PROGETTO ARTE POLI The Italian Renaissance Atelier by the artist Albano Poli FORM, LIGHT, COLOUR ...ART Left: facade of blown glass, company in Modena Above: wall of metal and glass, Gritti Hotel, Verona ATELIER The ideas take shape in the atelier, where the raw material is shaped to man’s will, where experience is the bridge to join passion with knowledge to create real masterpieces. By working with different materials and techniques, the Progetto Arte Poli studio is as versatile as any of the ancient renaissance workshops, where the artist and his assistants ably moved between glassware, painting and sculpture. MISSION Before becoming a project, each work is born from a feeling, from an intuition that is then transferred as a drawing onto paper and then shaped by the able artist’s hands in the material, who creates and lives the work as it grows. The Progetto Arte Poli is a well-known company at both the national and international levels since they have been working in the artistic sector for more than half a century. The work of Progetto Arte Poli is inspired by the philosophy of the Renaissance workshop, which operates according to innovative techniques still following the tradition. In this large workshop of 6000 square meters, very high level crafts come together with artistic creativity. This combination is achieved, thanks to the experience and manual abilities of qualified professionals who collaborated together with Master Albano Poli: an example of the union between creative genius and manual ability, between loyalty to the ancient tradition and being open to new artistic expressions. The Veronese workshop of Albano Poli has been operating for decades in the sector of stained glass and furnishing accessories. The works that come out of this workshop are finished, tested and ready to be inserted in the structures they are designed for; they conserve every detail, the preciousness and precision of ancient techniques, while taking with them the breath of an invention that uses the typical abstraction of contemporary art. Mosaics, frescoes, wrought iron, stone, wooden works, bronze sculptures, and preservative restoration are used and integrated in designing and making stained glass, confirming Progetto Arte Poliís strong point: combining very different artisan works and using the irreplaceable traditional artistic techniques together with the latest forefront technology. The company offers its experience in every phase from the design to the final realization as, well as assembling the products; this fundamental added value has been confirmed by the fact that the company has obtained the S.O.A certification in the OS2, OG2 and OS6 for its workings. ARTIST ALBANO POLI Albano Poli began his long career more than fifty years ago. Initially he restored or reproduced church windows and then gradually, over the years, thanks to his great manual skill and creative genius, he began designing windows with his own style. Works of art which are new and different each single time, fully appreciated by their admirers for their precious materials, precision techniques and, often, for their abstraction. Maestro Poli’s creativity soon meant that he was surrounded with professionals and craftsmen who, together with him, grew with the same awareness experimenting new artistic expressions. DESIGN STUDIO Maestro Albano Poli, with all his great skills, began his work alone but he was soon joined by his son Paolo beginning a journey together that led to opening a design studio where their ideas are thrown into the melting pot and are compared, revised and corrected until they reach their final, essential but ever complete outcome. HOTEL AMBASCIATORI PALACE, ROME Works implemented: glass ceiling Designed by the famous architect Mr Carlo Burisi Vici and built up at the beginning of the twentieth century, this hotel is also known as “Palazzo degli Ambasciatori” (Ambassadors’ Palace), since from when it was established it hosted the diplomatic people of the embassies nearby. Between 1993 and 2001 the palace was restored, bringing the rooms back to how they were at the beginning of the century. Among the most important interventions are the implementation of a large ceiling in the Sala Ambasciatori (Ambassadors’ Room), which was created with blown glass with yellow shades and enhanced by a back lighting system. HOTEL D’ANGLETERRE, COPENAGHEN Works implemented: external pyramid-shaped roof and ceiling underneath made of blown glass HOTEL PRINCIPE DI SAVOIA, MILAN Works implemented: alabaster glass ceiling When it was first inaugurated in 1927, the Hotel Principe di Savoia of Milan hosted businessmen, who had the chance to use it as a business venue and to relax in its comfortable environments. The hotel became soon a place for sovereigns and famous people belonging to the world of art and literature. The hotel is still considered as a prestigious hotel and it represents the excellence of the Italian hotel facilities. Master Albano Poli designed and created a special ceiling in the Garden Room of the hotel. It features a curved structure with a central dome, where real curved alabasters were set up. The ceiling also features wrought steel flower decorations. Built in 1755 in the heart of Copenhagen, Hotel D’Angleterre has been an important place for numerous political and national events in the history of Denmark. The hotel, also thanks to its 250 year history, is a symbol of elegance, luxury and style. In 2005 the hotel owners charged Albano Poli to create a new ceiling in the party hall. The Master designed not only the blown glass decorative ceiling, but also an aluminium and glass pyramid roof, thus enhancing also the exteriors of the hotel. The blown glass ceiling enhances the beauty of the whole environment and it features a central mechanized opening to let air circulate, combining elegance to handiness. 2005 EXPO’ EXHIBITION, AICHI, JAPAN Works implemented: artistic stained blown glass window The Expò has always been an extraordinary universal event to give visibility to tradition, creativity and innovation in various sectors. In 2005, Albano Poli was charged to represent Italy and its characteristics by creating artistic stained glass windows that were used to set up the Pavilion dedicated to the exhibitors of our country. Albano Poli used glass to create a peculiar paper “scroll” where to fix Italian landscapes and typical products to talk about the wonders of this country. The abstract compositions of the coloured glasses feature some specific characteristics that are typical of the Italian landscapes, however, they also leave plenty of space to imagination and interpretation. HOTEL GRITTI, LAKE OF GARDA Works implemented: glass wall MOSAICS Some mosaic works The artworks come alive through a careful combination of the glass tesseras, the smalti, the stones and the marbles, used to make both architectural parts and liturgical furnishings. The tesseras are hand-cut and shaped using the hammer (following the antique mosaic tradition) or the saw for the inlay works. The mosaics are made using the indirect technique putting the tesseras on a piece of paper and glue or using the modern direct technique where the mosaic is put on a net and then installed. PRIVATE VILLA This extremely modern panel has become an innovative table. PRIVATE VILLA Progetto Arte Poli made the entire swimming-pool floor for a private villa on the hills near Lake Garda. This mosaic that been made using small smalti tesseras PRIVATE VILLA ROMANA CAFE’, MILAN CATULLO AIRPORT, VERONA Progetto Arte Poli created a contemporary marble and glass counter for the ticket office at Catullo Airport in Verona. We used the intarsio technique, with tesseras of different dimension and thickness. At the base of the marble columns, the combination of different tesseras creates a remarkable decoration of the floor. The renovation of the interiors for the Romana Cafè in Milan has been possible thanks to the new mosaics, the stained windoes and the sacred furnishings. The mosaics that cover the columns have been made through the traditional technique of using small stone tesseras, gold tesseras and smalti. These tesseras have been then put in a particular way as to create an abstract decoration. The light-blue shades of the columns can also be seen on the stained windows and the contemporary furnishing made by Progetto Arte Poli. COMPANY IN VERONA This flooring decoration of the stairs has been made using the “indirect technique”. WROUGHT IRON Some wrought iron works The succession of the beats on the hot iron gives life to vibrant artworks which, thanks to a wise use of the light that is spread and reflected, shadows and glows, decorate and enhance the environment.
