Trip Brochure - Playa Viva 2013 new
PLAYA VIVA Generation Conservation Excursion, February 2013 Join Generation Conservation and visit Playa Viva, a sustainable boutique hotel in the Mexican state of Guerrero. Release hundreds of baby sea turtles into the ocean, tour local organic farms, and experience the stunning beauty of the tropical pacific coastline. Playa Viva is funded by Verde Ventures, an investment fund managed by Conservation International (CI) to provide support for small and medium-sized businesses that contribute to healthy ecosystems and human well-being. Verde Ventures’ support has enabled CI’s partners to help protect and restore more than 761,106 acres of important lands. Verde Ventures business partners also employ more than 15,000 local people in 13 countries. The Generation Conservation group will support Playa Viva’s La Tortuga Viva turtle sanctuary by aiding in patrolling the beach to protect Olive Ridley turtles as they lay hundreds of eggs in the sand. The group will also have the privilege of releasing hundreds of baby turtles into the sea every morning. In addition to turtle patrols and releases, trip participants will journey into the mountains via 4x4 ATVs to visit an organic coffee and chocolate farm where they will explore a 30-foot waterfall. The group will also have opportunities to deliver supplies to a local school, visit a number of local sustainable businesses, and hike through a mangrove forest. Between events, everyone will have plenty of time to swim, sample the fantastic local cuisine, and watch mother whales and calves breaching in the tropical ocean while enjoying one of Playa Viva’s famous basil margaritas. Other activities can also be arranged such as yoga, Mexican cooking classes, an archeology tour, fishing, and snorkeling. The local archeological site, called Soledad de Maciel or “La Chiole”, contains Aztec jewelry, artifacts, and ruins including the largest ball court uncovered in Mexico.
