CLEARMAX™ Wellbore Cleaning Services Drilling Evaluation Completion Production Wellbore cleaning services Chemicals Hydraulic systems Intervention Mechanical tools Engineering a clearer path to optimize your completion and maximize production Engineered Clean™ Wellbore Cleaning Solutions Weatherford’s CLEARMAX wellbore cleaning services provide a clear path for production with chemical, mechanical and hydraulic technologies that reduce operational costs, eliminate formation damage, and protect personnel and the environment. With our CLEARMAX wellbore cleaning services, you can be confident that your well has been Engineered Clean™. Whether drilling a complex well in the middle of the desert or a well in 6,000 ft (1,829 m) of water, a critical area of focus is debris, such as remmants of drilling fluid, lingering in the wellbore—ultimately having a negative impact on the completion of the well. It is recognized that wellbore debris is blamed for a third of all failed completions. Debris depresses your financial bottom line through remedial workover trips and downhole equipment failure. Debris risks plugging the formation and crippling production. Weatherford’s new CLEARMAX wellbore cleaning services provide you with the ability to safely and effectively remove wellbore debris, eliminating costly workovers and potential formation impairment, as well as validating an Engineered Clean wellbore. Chemical Solutions Our Engineered Chemistry® product offering is the foundation for the CLEARMAX line of wellbore chemical-cleaning solutions. Whether you are preparing for a cased-hole or openhole completion, our fluid experts deliver a wide range of high-performing and HSE-compliant drilling fluid cleanup solutions, including filter-cake breakers, water-wetting surfactants, and oil‑based mud thinners and pipe-dope removal solvents. Our specialists customize spacer trains for your specific well characteristics, taking into consideration volume, chemical concentration, contamination simulations and viscosity requirements to provide a smooth and complete transition from the drilling to the completion fluid. Mechanical Solutions Regardless of the cleaning scenario that your wellbore presents, the CLEARMAX system offers the mechanical solution to meet your specific requirements. Our proprietary line of casingcleaning, debris-extraction, circulation and wellbore integrity‑validation management tools are designed for the most challenging and complex of wells. Additionally as with our chemical offerings, we design, manufacture and maintain the tools in-house, ensuring reliability and the option to customize treatment tools to meet the client’s particular priorities, no matter how unique. Hydraulic Solutions Our Engineered Clean™ hydraulic software is a vital component of all debris management operations. It ensures that our chemical and mechanical solutions are optimized to your operation. With our Engineered Clean™ modeling, our CLEARMAX design engineers can simulate all wellbore cleaning design parameters to include torque-and-drag analysis, equivalent circulation density (ECD), pump rates and downhole/surface pressures. This process ensures that the chemical and mechanical recommendations work together to achieve your operational key performance indicators (KPIs). 4 © 2011 Weatherford. All rights reserved. CLEARMAX™ Wellbore Cleaning Services The CLEARMAX System is… …your cost (NPT) controller. Our CLEARMAX wellbore cleaning services help you recoup your investment much faster by eliminating multiple trips during the cleaning process. Our unique and integrated approach also extends to engineering a bottomhole assembly that enables you to execute simultaneous operations. This method could include drilling out cement to establish a new target plugged-back total depth (PBTD)—all in the same cleaning trip, saving even more time and rig costs. …your production protector. The benefits of drilling efficiently and safely to total depth are overshadowed when residual debris leaves impaired formation permeability and reduced reservoir access. The CLEARMAX system, with its precisely orchestrated chemical, mechanical and hydraulic packages, ensures that your reservoir begins production with maximum productivity—today and tomorrow. We verify that the CLEARMAX cleaning process has removed all the debris from the wellbore by filtering the final wellbore fluid through the CLEARMAX Retriever—a drillpipe‑conveyed, downhole-filtration, debris‑extraction tool. …your safety securer. When you can eliminate trips and makeup connections, you also reduce the risks of accidents on the rig floor. Combine that with our nonrotational tools, and you avoid any casing damage when drilling out cement or plugs—ultimately protecting well-integrity and possibly even preventing well-control incidents down the road. Our hydraulic programs are modeled to make certain that the flow pattern is well within the operational limits of the rig, eliminating the chances of critical equipment failures caused by unexpected pressure surges. The HSE safeguards that are intrinsic to the CLEARMAX system extend to our fluid formulations. All of our wellbore cleanup chemical packages are engineered to be nonhazardous and nonflammable. They contain no benzene, toluene, xylene or other chemicals that can be hazardous to rig personnel or the environment. Another safety advantage is the CLEARMAX liner-top test packer (LTTP), which enables the testing (negative) of a liner overlap and shoe track on the same run as the main wellbore clean-up without setting potentially damaging weight on the liner overlap. Not only does this tool eliminate a dedicated run, but more importantly, the LTTP validates the wellbore integrity. This validation assures that the wellbore can be safely displaced to lower density completion fluid. This technology is run with Weatherford’s MAX-Blade™ tool to scrape the packer-setting area, greatly increasing the probability of a good annular packer seal. MAX-Brush™ Tool MAX-Force™ tool MAX-Blade tool CLEARMAX Liner-Top Test Packer CLEARMAX Retriever With the CLEARMAX system, the environment also wins because cleaning spacers designed for one-pass displacements means that fewer chemicals are used, in turn reducing the waste volume that must be processed. © 2011 Weatherford. Below are some examples of the benefits of the CLEARMAX system when integrated into other drilling applications. MAX-Force™ Magnets Remove Steel Cuttings from Offshore Well, Providing an Unobstructed Wellbore for Sidetracking Operations An operator working in Malaysia called on our CLEARMAX wellbore cleaning services to capture metal cuttings produced from cutting a window in 9 5/8-in. casing after setting the whipstock in an offshore well. The objective was to eliminate the accumulation of cuttings at the wellhead, which could have caused subsequent interference with the correct operation of the blowout preventers (BOPs). After cutting the casing exit window, we deployed three MAX-Force string magnets, which collected 55 lb (25 kg) of debris during the reaming trip, including some large debris in excess of 8 in. (20 cm) in diameter. The carrying capacity of the MAX-Force magnets enabled the operator to capture large volumes of cuttings debris, eliminating the need for additional intervention operations and enabling the operator to perform a sidetrack drilling operation on time, without additional cost. MAX-Blade™ Casing Scraper Performs Wellbore Cleaning in Single Trip, Saving Rig Time Our CLEARMAX wellbore cleaning services performed a successful cleanout trip in an onshore workover well in Kuwait, ensuring that the wellbore was clean and free of debris for running an expandable liner system. Our MAX-Blade casing scraper was run to 8,855 ft (2,699 m) total vertical depth and performed a successful cleanout trip of the wellbore—scraping and cleaning the casing behind the milling bottomhole assembly. We then successfully installed and tested our MetalSkin® cased-hole expandable liner. Running the MAX-Blade casing scraper during the mill run saved the operator from making an additional trip downhole, ultimately saving significant rig time and the associated expenses. MAX-Strata™ Tool Saves Operator US$2Million in Rig Time Offshore West Africa An operator offshore West Africa was experiencing significant mud cleanout problems in the riser in development wells drilled at water depths of 3,000 ft (914 m). Brine was channeling through the drilling fluid and not displacing properly. This occurrence was made worse by the low temperatures on the seabed viscosifying the fluid. A Weatherford design team’s solution was to create a physical barrier between the two fluids. Weatherford developed the MAX‑Strata riser wiper and fluid barrier tool as a solution to the channeling problem. The MAX‑Strata tool achieved 100 percent separation on the first run, while ensuring a clean riser surface, ultimately saving the operator approximately 3 days of rig time on each well, while achieving uncompromised production rates. 6 © 2011 Weatherford.
