This effort, which begins in Kindergarten, is designed to provide success for all students by establishing a specific individualized post-secondary education and career path for each of them. Results are organized on a scale of 1 to 99. This scale should not be construed as a percentage. Results are meant to highlight areas of strength and areas that need support. 1. VVSD has 200 staff members including 18 managers and 19 assistant managers all of whom hold Illinois Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation Certification. All 18 managers are also School Nutrition Association Certified. VVSD Director of Nutrition Services is a Registered Dietician and is a School Nutrition Specialist. All breakfast and lunch menus feature student-approved healthy options including a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grain-rich items, non fat milk and lower sodium foods. Projects have included kindergarten additions and remodeling at 11 schools, security entrance enclosures and alarm notification at all schools, new chillers and boilers at various schools, accessible toilet remodeling for students with disabilities, roof and parking lot replacements, locker replacements, lighting projects using LED technology, and auditorium improvements at both high schools. Valley View is proud to have first class facilities that support the learning environment throughout the district. WE CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT • VVSD’s Comprehensive Energy and Environmental Management Initiative has saved the district hundreds of thousands of dollars this decade through energy-saving and environmentally conscious programs including a computer-operated automated HVAC control system for all buildings. • VVSD’s all-encompassing recycling program in all of our buildings includes the recycling of paper, plastics and metal with over 30 large recycling container pick-ups weekly. We have a unique partnership with a regional supplier of Styrofoam that allows us to recycle 600,000 lunch trays every year. • Eight schools have created their own edible gardens that are not only used as environmental classrooms but also help feed fresh fruit and vegetables to hundreds of students every year. www.vvsd.org Page 18 • The VVSD Maintenance Department routinely recycles metal taken from disposed furniture and equipment. The New View: Path to Prosperity We Care About Our Community and Our Community Cares About Us. During the 2014-15 School Year our students, staff and families raised more than $100,000 for local, regional, national and international charitable causes. On many evenings and most weekends, our facilities are utilized by a variety of community groups, including the Bolingbrook Park District and Romeoville Recreation Department as well as up to a dozen churches that host worship services. Annually VVSD opens its doors to the community for more than 28,000 hours.
