Raise the chassis to it's maximum clearance before the wheels leave the ground. Adjust the length of the front and rear upper arms so that the wheels are right angle to the ground. The camber angle adjustment can be moving the turnbuckle rod on the upper arms, clockwise or anti-clockwise. (We suggest use zero degree for the front and 1.5 negative degree for the rear.) Soft front suspension, more steering. REAR SHOCK ANGLE SETTING Soft Firm 1 2345 Adjust the length of front steering rod to change the toe angle. Making the tie rod longer will make the front tires become toe-in. Response will be slower and will over steer. Soft Making the tie rod shorter will make the front tires become toe-out. Response will be quicker and will under steer. 12 3 Firm Firm rear suspension, over steering. Soft rear suspension, under steering. CASTER ANGLE REAR WHEELBASE Adjust the front caster angle by changing the arm block "A" or "B" on the front lower arms. After you set the caster angle , you will also need to adjust the front upper arm position. The final caster also depends on the kick-up setting. Example:15 degree caster on C-hub + 7degree kick-up+"A" lower arm block =22 degree final caster. 15 degree caster on C-hub + 7degree kick-up+"B" lower arm block =20 degree final caster 15 degree on C hub A B A B 365mm 367.5mm 370mm 0 Adjust the wheelbase by using the spacers on either side of the rear uprights (at the bottom pin). IMPORTANT! Make equal adjustments on both left and right sides of the car. Shorter wheelbase less spacers in front of the rear upright. - increases rearward weight transfer during acceleration. - increases on-power traction. - quicker off-power steering into corners. - slight tendency to push on-power at corner exit. - increases steering response. - better on tighter, more technical tracks. 7 degree Caster angle Characteristics Less caster Increases off-power steering into a corner. Decreases on-power steering out of and in a corner. Decreases straight-line stability. More caster Decreases off-power steering into a corner. Increases on-power steering out of and in a corner. Increases straight-line stability. Longer wheelbase more spacers in front of the rear upright. - decreases off-power steering into sharp corners. - increases stability. - slower initial steering reaction (off-power). - improves on-power steering at corner exit. - better handling over bumps and ruts. - better on more open tracks with high-speed corners. - 24 - Jammin X1-CRT Set-Up Sheet Track Size Driver:_________________ Track:_______________/____________________ Air Temp:_____80F_____ Front Suspension 1 2 Traction Surface open High Medium Medium Medium Tight Low Bumpy Steering Ackerman Location 3 1 Shock Spring: _______Blue___________ 2 Shock Piston: Standard Drilled 5 Shock Length ( Center to Center) _______105.5mm______ Toe-IN: 6 1 2 3 _________ Toe-Out: 3 4 Shock Oil wt: ________50__________ Front Sway Bar Preload ________ mm Front Ride Height: _____________mm Sway Bar: Camber: 2mm 2.3mm 2.5mm Neg: ______ Pos: ______ Caster Block: A/A ______ B/B ______ Wheel A B 1 2 3 REBOUND STOP A B Notes:____________________________________________ _____________________________________________ Rear Suspension Shock Spring: _______Blue___________ Shock Piston: Standard 1 2 3 4 5 Drilled 6 Shock Oil wt: ________50__________ 7 8 Shock Length ( Center to Center) _______123.5mm______ 9 10 4 Rear Ride Height: ________mm Sway Bar: Camber: 2.3mm ______ 2.5mm None 2 1 1 2.8mm 2 3 Neg: ______ Pos: ______ Rear Hub/Wheelbase: Forward Back Middle Rear Toe-In Plate Anti-Squat Plate 1 1 1 2 2 2.5 2.5 5 6 2 2.5 Wheel 1 2 3 3 3 3 REBOUND STOP Differential Front Type: Center Type: Rear Type : Tires STD Torsen STD STD Torsen Torsen Oil_____K Front Type:___________Compound_____STD____ Foam:_______STD STIFF_____ Oil_____K Rear Type:___________Compound_____STD____ Oil_____K Note:_______________________________________________________________________________ Engine Foam:_______STD STIFF_____ CLUTCH Type:______________ Clutch Shoes: 2 Shoes Head Clearance___.025" Port:______ Shoe Brand:________________Compound:________ ALUM: Blue Red 3Shoes Pipe:____________ Spring Brand:_______________Tension:________SiILVER HVY 1mm_________ Fuel:_________% Gearing:____13T____14T TO ____46T___48T Plug__________ Note:_______________________________________________________________________________ Turbo Normal - 25 - 4 Shoes ______ Smooth Engine Tuning for normal use Engine Tuning Terms There are a few common terms used around the world to aid in your tuning. 1. Idle Speed Needle or Throttle Stop Screw: This is the needle normally located at the side of the carburettor. This adjusts the carburettor slide to increase or decrease the idle speed. Keep 1mm opening gap when the throttle is in the close position, 2. High Speed, Fuel Supply Needle or Top End Needle: This is the needle enclosed in a brass sleeve on the top of your carburettor that controls your high speed. This needle increases the fuel to air mixture by turning out anti-clockwise and is referred to as )Rich(. Turning the needle in clockwise reduces the fuel to air mixture and is referred to as )Lean(. 3. Low Speed Needle or Bottom End Needle: This needle controls your take off speed and is generally a large brass screw located at the back of the carburettor. If your engine is a three needle type then the bottom end needle is located on the end of the slide. Turn the needle out anticlockwise and the engine will become rich and have less bottom end speed. Turning the needle clockwise and this will lean out the bottom end and give a faster take off. Top End Needle ( Main Needle) Idle Speed Needle Low Speed Needle ( Second Needle) Keep 1mm gap Idle Speed Needle Important Things To Know Before Running In Your Engine. 1. Model car fuel is made 3 components. Methanol, Nitromethane and Oil. Only use high quality fuel from your local hobby supplier. Do not use fuel with less than 15% nitro or more than 25% nitro. If you use higher than 25% you may have to add another head shim. Do not use a fuel with less than 12% oil. Oil is suspended in the fuel as a lubricant for your engine and also aids cooling. 2. Overheating the engine will damage the engine and shorten its life. Overheating is generally caused by lack of airflow to the engine or )Lean( carburettor adjustments. 3. If you start your engine without the receiver and transmitter on or batteries are low or have failed the engine may rev out of control and this will destroy the conrod, bearings, piston and sleeve. Running In Your Engine 1. Turn on your receiver and transmitter with fully charged batteries. Take off your air filter and look inside the carburettor and make sure the gap between the slide and the body of the carburettor is about 1mm. If not adjust the throttle stop screw or check the throttle trim on your transmitter. Relace and secure the air filter. 2. Prime the fuel line with fuel. This can be done by removing and blowing into the pressure fuel line that is attached to the muffler. 3. Pre Heat the cooling head with a hair dryer to about 90 degrees Celsius. Connect a fully charged glow warmer to the glow plug and start the engine for the first time. 4. It is recommended that you idle at least 3 tanks of fuel thru the engine before attempting to drive the model. While the engine is running there must be a consistent amount of white smoke and oil coming from the exhaust system. This means the engine is running )RICH(. If not turn out the bottom end needle anti-clockwise. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the )Idle Speed Screw( to get a consistent idle. If the engine becomes hot to touch stop immediately and start again when it has cooled down. 5. After the initial tanks of fuel you can start leaning out the engine a bit at a time. With the wheels off the ground give your engine a little rev to clear out spent oil. If the engine cuts or keeps making a spluttering sound turn in )LEAN( the Low Speed Needle 1/8 of a turn. The engine under all conditions must blow smoke. If not the engine is too lean and will overheat. 6. Place the car on the track with body on and run around for about two tanks. The engine should still be spitting out excess oil and not be running over 110 Celsius. Turn the Bottom End needle another 1/8 of a turn and repeat this process until the engine is responsive but still chugs a little and spits oil. the with body on run the model. Repeat this process 7. It is now time to adjust the Top End Needle. Turn in the top end needle1/8 of a turn and until you have a reasonable top speed. The bottom end needle and top end needle have an effect on each other and it will be necessary to adjust them until you have a satisfactory balance between the two. It is still important tosmoke see a trail at high speed. If not turn out the top end needle 1/8 of a turn. To test if the engine is running too lean pinch the fuel line quickly about 2cm from the carburettor and if the engine cuts immediately it is too lean. Trouble Shooting There are a number of rea sons the engine won't sta rt. The engine generall y sta rts immediately when the correct conditions are met. Prolon ged pulling of the pull sta rter or sta rter box will only fill the cra nk case causing hydro lock and cause dame to the pull sta rter or engine. 1. The Glow warmer is not charge d. Check this by connecti ng the warmer to a new plug outside the engine. The filament coil must glow brightly. 2. The plug is damaged. Remove the plug and if the filament coil is disto rted or not a shiny sil ver rep lace it. 3. Fuel filter or tank filter blocked. Clean with methylated spirits and back was. 4. Incorrect or polluted old fuel. Replace with correct fuel and make sure the fuel line is primed. 5. Engine bottom end is set too lean. Turn out the bottom end needle 1/8 of a turn. 6. Engine is too hot. This will res ult in a damaged engine. 7. No compres sion . The engine pisto n and slee ve have been damaged due to heat or dust entering the engine. Test the compres sion by turning the engine over by hand. When the pisto n is at the top of its strok e you should feel it get tight. If not rep lace the conrod pisto n and liner. Mainten ance 1. Afte r you have run your engine for the day all fuel in the tank, fuel line and crank case must be removed. Model car fuel attra cts water and this will cause corro sion and damage the bearings. With the fuel tank empty start the engine and run the fuel lines dry. Remove the plug and use squirt some afte r run or light oil into the crank case. Turn over the engine a few times to coat the bearings. Replace the plug and cover the exhaust out let. 2. Carefu lly rem ove the air filter not allowing dirt inside the engine as this will damage the pisto n and liner. Replace the filter element if necessary. 3. Clean the engine of dirt and fuel. Tips To get back to the original facto ry setting or your prefe rred setting for a particular fuel mix you should do the following. 1. Before making any adjustm ents to the engine take your tuning screw driver and turn in your bottom needle cloc kwise gently until you feel it can go any further. )Example 3 turns .( Record this in you note pad and back off 3 turns to the original posit ion. Repeat this with the top end needle. If you have lost your base settings sta rt with the top end needle out 2.5 turns from the bottom and the Low Speed Needle flush with the carbu rett or body. 2. Check engine temperatu re reg ularly by wetting your finger with spit and placing it on the cooling head. If it evaporate s quickly your engine is too hot. 3. Stay on the safe side with engine settings a bit rich is always better for prolon ged life. - 27 - Plastic parts for use 503204 DIFF.
