floor coverings, Grabo Smart, Grabo Vaporex, Protectsport, Grabo Weld weld cord. Storage Coverings Grabo sport floor coverings, Grabo Smart System, special membrane and the accessory system products (Grabo Vaporex and Protectsport) are made in rolls and they should be stored according to the below information. The rolls should be stored upright (vertically), the rolls or pallets mustn’t be stacked. The materials should be stored in their original packing (as delivered). It is recommended to store the Protectsport product on a stand since it can be severally used as the protective covering of sports grounds. Weld cord The Grabo Weld can be stored under the same conditions as the flooring, the individual units should be stored in the original package (as delivered). Storage location The products should be stored in a cool, dry and well ventilated closed place not exposed to dust. Covered storage outdoors is not permitted. 2 Storage guide for Grabo sport floor coverings Temperature PVC products should be stored at temperatures between +10 °C and + 25 °C. Temperatures above or below these values are permitted only for a short time. Humidity Storage in damp locations and condensation should be avoided. A relative humidity of approx. 40 – 67 % is preferable. Heating In heated storage locations the PVC products should be protected from the heat source. The distance between the heat source and the stored products should be at least 1 meter. Light The product should be protected from light, especially from direct sunlight and artificial light having a high ultraviolet component. Lighting with standard lamps is preferable. Storage and handling The products should be stored stress-free, with no exposure to stress, tension, pressure or other deforming forces as these stresses can encourage both permanent deformation and crack formation as well. General By means of the proper storage and handling the properties of PVC floorings are practically kept unchanged for a long time (approx. 4-5 years) However, after a long storage period a gluing trial is recommended before installing the product. 3 Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings Requirements to the sub-floor The sub-floor should be properly clear, permanently dry, free from cracks and anti-adhesion substances and of sufficient tensile and compressive strength. In case of concrete sub-floor and cement composition floor its moisture content mustn’t exceed the value of 2,5 CM %. The proper quality – before the installation – should be ascertained by means of examinations and measurements. It is reasonable to log the results! Preparation of the sub-floor Before beginning the covering procedure any glue and paint remnants should be removed from the sub-floor, the eventual cracks should be eliminated. The present preparation and laying guide is based on the Henkel Thomsit products but the products having similar parameters of any manufacturers can be used. The loose surface layer uplifted to the surface of concrete should be removed by sanding. After dust removal the concrete sub-floor should be pre-treated with a Thomsit R 777 dispersion primer diluted with water in a portion of 1:1. The primer binds the residual dust, closes the pores and forms an adhesive bridge for the base flattener. After the total imbibition of the primer the irregularities of the base should be eliminated by means of the proper Thomsit base flattener. For choosing the magnitude of stresses and the deadline for installation should be minded. The mass properly diluted and mixed with water should be spread by means of a trowel. Then it should be deaerated by means of a spiked aeration roller. After drying the spatulated surface should be sanded and dedusted. 4 Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings Laying of Grabo sport floors: Laying of Grabo sport floors with Grabo Vaporex membrane: It is not compulsory to install Grabo Vaporex membrane, it is only recommended! It is recommended in cases if the floor should be laid onto a new concrete base and the humidity of the concrete exceeds the value 2.5 CM %. The use of Grabo Vaporex membrane is recommended up to 5 CM % humidity. Grabo Vaporex has excellent vapour draining and vapour moderating properties. It should be used for asphalt bases in any case. The Grabo Vaporex products should be laid down to the properly prepared base with its patterned surface down, and folded up approx. 10 cm at the skirtings. The roll should be laid down abutting, and properly fastened with a polymer band of 5 cm on its back side (i.e. from the top). The membrane so made should lay flatly. It is better to lay down the Grabo Vaporex product crosswise. The Grabo sport floor coverings should be laid down on to the Vaporex membrane longitudinally, and THOMSIT K188 E should be used as a bonding agent. 5 Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings Laying of Grabo sport floors without Grabo Vaporex membrane: The Grabo sport floor coverings should be conditioned and freed from stresses at site - at a temperature of 18 C˚ at least - 1 day before laying down. The conditioned floor covering should be cut with a margin at both ends, then laid down abutting, precisely tailored the edges. It is recommended to lay down the rolls longitudinally. Gluing The tailored stripes can be fastened to the properly prepared concrete base in two ways. Wet gluing In case of absorbent sub-floors THOMSIT UK 400 water dispersion adhesive should be used. The adhesive should be applied on the subfloor only by means of a spatula of B1 teething; material requirement: approx. 400g/m2 . Contact gluing Contact gluing can be used in case of absorbent or non-absorbent subfloors as well. B1 6 A2 Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings • In case of absorbent sub-floors THOMSIT UK 188 E water dispersion contact adhesive should be used. The adhesive should be applied on the sub-floor only by means of a spatula of A2 or A4 teething; material requirement: 200-250 g/m2. • In case of non-absorbent sub-floors (e.g. PVC gluing on PVC substrate) it is recommended to use only THOMSIT K 188 E adhesive, the adhesive should be applied on the sub-floor only by means of a spatula of A2 or A4 teething; material requirement: 200-250 g/m2. The Grabo sport floor covering can be installed also in case of underfloor heating, the before mentioned adhesive types are suitable as well. Before gluing the strips should be folded up half-way and the selected adhesive should be applied. The ideal gluing conditions are specified on all boxes of adhesives by the manufacturers. These instructions should be strictly followed! For the optimum adhesion the covering should be carefully pressed down – beginning from the middle – by means of a manual rubbing cork paying attention not to leave any air bubble under it. Finally the glued covering should be pressed down by a roller. The other half of the strip should be laid in the same way. 7 Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings Welding Heat welding The made covering should be grooved along the joints in the proper depth and width with a grooving machine or a hand groove tool and the groove should be cleaned from the possible dirt. For welding the 4,5 mm variation of GraboWeld should be used. The temperature of the welding machine should be set between 4-5 grades. Welding can be made with an automatic mobile welding machine or hand welding tool. Before beginning the procedure it is recommended to make a trial welding in order to set the optimum temperature and speed. 8 Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings After the weld seam cooled down the excess welding cord should be removed in two steps. First the cord should be half-cut by means of a slide and a quarter moon knife, then after total cooling flushing should be made with a quarter moon knife. The edges can be closed with foamed base boards or a planed wooden base ledge of 5 cm height. In case if Vaporex is built in as well, an airgap of 5 mm should be made at installing the base ledge. 9 Guide to the installation of Grabo sport floor coverings Cold welding For GraboSport floor coverings a widespread welding method is the cold welding technology. The seams can be easily and quickly welded. The cold welding technology consists of 3 steps: Step 1: Paper adhesive band should be put and fastened with a pressure roll onto the joints of the closely fitted PVC stripes. Step 2: The adhesive tape should be simply and definitely cut through in the seam range by means of a circular knife (or a trapezoidal knife). Step 3: The nozzle of the cold welding tube should be pushed with one hand into the seam and should advance along it. The cold welding agent should be fed by the other hand so that the adhesive band becomes wet in a width of 5 mm. The adhesive band should be removed after 10 minutes. The result is an almost invisible and waterproof seam. A successful cold welding procedure needs the tools on the picture. More information about the cold welding is available at the homepage www.mueller-pvc-naht.de. 10 Cleaning and maintenance guide for Grabo sport floor coverings Cleaning and maintenance guide for Grabo sport floor coverings The durability and aesthetic appearance of the floor covering is basically affected by the regular cleaning and maintenance. Naturally the frequency of cleaning depends on the requisition degree. In order to keep the condition of Grabo floors a regular daily cleaning and periodically done basic cleaning are recommended. In addition to the cleaning agents recommended in the present guide other, similar cleaning agents of the same parameters can be used. Do not use cleaning agents which deteriorate - e.g. scratching the surface! In general it is important to comply with the instructions of the manufacturers and it is advisable to ask and follow advice from the companies manufacturing cleaning agents. Preventing measures Major part of the usual dirt can be avoided by using dirt catchers at the entrances and in the entrance-halls and by regularly cleaning of them. In case of furniture proper underlays or rollers should be used and regularly cleaned. Basic cleaning • removing solid dirt from the surface by sweeping or vacuumcleaning • removing hard, adhesive dirt Tools • high-alkaline basic cleaning agent • simple-wheel grinding machine with a red pad • water sucking device (handled rubber and trowel) 12 Cleaning and maintenance guide for Grabo sport floor coverings The high-performance basic cleaning agent is for the extremely rapid and complete dissolution of the deposited dirt. These agents contain water-soluble solvents, tensides and occasionally disinfectants. Technology The solution should be dispersed on a surface of 5-10 m2, the area should be scrubbed after an acting time of 10-15 minutes, then the cleaning agent should be absorbed, the surface should be rinsed with a plenty of clean water, and lastly, the water should be absorbed again (neutralisation). The basic cleaning should be done with a frequency according to the grade of uses. Usual frequency: once or twice a year. 13 Cleaning and maintenance guide for Grabo sport floor coverings Daily cleaning • removing solid dirt from the surface by sweeping or vacuumcleaning • wet cleaning manually or with a machine For sport floor coverings it is preferred to do the daily cleaning with a machine. Manual wet cleaning For the daily cleaning a mop, a mop holder and cleaning agent are required An anionic or non-ionic, tenside-based, alcoholic cleaning agent is recommended which excellently keeps the original shine of the surfaces and dries quickly with no stripes and blushing. Cleaning should be performed with the two-bucket method. Mechanical wet cleaning For the daily mechanical cleaning of the Grabo floor covering a walking or automotive cleaning machine should be used. The cleaning agents recommended for mechanical cleaning contain non-ionic or cationic tensides. It is important not to affect the slipping properties of the surface. Grabo Protectsport has beendeveloped for this application. By means of the reeling and unwinding device manufactured by the firm Janser the rolls can be easily lifted off the storing frame and laid on to the sporting ground. The rolls laid together should be fastened with a double-sided adhesive tape. 16 Painting of the lines of a sporting ground on the Grabo sport floor coverings Painting of the lines of a sporting ground on the Grabo sport floor coverings Our product Grabocolor is recommended for painting the sporting ground lines. This product is available in five colours: white, yellow, blue, black, red. Grabocolor is a two-pot polyurethane paint. It has a good adhesive property and forms an abrasion-proof layer. Preparation of the surface • The surface of the floor should be clean, free of grease, oil and water. • The playing lines should be marked according to the given plans. The marking band should be pressed into the dents of the graining of the floor by means of a rubber roller so that no paint underflow can occur. • The marked stripes should be wiped by a soft cloth impregnated with acetone. • The first layer of the paint should be applied within 1 hour after wiping with the solvent. Application of paint • Application conditions: • Temperature: between +15°C and +25˚C. • Humidity: 65% max. • Surface: dry, free from water and vapour. • The painting is sensitive to water and moisture until its setting. • According to the portion specified for the paint the components A and B should be stirred homogenous. 18 Painting of the lines of a sporting ground on the Grabo sport floor coverings • The application period calculated from stirring is 4 hours max. at a temperature of +20˚C. The application period decreases with the increase of the temperature. • Application: with a brush, in at least two layers. • The second layer can be applied only after complete drying (if it doesn’t adhere). • The masking band should be removed immediately after drying of the paint. It is difficult to remove the band if the paint totally hardened, and rough, curved lines can be resulted. • Do not step on the floor for at least 48 hours after the application. • The tools should be cleaned with the diluting agent sold together with the paint.
