Welcome to the 2016 Town Festival
Chairman’s Welcome
As we begin to put
the final touches on
this year’s programme
writing this article has
given me time to reflect
on the past few months.
When we started talking about
Festival late last year I have
been humbled at the level of
support we have received from
across the community and the
genuine excitement that Festival
week generates. I must pass
on our thanks to the previous
committee who have left us a
great legacy to take forward.
So this year we decided to base the
Festival on celebrating Her Majesty’s
90th birthday. We begin Festival
week with a packed calendar of our
local organisations and businesses.
Lots of events throughout the
week are available on a drop in
basis; why not try something new,
meet some new people and most
importantly have some fun!
Music throughout the years will
be played along the High Street,
along with some great entertainers.
We have new additions including
a Gaming Truck - which holds up
to 15 people playing the latest
computer games enclosed in an
8m Truck! Creation Station, a
wonderful crafting area for the
children, Stilt Walkers, a steel band
and much more. The main stage
has great musicians throughout
the day and for the first time we
have a food court, with Indian,
Pizza, Allergen Free, Burgers and
Afternoon Tea all available.
We have revived the Festival
Raffle and this year we have a
huge array of prizes, with the
top two prizes being £500 and
a 40” television respectively. We
will be selling tickets prior to the
event so look out for your chance
to win some fantastic things.
I look forward to seeing you all
during what I am confident is going
to be a fantastic week for the town.
With my very best wishes,
Councillor Matthew Walsh

surviving Great Western Railway Signal Box and is
currently being restored by volunteers from the Chinnor

signal box is open to the Princes Risborough and
surrounding area public for the first time. As well as
learning about mechanical signalling, visitors can
see at close hand the restoration taken place so far,
the work still to do and the future plans for the signal
box which includes signalling steam trains back
into Princes Risborough in the very near future.
Access is from platform 3 at the railway station. Just
turn up and follow the signs/instructions. Children
must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There
is a rough footpath to the box and a steep staircase
so robust footwear is strongly advised. Numbers
may have to be limited at times for safety reasons.
Railway volunteers will also be present in the
town centre where local residents can learn
about the railways’ extension plans into Princes
Risborough. There will be articles for sale and

Celebrating life at
Cherry Tree
Nursing Home
Be kind
to each
other
Dear Friends,
‘Unbelievable! A wonderful
experience! I enjoyed
it absolutely; I would
participate in another trip.’
We hope this finds you
well and enjoying some
beautiful sunny days.
It’s that time of the year again
to celebrate life at Cherry Tree
Nursing Home; I have decided to
take you on a journey of activities
and achievements this time.
There are some fantastic places
we have visited in the local
area and our residents have
decided to go back to some
of them again this summer;
Tring Natural History Museum
and World’s End Garden
Centre,(Summer & Christmas),
The Retirement Home for Horses
at Speen, various local pubs and
shopping trips as required.
I would like to share
with you some of the
residents’ feedback
regarding one of the trips:
We will soon open our new extension
and welcome short periods of
respite as well as long term care.
‘I enjoyed it very much; I would
like to participate in other trips’
Other activities included sing a longs
provided by singers and musicians,
floor volley ball competitions,
games, barbeques and parties.
We were inspected by The Care
Quality Commission in July 2015
and achieved a ‘GOOD‘ rating
and we achieved 4 stars at the
Dignity in Care Enter & View
visit, undertaken by Healthwatch
Bucks in September 2015. In
addition to this, at The Seminar
on Self-Care for Bucks Carers
in September 2015, we were
invited to share our best practices
and we have also been Highly
Commended for the Social Care
Dignity & Respect Award 2016.
Plans for the future:
Day care can be provided at request,
to help prospective residents make
an informed decision about their
place of care and treatment.
Thank you to all residents and
relatives for participating in the
Cherry Tree Awards. Here is one of
the comments about our team:
‘I am very positively inclined towards
all staff; they deserve praise in a
difficult job. The feeling on entry is
of caring and compassion.’ (relative)
Thank you for taking the time to read
this and remember our motto this
year: ‘BE KIND TO EACH OTHER’
Looking forward to
hearing from you,
Best wishes,
Dorina Deak
