offers an impeccable quality of life.

T
he City of Lone Tree, which was incorporated in
1995, is known as the gateway to Colorado’s burgeoning
Douglas County. Only 10 square miles in size, this quaint
and family-friendly city is home to a little more than 11,000
residents with a median age of 39. “Lone Tree is a complete
day out, with great recreational facilities, trails, unique retail
stores, upscale restaurants and family-friendly eateries,” says
Tanya Czerniakowski, special events coordinator at the City
of Lone Tree. “The city’s motto is ‘It’s a great day to be in
Lone Tree,’ which is evident in the number of free programs
and events we schedule throughout the year.”
While you’re out having your great day in Lone Tree, be sure to experience the city’s signature annual events – as well as some of the new activities – that are now being planned
for 2012. Here are some of our favorites.

Play at
Pradera
The premier Club at Pradera offers
top-notch golf and a welcoming atmosphere
where community is built.
In addition to the award-winning Jim Engh-designed
golf course, The Club at Pradera also features a clubhouse that holds countless
activities for members of all ages. “From family movie nights and kids’ bingo to
concerts on the driving range and formal dining, Pradera offers something for
everyone,” says Chip Hierlihy, PGA general manager at The Club at Pradera.
“Pradera even has its own signature beer, brewed specifically for the club by The
12 So u th D en v er Li fe s t y le s | s p r i n g 2012
Fort Collins Brewery. The Pradera Wine Club is another truly unique way for members to get the most
out of their club experience.”
The informal and relaxing clubhouse, designed
by award-winning Marsh & Associates, has become the social hub of the neighborhood. Here, you
can mingle with many of the club’s 500 members.
It features intimate indoor and outdoor hearths,
decks and patios, as well as the use of natural,
rustic materials reminiscent of grand mountain
lodges. As such, the clubhouse blends well with
the surrounding course landscape. Dining options
include fine dining and a romantic atmosphere at
either the Main Dining Room (with both indoor
and outdoor seating) or at Mt. Elbert Room. The
casual grill, Long’s Peak Grill, is home to the main
club bar, a grill menu and a sports-bar theme.
“On any given night, passers through may find a
dining room booked with fine dining reservations
or diners attending our seasonal Knife & Cork dinner, a grill filled with happy golfers just completing
their round, an informal dining room packed with
families playing a raucous game of bingo, or a fitness center that’s buzzing with activities like kids’
yoga,” Hierlihy says. “The clubhouse design lends
itself well to versatility with each space being utilized in a variety of ways.”
The golf course at The Club at Pradera
features a Colorado prairie setting coupled
with attributes typically found on Ireland’s
courses. Engh took into account the natural terrain when designing this course by
sculpting the trees, fairways and greens
alongside the native grasses and rolling elevation changes. “Jim Engh Design has been
the recipient of some of the golf industry’s
highest awards,” Hierlihy says. “The architect’s ability to allow the land to lead the
course design was a natural fit for Pradera. The site’s beautiful and unique location
lent itself well to Engh’s Irish-Modern inspiration. The course looks, plays and feels
different than most local courses, and it’s
getting better each year.”
While the golf course doesn’t have a
signature hole, No. 16 is by far the most
awe-inspiring. “This hole’s champion tee
includes an outstanding view of the Rocky
Mountains and features a monument to
help players identify the fourteeners that
can be seen from this vista,” Hierlihy
says. “At 600 yards long, this hole possesses a huge fairway, pot bunkers in your
landing area and a green that you may or
may not actually be able to see from the
fairway. It’s a nice par-five hole that most
golfers will find challenging but all will
agree is stunning.”
Meanwhile, hole No. 4 proves to be the
most challenging on the course. It measures 456 yards from the back tee and begins with an uphill tee shot. As if that isn’t
enough, the hole also offers challenges like
deep greenside bunkers and an elevated,
sloping green.
The Club at Pradera also offers Junior
Programs that begin in late May and run
through early August. This is where juniors
– grouped by age and ability – enjoy 45 min-
utes of golf instruction followed by either
three-hole, five-hole or nine-hole league
play. In addition to the Junior Programs,
the club also offers several annual events
that are great for getting the family together. Examples include the Daddy/Daughter
Dance, Concert on the Green, New Year’s
Eve celebration, Easter and Mother’s Day
brunches, a Santa breakfast and much
more. “As a family-oriented club and community, The Club at Pradera focuses a great
deal of attention toward family events, devoting at least one day each week to familycentered activities,” Hierlihy adds.
The Club at Pradera is private and only
available to members and their guests, but
residents of Pradera can become a Sport
Member with the initiation fee of $8,000
waived if they join within 60 days of closing on a home. The club also offers cash
incentive discounts off of the full golf
membership deposit. “We offer no interest financing for up to 48 months for our
full golf membership with a percent down
to get the membership activated,” Hierlihy
says. “In short, we make membership at
the club as easy a transition as possible.”
With such great golf offerings, activities galore and an upscale yet relaxing
environment, The Club at Pradera is just
one more way that the Pradera community fosters lasting friendships and an
amazing lifestyle. Going out to play never
felt like so much fun!

W
hen it comes to building a custom home to your exact specifications, opportunities abound at both Heritage Hills (with its
city-close atmosphere) and at Pradera (with its country-quiet
feel). Just ask Bob and Erin, a married couple of 13 years
who built the home of their dreams in Heritage Hills. The couple, who now
have three boys ages 10, 8 and 5, previously lived in Wash Park before finding
everything they wanted at Heritage Hills. When they first moved into the community 10 years ago, they purchased a semi-custom home by Genesee Homes.
However, as their family grew, they looked to build a custom home that satisfied
PREVIOUS SPREAD: “I love to cook, and this is the kitchen of my dreams,” Erin
says. It features two islands topped with Carerra marble, Cambrian Black
antiqued granite and distressed Walnut butcher blocks; white custom
cabinetry with crown molding; cream-colored subway-tile backsplash; a
temperature-controlled wine closet off of the butler’s pantry; a built-in espresso
maker; a Wolf double oven with griddle top; a Sub-Zero 36-inch refrigerator
and freezer; two Bosch dishwashers; and a Sharp microwave drawer.
THIS SPREAD: The great room is a warm and cozy area for the family to gather
with its two-story stone fireplace (which was important to Bob’s mountain
sensibility) combined with royal stripes and paisley prints (for Erin’s love of
French Country). “The Ralph Lauren black, red and green hutch fits perfectly
on the wall and is my favorite piece,” Erin says. “Bob bought it for me as a
gift.” The mudroom performs double duty as Erin’s office for her Posh Paper
stationery business and as storage space for the kids’ coats,
shoes, backpacks and sports jerseys.
s pri n g 2012 | So uth Denver Li fe st y le s 25
In keeping with Erin’s love of French Country interior design, she included
toile and buffalo-check patterns in the master bedroom as well as buffalocheck covered headboards in one of the boy’s bedrooms. The dining room,
meanwhile, features stone arches and hand-scraped Walnut-stained Hickory
wood floors with brick inlay where a rug would typically go. Both the stone
and the brick inlay play to Bob’s rustic-mountain aesthetic.
26 South Denver Lifest yles | spring 2012
their every need and desire. They found it with
Ades Design Builders, one of four custom builders
at Heritage Hills.
“We love the neighborhood,” Erin says. “Once
you live here, you don’t want to leave. Heritage
Hills is centrally located, and is convenient to
I-25 and the light rail. We knew families who
lived here, and we liked the demographic and the
proximity to retail at Park Meadows. When we
built our home, it was our dream. We were able
to build from the ground up, and we started with
blueprints and picked out everything.”
The family moved into their five-bedroom,
six-bathroom home at Heritage Hills in July,
2009. The open floor plan includes a wine cellar,
a convenient upstairs laundry room, a workout
room, and a large deck that wraps around the
back of the home. Bob, who wanted a study with
amazing views, was able to get exactly that with
his custom builder. Bob and Erin also blended his
love of the Beaver Creek rustic-mountain style
with her love of French Country, resulting in
interior design that is truly their own. “We love
our time spent in the mountains so much that we
wanted to capture that experience in our Lone
Tree home,” Bob says. -Misty Milioto

Feeling
Fine
and
Fit
An active lifestyle leads to health and happiness
for body, mind and soul.
With fitness trends ranging from boot camp classes and Zumba to spin classes and
outdoor yoga, there are plenty of ways to get (and stay) fit this summer. Make it a
point to get out and get active, and you’ll be feeling fine in no time. South Denver
Lifestyles spoke with several area gyms and community recreational facilities to find
the best that the area has to offer.
Generation Fitness, which opened in Castle Rock in 2009 and in Parker in
2010, focuses on boot camp classes and personal training (including sport-specific
training). Residents of Douglas County even voted Generation Fitness as the No.
1 fitness company in the county for the past two years. In order to keep things
interesting, each boot camp class – which includes about 15 to 30 participants –
features a different workout routine with a focus on proper form and technique.
“There’s truly nothing like our boot camps in the fitness industry because we
combine so many different disciplines, including boxing, resistance training, agility
and cardio,” says Josh Stanton, founder and president of Generation Fitness.
Another local fitness studio, Orangetheory® Fitness, focuses on group personal
training (maximum class size is 24) using an interval fitness concept that has been
gaining in popularity. The nearly 3,000-square-foot studio in Highlands Ranch
offers 60-minute workouts, broken out into cardiovascular and strength training
portions using treadmills, Indo-Rower machines, TRX Suspension Training and
free weights. The workouts, which vary from class to class, are based on the science
of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption. Participants wear heart-rate monitors
throughout the workout, aiming to perform within the anaerobic “orange zone” at

Meanwhile, Lone Tree Athletic
Club is an upscale, full-service, private
athletic club that opened in October.
General Manager, Julie Leins, also has
noticed the trend of small group training
with personal trainers, as well as more
mind-body related classes. “We have
about 20 instructors/trainers, and our
typical class size is anywhere from 10 to
30 people,” she says. “Our most popular
classes are total body conditioning with
weights, Zumba, yoga and cycling.”
The Town of Parker Parks and
Recreation Department , as well as
the Town of Castle Rock’s Fitness
and Wellness Department , also
have noticed that Zumba, cycling and
yoga – as well as senior classes – are
all hot trends in fitness right now. The
Town of Parker, which recently won
the 2011 National Gold Medal from
the National Recreation and Park
Association, recently introduced the
TRX Suspension Training program
and Yoga in the Park on Wednesday
evenings. And, the Town of Castle
Rock recently introduced 20 new
Star Trac NXT Spin Bikes, Yoga in
the Park on Sunday mornings, and
outdoor boot camp classes in June
and July.

a s mot her n at ur e in t ended.
When it comes to kids, simple really is best. Like playing leapfrog in endless, grassy open fields. Underwater handstands
at the neighborhood pool. Pitching a tent for sleepovers in your own big backyard. At Pradera, kids’ imaginations have plenty of
room to run—and grow, as well, at acclaimed Douglas County schools. Childhood feels good here. And best of all, with a private
golf course, tennis courts and all the fun family activities at the neighborhood club, grownups get to enjoy it all over again too.
