Since 1994, our homes have withstood the highest hurricane force winds and taken direct hits from tornadoes — all without a single structural failure. With a Kodiak steel home, there is nothing to rot or burn, no organic material to support mold growth, and nothing for termites to eat. Our homes are framed with structural steel I-beams and heavy metal studs. We are the only steel home company that does not require a plywood sheathing, or equivalent on the exterior. That’s why our homes make sense. They are priced competitively and look great. Kodiak steel homes are easy to build, need little maintenance and are non-combustible. Give us a call or go online today, and you’ll see why Kodiak Steel Homes® is your safest choice. The long leaf pine forest where my house is located was destroyed, losing 90% to 95% of all trees. The garage pictured was hit by 6 trees. Three hit the rear and rolled off. The size was about 6” to 9” diameter and was the top part of 80’ longleaf pines. . . Two hit the peak - one about 28” in diameter the other about 26” in diameter. . . No str uctur al damage to the building occurred, only to the roof and trim.” George S. — Abita Springs, Louisiana A FOREST FELL ON THEIR HOME DURING KATRINA MATERIAL IN THEIR ATTIC BURNED FOR TWO DAYS The cellulose insulation was too close to the flue of their wood burning stove and caught fire. They smelled it burning for two days but thought it was the stove drawing poorly. The fire was contained between two ceiling joists so it did not spread, but it did burn a hole in the ceiling. “The fire department said that if it had been a wood frame house, the whole attic would have caught fire and the house could have burned down around us. Were glad we live in a steel home.” Linda L. - Phoenix City, Al THEY SURVIVED A TORNADO’S DIRECT HIT “ We had wind at 155 miles per hour during the tornado, and it was circular wind. It snapped telephone poles in front and broke the 2” steel posts of my swimming pool fence out back. Most of the insulation was sucked out of our attic, but we didn’t even have a sheet rock crack.” Jerry M. of Minden, La after a tornado hit their Kodiak steel home April, 2000. 2003 “CEDAR FIRE” LARGEST FIRESTORM IN CALIFORNIA HISTORY Bruce R. was building his Southridge 3 home himself and living on site in a trailer. He was two weeks away from moving in when the historic fire roared through his property. His three barns had rock walls but their roof system was framed with wood. The barns burned, the trailer burned but his new home only had cosmetic damage to a few pieces of the steel wood grain siding and trim. We sent him new siding and trim and his repair costs were very low. Bruce talked about how happy he was that his family would be protected by a Kodiak steel home. 5.8 MAGNATUDE EARTHQUAKE AUGUST 23RD - HURRICANE IRENE AUGUST 27TH “Thank you! Thank you! We just had a very large Pine Tree fall on our house during Hurricane Irene. We watched the tree come down and just heard a thud that did not sound that loud. We went to the utility room and there was no damage at all in the house not even a crack in the drywall. We opened the door expecting to see the tree on the ground missing our house and was shocked to see it on our roof. It was like a pine forest at the door. We had to go out the front door in the storm to see the roof area where it landed and was shocked at , what we saw. We then checked the attic and was surprised at how little damage we could see in the attic… We just can not imagine what we would be facing if this was a stick built house. We feel like we would have lost the complete back corner of the house… Thank you! By the way we had the earthquake on Tuesday and the floor shook and the roof rumbled, but the walls did not move and pictures did not come down. We are very impressed with our house! Villager Example: The Villager model was developed by adding a 15’ section to the Springhill. Springhill Wings that valley into the main home can be moved, added or deleted. Example: The Pendleton homes were developed by moving the double gable wing of the Chenal and adding a single wing at the other end. Pendleton 2 Chenal 2 Dormers configurations are changeable. Crestwood Crestwood 4 With Rear Porch Meadowbrook Example: The Crestwood 4 or Meadowbrook could have two large front dormers instead of small, large, small. The dormers could also be eliminated. Porch configurations are sometimes changeable. Autumn View 7 6 Porches can sometimes be partially or completely enclosed. They can sometimes be deleted. Rosemont Lancaster The Lancaster is like a Rosemont but the stud wall is inset to make a porch. MAKING CHANGES TO OUR STANDARD MODEL HOMES Kodiak’s homes are open span with no load bearing walls; floor plan changes are easy and wide open interiors are very economical. Stairwells can be straight or ‘L’ shaped. They can run east/west or north/south. Their location can move. Fireplaces can be added to any plan and located almost anywhere. Windows and doors can be moved to almost any wall location. They can be framed bigger or smaller. Un-punched materials can be added for on site engineering and fabrication. 7 WHAT’S INCLUDED IN A FRAMING PLUS PACKAGE? 1.Bolt-together red iron structural steel 2. Interior and exterior metal studs and track 3. Radiant barrier insulation wrap for the roof and walls 4. Roof and wall bracing 5. Nuts, bolts, screws and hardware 6.Colored steel roof system and trim 7. Horizontal lap steel wood grain siding for all or part of home 8. Soffit for the ceiling of porches and 18” overhangs 9. Gutters, downspouts, and trim 10. NO windows, door s, stair s, r ailings, shutter s, column wr aps, gable vent, or brick included Kodiak Steel Homes® Description Our main frames are I-Beam columns that bolt to I-Beam rafters. The endwall frames may be made of I-Beams or Cee Channel. The main roof framing consists of 6” purlins that are bolted to the rafter. A heavy “cee” channel bolts to the bottom of the rafter and hangs straight down. Bolted onto this channel is the ceiling rafter. The ceiling joists bolted onto this rafter are “zee” shaped members. All of the above is the “red iron” portion of the home. In between the I-Beam columns, we use a 6” metal stud spaced 16” on center (certain models may have some 8” studs. The inside walls are framed up using our 3 5/8” metal studs spaced 16” on center. We include enough studs to do our standard floor plan. Window and door framed-opening material is also included. On the outside of the roof framing and the outside of the wall framing, we include a foil faced radiant barrier insulation wrap. This is to stop the thermal conductivity, or the hot and cold, from traveling through the steel. It stops 97% of the radiant heat penetration during the summer and 97% of the radiant heat loss during the winter. This insulation is R11.6 on the roof and R9 on the walls. Conventional insulation should also be used for maximum energy efficiency. The roof covering is a colored ‘PBR’ panel. This goes over the radiant barrier insulation, and is attached to the roof purlins. No plywood decking goes under it, so the roof system is non-combustible. We also include colored eave and gable trim. The ridge line of the roof is usually fully vented. The wall covering is a steel wood-grain horizontal lap siding that has the same appearance as wood board siding. No sheathing board is necessary under our steel siding. The soffit (ceiling of porches or overhangs) panels under the overhangs are included and are typically vented. Framing only packages are available without the roofing and siding. 8 Green Building Kodiak Steel Homes® models excel in many of the most important areas of green building, including these areas specifically targeted by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and its LEED rating system for green construction: Durability Our steel framing materials are more durable than the more common materials they replace, and they also eliminate or greatly reduce most threats to the durability of a home such as termites, mold, settling, and rot. Heat Island Effect: Roof Building materials absorb and hold more heat than vegetation, causing urban "heat islands." Our Energy-Star certified roofs with their reflective Kynar finish lowers the roof temperature as well as the homeowner's cooling bills. Non-Toxic Pest Control A green home should minimize the need for pesticides, especially for termites. Of course Kodiak Steel Homes® kits eliminate the threat of termites and the need for any measures to control them. Energy Efficient Insulation Kodiak Steel Homes® kits minimize heat transfer and thermal bridging with their reflective insulation and Energy Star certified roofs. Our 6-inch walls also allow for almost 2.5 inches more insulation than can be installed in a typical 2x4 wood-stud wall, making our homes one of most energy-efficient structures you can build. Efficient Use of Framing Materials Our engineered design, detailed drawings, complete materials lists, and precut parts make Kodiak Steel Homes® kits one of the most efficient and least wasteful framing systems available. Environmentally Preferable Products Approximately 65% of the steel used to produce a Kodiak Steel Homes ® kit is recycled. Also our steel parts contain no toxins or allergens themselves, and they eliminate the need for several other common building materials (like plywood sheathing and roof decks) that can contain harmful compounds. 9 Chenal 1-2 Chenal 1A Square Footage: 2026 Living, 480 Garage, 211 Porch Chenal 1B Square Footage: 2506 Living, 211 Porch Chenal 2 Square Footage: 2694 Living, 612 Garage, 211 Porch 10 You can add a fireplace or move most walls, doors and windows.
