In the East Block of a distant city, a relentless series of homicides breaks the silence. Only one person seems to be linked to the trail of dead bodies. His name is Kevin Grace, an anonymous crime news photo reporter. Suddenly his nights are haunted by vivid nightmares, where snap-shots are showing the faces of victims in unreal scenarios. Victims that are going to be found dead by suicide the day after. Shortly Kevin understands that those deaths are not suicides, but homicides. The only clues to the answer are inside his dream state. Kevin, helped by his best friend Leonard and his enig- matic soul mate Verity, decides to start his own inves- tigation instead of embracing madness. However, the walk through the trail of blood brings him into unexpected troubles, forcing him to sneak past the radar of Detective Minardi, the long arm of the law, and JB Magenia, the most dreadful criminal of the East Block. The silent and filthy suburbs once called home are soon changed into a theater of death, where the line between dreams and reality is barely perceptible. With no safe place to go and nobody to trust, Kevin walks on the razor’s edge. He knows that only one piece of the puzzle can save him: the CIDE letters. THE SERIE Inspired by the most recent and famous Hollywood graphic novels, like the ones of Zack Snyder and Frank Miller, in combination with the well known Japanese Manga and with the goal of creating an in- novative visual experience, the TV show is based on the Comic 2.0 of the same name. Starting with the classic noir plot, in a sequence of inspired and original twists and dramatic turns of events, it will explore the obscure alleys of the East Block and the mournful soul of the main character. PRODUCTION MEMOS The Cide is the result of the union of various professionists coming from different artistic fields. Comics, Cinema, Special Effects, Music. Starting from the Graphic Novel designed in the 2007 by Daniele Berretta and Cristiano Malacrino, we realized this first episode of the serie relying on the collaboration of different organizations that are betting with us on the activity: D-Vision Italia for the technical material, Frame by Frame for the post-production and counting on the high level support of Daniele Bellucci (Coordinator of several movies and TV shows and president of the A.P.A.I. organization) that made possible the creation of a professional and high quality work infrastructure. The cast is commercial and full of young talents, but leaves free some key roles that are going to be developed in the next episodes. Essential is the role of the VFX (approximately 93% of the scenes) realized by Videns Pictures that is also the associate producer of the project. Thanks to this union of intentions it was possible to reduce drastically the realization costs, allowing the production value to reach a 1 : 5 proportion. The multiethnic setting and the undefined place represented by the city of Novagrad (where the events of our protagonists take place), wink to any possible co-production for the development of the entire serie. PRODUCTION MEMOS The entire serie will have 7-10 episodes (depending on the final format that is not yet defined). The sketch for the next episodes and the theme for a possible second season, plus various ideas and spin-off are already written. The result of all this is an innovative and engaging mix that makes The Cide a charming, unique for its kind, strongly international product, where the know - how of expert professionists joins the enthusiasm of a young production, making possible a low cost result that mantains high standards of quality. THE COMIC 2.0 Conceived in the year 2007 and translated in four different languages, The Cide has been released on the web in the late 2008, rapidly collecting the approval of medias, like online newspapers and public TV channels (Corriere della sera, L’espresso, GQ, Rai 4), that promptly emphasized the project with articles and interviews. In the late 2009, with the victory of an American Design Award, The Cide became internationally known and reached 40.000 readers. To this day, by virtue of its uncommon graphic identity, The Cide is identified as an unique web experience, bringing together the opinions of users and critics. Thanks to the digital animations, its distinct interactive elements (the user can browse through the pages like in a real comic), a characteristic texture and use of colors, the project distinguished itself for his unique image process and visual identity THE CHARACTERS Kevin Grace / Marco Rossetti Insecure, submissive and vaguely inquiring. Kevin acts like somebody that doesn’t want to be acknowledged as troublemaker or either bring any kind of attention to himself. Used to live on his own and at the mercy of events, he still keeps a stable emotional balance. He’s aloof from everything and everybody, except Verity and Leonard, his only beloved ones. Ispettore Minardi / Andrea Sartoretti A blunt and rude way of being. Minardi is aware of being unsociable and doesn’t do anything to hide it. He tends to correct whoever does mistakes or tries to contradict him. He’s bright and always speaks in a direct way. Minardi is a laconic character that always studies carefully the circumstances with a restless and attempt gaze. Leonard Rivera / Giulio Cristini Kevin’s best friend. He’s extroverted and arrogant with everybody. Leonard uses vulgarity to help his defusing attitude and self-confidence. He’s inclined to underrate everything and everybody, as well as relationships with extremely dangerous people. Verity Rotmork / Margherita Laterza Kevin’s flame. Verity has a very firm nature and, from time to time, can be very passionate. She has a quite and suggestive persona. Her movements are so distinctive to the point of feeling exceedingly studied. The impenetrable darkness of her past, an intense and sharp tone of voice, joined with the ability of spearing the soul of her interlocutors are among Verity’s distinctive traits. Eva Sillic / Chiara Mastalli A cheerful and simple girl, Eva works in the same editorial office as Kevin. She promptly transmits the idea of of being easy and natural. It’s not the objective beauty that makes every individual aware of Eva’s presence, but the self-confidence and the inner energies shining behind her smiles. Gustav Keller / Niccolò Senni Gustav is a committed reporter, able to go beyond any limit for the sake of truth. His curiosity and willing to know clearly influence his movements and language. If it doesn’t fit with the goals, it doesn’t need Gustav’s attention. He’s always anxious to go straight to the point. Astrid Klari / Claudia Salvatore Quite and analytical, she has a direct and sharp gaze. She is not interested in the power of seduction, limiting herself to the mere study of human beings (possibly dead) and items to understand their hidden history. She has a pragmatic way of being and very harsh body and verbal language. Robert Fabris / Antonio Covatta The chief of “24/7”. He’s good-nature and pragmatic at the same time. Rob is one of the few characters that looks like conducting a normal life. The only arbitrary agreement that he did in his life was to accept money from a secret backer and achieve his dream: be the boss of a newsroom. The price of his dream? Hire a guy called Kevin Grace and give him a pliable job with the minimum salary. Dimitar Novikov / Fabrizio Bordignon His aspect fully shows his personality. Contrary to Fabien he has a quiet and analytical behaviour. Dimitar observes every situation in cold blood and he’s inclined to reduce every effort to the smallest. Although his couldn’t-give-a-damn attitude he considers people measuring their value as if they were mere objects. Fabien Doroshenko / Federico Palmieri JB’s hound dog. He is deceitful and bully. Fabien is meek with the strong, but loves to humiliate the weak. Attentive when he moves, gets betrayed by his own body language, that clearly shows nervousness and latent violence. Violence that comes out every time he stumbles on harmless people. JB Magenia The boss of the Mob in the East Block. Behind his mysterious grim and friendly manners, JB hides his cruel and bloody nature. In spite of his dark reputation he has a personality. Distinguished by extravagant tastes, JB loves to be surrounded by people and bizarre items. He ascended the chain of command with slyness and always covering his real intentions. In cold blood plotter, JB is able to naturally change his smile into a mask of death. Dottor Stanford Stanford is a man capable of transmitting a crushing presence. He is a very steady person and in spite of his lack of loquacity, Stanford has a linear and refined word stock. He is able to move with gracefulness and calmness and to look through the soul of all his interlocutors. Padre Donovan Humble, elegant and quite. Donovan loves to show his loquacity colored by a peculiar noble language. Thanks to his oratorical skills, Donovan managed to build a solid non violent leader position that guides followers using the skills of a clever talker.
