Elliott G. Scott Fennell Dear Friends: Much of the period from July 2006 to June 2008 was characterized by steady growth in the economy of the nation and our region. Through the generosity of our contributors, the Trident Technical College Foundation was able to invest over $2 million in scholarships, equipment, faculty and staff development, and programs during this time. Looking forward, the economic landscape here and abroad has changed dramatically. In such a challenging economic environment, it is critical that we continue investing wisely for long-term growth and stability. For these reasons, your continued support of TTC through the Foundation makes sound business sense. William A. Finn David T. Ginn Elizabeth B. Grant Larry C. Hargrove William S. Helmly Carolyn Hunter D. Jermaine Husser Leonard L. Hutchison III B. Thomas Kays Each year, Trident Technical College provides high-quality yet affordable education and training for more than 12,500 area residents through more than 150 programs of study. Some of these students choose to continue their education at a four-year institution while others enter well-paying technical careers. In both cases, they contribute to the region’s long-term economic vitality and diversification. Christopher A. Latham Mark A. Lattanzio Michael G. Leatherwood Andrea D. Limehouse Elizabeth I. “Sis” Marshall James W. Martin Robert S. McCants Jack M. Mitchell TTC is and will remain a critical component in the region’s economic development efforts. With your support, the college will continue to operate effectively and efficiently through changing economic conditions which include decreasing levels of state support. Bruce D. Murdy Robert W. Pearce Jr. M. Wayne Phillips Ralph W. Phillips Robert L. Pratt Alexander M. Quattlebaum III We sincerely thank you for your confidence in TTC and the support you provide through the TTC Foundation. The Foundation operates independently of the college as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The Board of Trustees is comprised of individuals from the tri-county area who are corporate, industry, civic and philanthropic leaders. They carry out the aims and purposes of the Foundation and set policies governing its affairs, assets and property. 2008 TTC graduates Gilbert Cavazos and Nateshia Grimes, co-winners of the President’s Award. TTC Foundation Financial Summary From July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2008, the Foundation distributed $2,075,366 to support TTC students, faculty, staff and programs. During this period, the Foundation held nearly $6 million in investments and assets. David Yarborough 2006-2008 Chairman, TTC Foundation Board of Trustees David joined the Trident Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees in 2001 and immediately took a hands-on role in the college’s first capital campaign. With his guidance, the campaign not only met, but exceeded, the $5 million goal. The Mary Yarborough Faculty Office serves as a testament to the personal commitment of David, his wife Gail, and his mother to the campaign. His energetic advocacy of the Southern Wine & Spirits Vintners Dinner and Expo helped to develop the high-profile event into the Foundation’s largest fundraiser, increasing support from $65,000 in 2004 to $340,000 in 2008. David’s drive to improve the college raised the bar for service to TTC. Scholarships, capital improvements, classroom equipment and community awareness all increased under his leadership. 3 2006-07 Financial Accountability Statement Assets Cash and Cash Equivalents Unconditional (Promises to Give) Prepaid Expenses Accounts Receivable Investments (at fair value) Cash Value of Life Insurance Equipment (net) Total Assets Liabilities Net Assets Unrestricted Temporarily Restricted Permanently Restricted Total Liabilities and Net Assets $ 352,202 $ 100,648 $ 1,644 $ 11,291 $4,579,335 $ 7,878 $ 890,791 $5,943,789 $ 48,801 $1,493,925 $3,898,813 $ 502,250 $5,943,789 TTC Foundation financial statements are audited annually by the accounting firm of McKnight Frampton CPAs, LLC. My education at Trident Technical College has made me a stronger person. Because of that, TTC will always feel like home.” Wayne Prince University Transfer 7 Campus Campaign Ways to Help Trident Technical College receives less than 25 percent of its budget from the State of South Carolina. To help bridge the gap between needs and resources, the TTC Foundation seeks private support for: Specific Programs – Your gift can benefit the program of study of your choice. Scholarships – Your gift can help deserving students achieve their educational goals. Endowments – Your gift can provide funding to support future generations. The campus campaign raises funds for scholarships, faculty/staff development, equipment needs and operations of the Foundation. Dollars raised from this campaign support specific academic funds, scholarships, minigrants, tuition reimbursement and credit course assistance or go toward the operating budget of the Foundation. Donors to this campaign are full-time TTC employees and retirees. Ninety-one percent of TTC employees participated in the 2008 campaign. The campus campaign began in 1980 with 65 percent participation, raising $27,593. The 2008 campaign was our most successful to date, raising more than $52,723. Dental Campaign The Foundation launched the Dental Services campaign in the fall of 2007, and it continues through 2009. The campaign’s purpose is to improve the college’s dental hygiene and dental assisting laboratory in response to shifts in industry standards and emerging technology. These enhancements will allow students to learn using the most technologically advanced equipment available in the dental industry, further enriching their education and training and increasing their ability to assimilate smoothly into the daily operations of a local dental practice. The cost of this much needed equipment totals $600,000. Vintners Dinner The 2008 Vintners dinner, presented by Southern Wine & Spirits of South Carolina, raised more than $340,000 for the Trident Technical College Foundation. Funds raised from this event support scholarships and equipment needs for students and professional development for faculty and staff. The first event took place in 2004 and raised $65,000. Capital Projects and Equipment – Your gift can help maintain a first-class learning environment for our students. Instruction and Professional Development – Your gift can help attract, develop and retain the caliber of faculty our students deserve. Unrestricted Purposes – Your gift can be used to address critical needs at the college. For information on ways to give: www.tridenttech. edu/805.htm 8 More than 575 guests enjoyed a wonderful four-course, wine-paired dinner prepared and served by the students of the Culinary Institute of Charleston at the 2008 Vintners Dinner. TTC Foundation Donors Between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2008, the Foundation received $1,864,474 from 2,030 individuals and organizations.
