WHY SHOULD I STAY AT THE
HOST HOTEL?
In order to provide great rates
to attendees and to keep the costs
of the meeting down, FNS must
agree to fulfill a certain number
of sleeping rooms at the host hotel during the meeting dates. If
meeting attendees book rooms at
hotels other than the meeting hotel
or outside the room block and the
associations are not able to fill a
high percentage of the contracted
sleeping rooms, penalties and
special attrition charges for rooms
not filled become the financial responsibility of the organizations.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME
AS AN ATTENDEE?
If more meeting attendees
choose to stay at alternative hotels or book rooms at rates that
are outside the block, this forces
FNS to book less sleeping rooms
while utilizing the same amount
of meeting space. This increases
the costs of operating the event
resulting in higher attendance
fees. We’re working hard to keep
the costs down and we appreciate
your help!

FRIDAY
KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
DIGITAL DENTISTRY... ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES
Lee Culp, CDT & Lida Swann, DDS
FRIDAY 8:15 – 10:15 AM | LOCATION: CAMELLIA A
Throughout the years, restorative trends and techniques have come and gone. Some material developments have transformed the face of aesthetic dentistry, while other initial concepts
have phased out and died. Yet the concept of digital dentistry is one that started out small, and
has progressively increased in momentum until its boundaries appear to have become endless.
As dentistry evolves into the digital world, the successful incorporation of computerization and
new technology will continue to provide more efficient methods of communication and fabrication while at the same time retaining the individual creativity and artistry of the skilled dental
technician, and the utilization of new technology will enhance the close cooperation and working
relationship of the dentist/technician team. The evolution from hand waxing to digital design, using the diagnostic wax-up and provisional restorations, and their digital replicas to guide us in the creation of CAD/CAM
restorations will be presented. The most exciting factor surrounding these technologies is not, however, only
in the potential applications of these technologies that are being hypothesized by dental professionals. The
excitement truly lies in the fact that these “hypothetical” applications are currently being developed today, and
some are even in the final stages of development. These advancements are not, therefore, something that
will “eventually” emerge in the market, they are realities that are currently being released to further revolutionize the quality of dental care that is being delivered in modern restorative dentistry. This exciting multimedia
presentation will offer participants a unique insight into the replication of natural esthetics while focusing on
proper function and occlusal harmony using CAD/CAM technology. Participants will learn a format for achieving that often-elusive goal of pleasing the patient, dentist, and ceramist with creative ceramic artistry and
predictable restorative dentistry.
This presentation is aimed to both technicians and their dentist clients. Aspects to be covered include
adapting conventional techniques to CAD/CAM technology; dentist/technician communication; intra-oral
scanning; digital implant, planning, surgical guides, final restorations; restorative material choices; esthetics
and function; diagnostic treatment planning; digital diagnostic wax up; digital temporary restorations; milling
vs. printing; and cultural vs. technological changes.
LEE CULP, CDT is the CEO of Sculpture Studios, a dental laboratory, education, research, and product
development center for new and innovative digital dental technologies and their applied applications to
diagnostic, restorative, and surgical dentistry. He is the 2007 recipient of the Kenneth Rudd Award from
the American Society of Prosthodontics, the 2007 recipient of the AACD Presidents Award for Excellence
in Dental Education, the 2003 recipient of the National Association of Dental Laboratories, Excellence in
Education Award, and the 2013 American College of Prosthodontics-Dental Technician Leadership Award,
as well as the 2014 Spectrum Publishing-Lifetime Achievement award. Lee has also been appointed adjunct
professor the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, Graduate Prosthetics Department. He is a
leading resource/inventor for many of the materials, products, and techniques used in dentistry today and
holds numerous patents for his ideas and products. Lee writes many articles per year. His writing, photography, and teaching style have brought him international recognition as one of today’s most exciting lecturers
and innovative artisans in the specialty of digital dentistry, dental ceramics and functional esthetics.
DR. LIDA SWANN received her DDS in 2002 from Colegio Universitario Colombiano and her Master in
Prosthodontics from the University of North Carolina in 2014. She is currently the UNC Dental Implant Fellow where she focuses on implant research and applications of digital technology on implant placement and
restorative procedures. Dr. Swann was the Clinical Trainer at D4D Technologies, where she was responsible for clinical education and documentation of all clinical procedures necessary for success with the E4D
system. Her educational focus is on proper tooth preparation and tissue management for CAD/CAM restorations, as well as materials science with regard to cementation and restorative materials options. In addition
to those responsibilities, she was also Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Dentistry where she focused
on utilization of various intraoral scanners in predoctoral education at their advanced technology clinic. Dr.
Swann lectures nationally and internationally on CAD/CAM technology and other topics related to restorative dentistry. She has presented lectures for several dental associations like the American Prosthodontic
Society and The American College of Prosthodontics. She has also written several journal articles detailing
proper clinical techniques for clinical implementation of digital dentistry.

MORNING SEMINARS
KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
RESTORATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR THE FULLY
EDENTULOUS IMPLANT PATIENT
David Avery, AAS, CDT
FRIDAY 8:15 – 10:15 AM | LOCATION: AZALEA C-D
The extensive “direct-to-the-public” marketing of the “teeth-in-a-day” concept has sparked a
landslide of interest and demand from patients. This course is designed to bring an understanding of the techniques required of the restorative team from pre-surgical planning to delivery of the
appropriate restoration to meet the physiological needs of each specific patient. The discussion
will include an overview of current digital diagnostic and fabrication technologies.
At the conclusion of this program, the participant should understand the protocol for working a
case up for pre-surgical diagnosis and planning; be aware of the different prosthetic options available to meet a variety of vertical space scenarios; understand the clinical techniques required to
impress, provide appropriate records, try-in and deliver the immediate prosthesis; understand
the protocols required to complete both provisional and definitive restorations; have knowledge
of CAD/CAM fabrication services available for sub-structure fabrication; have knowledge of the
development and clinical value of Linear Occlusion; and understand the use and value of unique
resin technologies in the fabrication of this type of restoration.
DAVID AVERY, CDT received his AAS degree in Dental Laboratory Technology from Durham
Technical College in Durham, North Carolina in 1976. He actively teaches undergraduate and
post-graduate dental students at several universities.
Mr. Avery has published in numerous laboratory and clinical journals and has presented more
than 600 scientific programs for local, regional and national professional clinical, and laboratory
organizations, covering every aspect of dental laboratory technology and communication.

OSHA REQUIREMENTS, MUCH MORE THAN INFECTION CONTROL
Gary Morgan, CDT
FRIDAY 10:30 – 11:30 AM | LOCATION: AZALEA A-B
Infection control is usually the focus for all of a lab’s compliance efforts; however,
there is much much more that an employer must ensure is in place in the dental lab.
The failure to document and implement all of the other OHSA requirements can place
employers and employees at risk. This course will cover all of the required elements of a complete
lab safety program including important updates on recordkeeping and reporting of injuries and
illnesses.
GARY MORGAN, CDT is the Senior Consultant and Vice President with SafeLink Consulting,
Inc. Gary began lecturing on health and safety in 1989 and is an Authorized Trainer under
OSHA’s Outreach Program. Gary is also a certified DAMAS consultant and auditor. He is a Certified Dental Technician who, along with his wife Claudia, owned Morgan Dental Laboratory in
Austin, Texas from 1975 until 2007. Active in the Dental Laboratory Association of Texas, Gary
served on the Board of Directors for eight years and as President for both 1994 and 1995. As
Legislative and Legal Affairs Chairman for DLAT 1987-2008, Gary represented members before
governmental agencies, the State Board of Dental Examiners, and the Texas Legislature. Gary
was appointed by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners to serve on the Dental Laboratory
Certification Council from 2007-2013 and was elected Chairman in 2008. In 2008, NADL presented Gary with a Merit Award in Recognition of Contributions and Outstanding Service to the
Dental Laboratory Profession and in 2009 he was honored with the DLAT Hall of Fame Award.

AFTERNOON SEMINARS
A START TO FINISH GUIDE FOR FABRICATING
IMPLANT-RETAINED APPLIANCES
Jim Collis, CDT
FRIDAY 2:15 – 3:45 PM | LOCATION: AZALEA C
This lecture will guide participants through fabrication considerations for implantretained appliances related to: treatment planning, setting and trying the case, designing the bar on the laboratory software, milling the substructure, transferring the teeth to the
bar, waxing the case to final contour, and processing techniques. We will discuss steps to be
taken to facilitate efficient processing of cases with implant-retained substructures based on your
preferred processing technique (injection, pack, or pour).
The course will also introduce Shofu’s TRINIA™ as a metal-free alternative for implant-retained
appliances. TRINIA™ is a lightweight, biocompatible material that obtains its tremendous durability and resiliency from multi-directional, interlacing layers of fiberglass and resin. TRINIA™ can
be milled on most leading wet or dry milling systems.
JIM COLLIS, CDT has owned and operated Collis Prosthodontics Laboratory since 1980, specializing in a range of high-quality removable prosthodontic appliances, including full and partial
dentures, attachment cases, design and scanning of milled titanium hybrid bars (All-on-4), removable/crown & bridge, and custom laser welding. Jim received a degree in Dental Technology
from Triton College and had been a Certified Dental Technician for over thirty years.

DIGITAL DOESN’T JUST MEAN ZIRCONIA
Donnie Bridges, CDT
FRIDAY 2:15 – 3:45 PM | LOCATION: MAGNOLIA A
Innovations in digital dental technology, such as milling and 3D printing, have greatly expanded the range of products available through the digital workflow. Where labs
used to consider milled Zirconia crowns the extent of their digital restorations, options
now include products in every stage of a case from intraoral scan to final restoration. This clinic
will explain that “digital” now encompasses all products from digital models and PMMA temps
to custom abutments and full gold crowns. Labs will learn the benefits of incorporating products
such as completely digital PFMs produced with Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology. They
will also learn how to transform their current production processes to a completely digital workflow
and cross-train or reassign talented human resources to maximize production and output.
DONNIE BRIDGES, CDT is the Digital Sales Specialist for the Argen Corporation, traveling the
country to demonstrate how today’s digital solutions will benefit the dental laboratory’s workflow.
Donnie grew up in his family’s laboratory and has been certified in crown and bridge since 2002.
Donnie has served on the board of directors for the Mississippi Dental Laboratory Association
and served on Southeastern Conference of Dental Laboratories’ Visions Committee. In June of
2009, Donnie took the position of Territory Representative with Nobel Biocare. He was appointed
to Nobel Biocare’s North American Sales Advisory Board in 2012. He joined Argen Corporation

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
THRIVE DON’T JUST SURVIVE
Al Hodges, CDT
SATURDAY 8:30 – 11:15 AM | LOCATION: MAGNOLIA A
In consideration of our rapidly-changing industry, lab closures, and the middle ground shrinking,
I will share some of my favorite techniques, how I changed my business model from producing fast
and cheap crowns to higher end, and more complicated type cases. I will also share how I produce higher volume
with consistent quality while managing and planning my workload by the week rather than by the day.
AL HODGES, CDT earned his Associate’s Degree in Dental Technology from the Dental Laboratory School of
Orlando, FL in 1978. He began his career immediately, working with his father’s dental office and in-house laboratory, Hodges Dental Laboratory. After two years, Mr. Hodges branched out on his own, founding and operating
Highland Dental Arts in Waynesburg, KY for over 35 years. Mr. Hodges is also a CDT Member of the American

OSHA REQUIREMENTS, MUCH MORE THAN INFECTION CONTROL
Gary Morgan, CDT
SATURDAY 2:45 – 4:00 PM | LOCATION: AZALEA B
Infection control is usually the focus for all of a lab’s compliance efforts; however,
there is much much more that an employer must ensure is in place in the dental lab.
The failure to document and implement all of the other OHSA requirements can place
employers and employees at risk. This course will cover all of the required elements of a complete
lab safety program including important updates on recordkeeping and reporting of injuries and
illnesses.

IMPLANT LAB PROCESSES FOR THE REST OF US
Jimmy Stegall, BS, MBA
SATURDAY 2:45 – 4:30 PM | LOCATION: MAGNOLIA B
Some of our peers are simply amazed at what they are accomplishing in the “highend” of implant restorations. This program will focus on the trends, the procedures,
and the products for implant processes in today’s “everyday” dental laboratory. Restoration trends, workflow best practices, digital integration, clinical tips for customers, and more
will be presented in a fast-paced, informal style with the main purpose of sharing ideas that maximize efficiencies and profit. All items discussed can be easily integrated into any size lab and
attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the presentation via live surveys to see how we
all compare in the various aspects of implant prosthetics and digital integration.
In his thirty six years in dentistry, JIMMY STEGALL, BS, MBA has presented hundreds of programs to various dental societies, study groups, associations, and laboratory groups. He lectures
bi-weekly to undergrad and resident dental students at several universities and his programs are
constantly noted as “relaxed, non-biased yet informative”. Jimmy has published several articles
and has assisted in research projects on porcelain bonded crowns, resin bonded bridges, impression systems, implants, and porcelain laminate veneers.
