fit out of the new building Current concept plans and the developing detail plans are currently considered confidential by the MRA and the City. We are in discussion with the development team to have a briefing for the membership as soon as possible Annual Dinner For those attending the Annual Dinner this Saturday, I’m sure we’ll have a great time. I’m too ‘square’ but for those young people going to the modern music(!) recital GTM ( Groove the Moo, I’m told ) I hope you have a ‘swinging’ time. Is that like that Glastonbury Festival where mud wrestling is on the program as well? If so, wrestle well and wrestle fairly.
