Philips Fortimo LED Systems
for today, for tomorrow
Welcome to another first for Fortimo LED systems
I’m delighted to introduce the first edition of our Fortimo LED catalogue. It is a new initiative
that is designed to give you a detailed snapshot of our solutions to date. Inside you will find
an overview of our complete LED portfolio, including technical specifications for all Fortimo
products, Xitanium LED drivers, MASTER LEDlamps and refrigerated display lighting.
We will be updating the catalogue every quarter with new product releases to ensure that
the information you have is as accurate as possible. You can also find all our specifications at
www.philips.com/oem and in our e-Catalogue.
Philips Fortimo LED systems
Advances in LED lighting have already seen it being used in more ways than you may have thought possible. The Philips Fortimo LED
portfolio now includes a wide range of LED modules allowing you to specify LED products in almost every application. Our future-proof,
high quality Fortimo LED systems are based on five important building blocks, so you can be confident that the Fortimo LED systems will
always provide the best quality white light – for today, for tomorrow.
The world of lighting changes fast
As the quality for LED products improves rapidly, there is increasing pressure to speed up the introduction of new generation LED
products. We have been pro-active in this regard and in recent months have improved every aspect of our product launch process.
Not only do we track launch dates more rigorously, we are also following the sample process, initial stocks and data sheets more closely.
New solutions play a vital part in the way we support the luminaire industry and the whole team is passionate about getting the process
right. We hope that with this new catalogue we are meeting one of your needs. However, if you think there is something that could
improve our service even further, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Your feedback is always welcome.

High quality
of white light
“A luminaire that delivers high quality of white LED light is something that
luminaire manufacturers, specifiers, and end users nowadays all aim for, either
in design, specification or in usage. Not so long ago the quality of LED light was
inferior compared to other sources of lighting such as incandescent or halogen.
However, the Philips Fortimo LED modules have been leading the way when it
comes to LED lighting.”
Sandra Borba, Business Development Manager LED
“It is well recognised that LED lighting is significantly more energy efficient
compared to incandescent, halogen and compact fluorescent lighting. In 2011 it
has also reached and surpassed linear fluorescent efficacies. This will increase even
further during the development of LED lighting solutions in the coming years.
Besides quality, Philips Fortimo LED systems also aim to lead the way when it
comes to energy efficiency.”
Oliver Roesch, Business Development Manager LED
Smart system
approach
Leading energy
efficiency
“Philips Fortimo LED systems always include a choice of Xitanium drivers, which
are the brains behind the Fortimo system. Xitanium drivers are smart and
advanced and offer many advantages for luminaire manufacturers. Some of the
key features of Xitanium LED drivers are the adjustable output current, flexible
operating windows and NTC monitoring. A Fortimo module in combination with
a Xitanium driver is a truly smart system choice.”
Peter Halmans, Marketing Director OEM EMEA
“The vision of Philips Fortimo LED systems is constant innovation within fixed
dimensions and fixed lumen packages. As long as this defined format is used,
luminaire manufacturers can easily implement Fortimo Led modules with the
latest advances in LED energy efficiency, without having to change the driver,
the dimensions of the LED module or the lumen output.”
Annetta Kelso, Senior Marketing Manager Office Segment
Future proof
system
“Philips stands for high quality standards in all products and services brought to
the market, and this also applies to the Philips Fortimo LED systems. Extensive
research and testing is done prior to market introduction, but also during the
lifetime of a product.”
Joost van Laarhoven, Customer Care Manager OEM

Indoor | Linear light systems
The Fortimo LED strip system consists of linear white light LED modules, with high energy efficiency and high quality of light, Xitanium drivers and cables. It is intended
for luminaire manufacturers who want to replace linear fluorescent applications with new luminaire shapes and concepts of designer LED solutions.
It is now finally possible to design new luminaires, which offer the energy efficiency levels of T5 luminaires, combined with the design freedom to make entirely new
shapes, due to the scalability of the ‘notched’ LED strip concept.
Benefits:
• High quality white light LED modules, meeting the
European norms for office lighting
• Similar efficiency levels to T5 lamps
• 280 mm (1 foot) LED strips with a lumen package
carefully chosen to mimic T5 lumens per length,
allowing easy design-in to existing T5 luminaires
• Fortimo LED Strip can be connected together in
various orientations to make seamless light lines,
3D luminaires or other new shapes
• Fortimo LED Strips fall under the Philips future
proof promise, whereby future LED energy
efficiency upgrades do not change the LED Strip
dimensions, lumen output or colour temperature
Features:
• Fortimo LED Strip modules come as a system
with a new Xitanium 75 W 0.2-0.4 A 200 V TD
230 V driver, which has the same shape housing
as a T5 ballast for easy incorporation in to existing
luminaires
• Fortimo LED Strip has a low level of module
integration, whereby open voltage, ESD protection
and primary optics still need to be added,
allowing luminaire manufacturer to create more
differentiation in luminaire design
Applications:
• For use in Class 1 luminaires for direct lighting in
offices, banks, schools, public buildings, supermarkets
• Cell offices and meeting rooms
• Open-plan offices
• Reception areas and corridors

Xitanium LED Drivers
Indoor dimmable
Indoor | Dimmable
Xitanium and Fortimo LED Drivers are specially designed to operate LED solutions for general lighting applications such as downlighting, spot/accent lighting and linear
lighting. Flexibility in luminaire design is assured thanks to an adjustable output current (AOC) and, in most independent versions, a new modern 3-in-1 housing design.
The adjustable output current enables operation of various LED configurations from different LED manufacturers, as well as ensuring the solution can accommodate
new LED generations – making it “future-proof ”. There are special dimmable versions which enable the use of lighting controls for further energy savings
Benefits:
• Highly efficient LED drivers
• Adjustable output current (AOC)
• New “TD” version offers dynamic active cooling
(via PWM protocol), optimising energy efficiency
Features:
• The output current can be set by placing a resistor
on your LED PCB (Level 2 board)
• Versions with trailing edge (TE) and Touch & DALI
dimming protocols
• Temperature derating via negative thermal
coefficient (NTC)
• Most LED drivers integrate 12 V output for active
cooling
• New flexible housing design offering independent,
screw and click mounting
• Hot wiring (Xitanium types)
• Improved ripple current
Applications:
• Offices (more ‘prestigious’ spaces such as reception
areas, boardrooms, restaurants, etc.)
• Public buildings (airports, cinemas, theaters,
exhibition halls)
• High-end shops
• Retail (supermarkets, bakery/butcher’s shops,
leather goods, etc.)

Philips Surge Protection Device 277V
Outdoor
The Philips Surge Protection Device (SPD) 277V is the ideal solution to the challenge of using LEDs in Outdoor lighting. The SPD clamps the voltage at the terminals of
the luminaire, protecting the complete system against multiple nominal surges of up to 10 kV / 5 kA. For maximum-level of protection, the SPD can withstand a single
hit of 10 kV / 10 kA. The device also eliminates the need for all luminaire internal components – wires, connectors, wire nuts, etc. – to be designed to withstand 10 kV.
Essential for LED systems installed in high-risk areas, the advantages of using the SPD are not limited only to LED systems. The product can be used in any new or
existing lighting solution, regardless of technology.
Benefits:
• Maximise the lifetime value of outdoor
lighting applications
• No down-time due to calamities (storms,
lightning strikes, etc.)
• Lower maintenance costs
• Easy to apply in new or existing installations
• Peace of mind on product performance
Features:
• Resistant to peaks and surges of up to 10 kA /
10 kV
• Suitable for Class I and Class II luminaires
• Xtreme standard: long lifetime, robust protection
against moisture, vibration and temperature
extremes
• Can be used with all lighting technologies
Applications:
• Highways
• Rural roads
• Parking lots
• Area lighting

MASTER LEDcapsule LV G4
03. MASTER LEDlamps
Non-Dimmable
The MASTER LEDcapsule radiates warm light in all directions, making it a true alternative for the halogen capsule. It is particularly suitable for task lighting and
decorative applications in homes, shops, hotels and restaurants. Compatible with existing fixtures with G4 holders and designed for retrofit replacement of halogen
capsules, MASTER LEDcapsule delivers huge energy savings and minimises maintenance costs without any compromise on light quality.
Benefits:
• Long lifetime
• Good light distribution
• Short pay-back period
• Warm white light
• Up to 75% energy saving compared with
halogen lamps
• Lower maintenance costs
• Transformer compatibility: broad compatibility with
existing electronic and electromagnetic halogen
transformers (est. 99%; IC controlled transformers
are the only potential exception)
Features:
• Low energy consumption: 2.5 W → 10 W (12 V)
• Retrofittable (note: product will not fit in all existing
luminaires; compared to a halogen capsule this is
not always a perfect fit solution)
• Patented intelligent driver
• Removable lens to customise light to different
applications: with lens
for standard “light-all-around” applications, or
removed for directional spot-lighting applications
• UV- and IR-free light for less heat and protection
for heat-sensitive objects
• Free of mercury and hazardous materials
Applications:
• Application areas: hotels, restaurants, bars, cafés
(lobbies, corridors, stairwells, washrooms,
reception areas)

Philips Fortimo LED Systems
for today, for tomorrow.
The world of lighting will never be the same again. It is moving and moving fast. It is turning a sleepy
country lane into an ultra fast express highway. Creating light is something we, at Philips have done
for many years and, creating light with LED is something that excites us enormously. There are so
many more possibilities with LED lighting, but equally as many challenges. Despite these challenges,
we truly believe LED lighting is now ready to be used effectively in almost all lighting applications,
varying from accent lighting in a retail environment to office lighting at the higher efficiencies than
fluorescent lighting. And also street lighting is taking advantage of LED lighting by turning yellowish
outdoor light into white LED light and creating safer environments. The small size of LEDs also allows
for multiple interesting decorative LED lighting applications in home and hospitality environments.
LED is really here to stay and is already delivering breakthroughs in regular lighting applications.
And what currently are still unthinkable lighting applications will soon become reality. The Philips
Fortimo LED portfolio is already today, and will also be tomorrow, the LED module range for an
extensive variety of applications.
The Fortimo LED systems are all based on five
building blocks ensuring high quality products that
deliver the best quality of white light now and in
the future. Those building blocks are:

High Quality
of White Light
Sandra Borba, Business Development Manager LED
High Quality of White Light
A luminaire that delivers high quality of white LED
light is something that luminaire manufacturers,
specifiers, and end users nowadays all aim for, either
in design, specification or in usage. Not so long ago
the quality of LED light was inferior compared to
other sources of lighting such as incandescent or
halogen. However, the Philips Fortimo LED modules
have been leading the way when it comes to LED
lighting. Continuous upgrades and improvements have
allowed Fortimo LED systems to become one of the
most appreciated LED light sources in the industry.
The three critical measures that determine quality
of white light are colour-rendition (CRI), colour
consistency and beam uniformity.
Colour-rendering index (CRI)
The CRI value shows how well a particular light
source can reproduce the colours of various objects
faithfully, when compared to ideal light sources, like
the sun, which is classified with a CRI of 100. Lighting
in a fashion store has other needs compared to
lighting in an open office space. To give an example,
for fashion environments, special dedicated Fortimo
LED modules are available producing high CRIs
(90 to 100) to allow for ideal display of the colours
in the merchandise, whereas in office spaces a
colour rendition of between 80 and 90 has been
the standard in fluorescent lighting for years. . In an
industrial or storage environment a CRI of 50 can be
sufficient as the reproduction of colours accurately
is of less importance. Fortimo LED modules are
developed with f the deep knowledge and customer
insights of Philips and leading OEMs, complementary
partners and end-users, who understand lighting
and the impact lighting can have on people. This
ensures that LED lighting products will match specific
application requirements when it comes to colour
rendering.
Colour consistency
Colour consistency, defined in MacAdam ellipses
(SDCM) is an index of light quality. It measures and
describes the shift of white light colour between
LEDs and between different LED modules over
time. Achieving colour consistency is particularly
challenging in general illumination applications calling
for high-quality white light. Fortimo LED modules
are specified with a specific colour temperature
(CCT), which indicates how warm or cool the white
light colour is. Lower colour temperatures produce
a warm, golden white light colour, whereas higher
colour temperatures produce a more cooler, blueish
light colour.
Colour differences on a colour space are notated by
MacAdam ellipses, the sizes of which depend on the
number of colour deviation “steps” they represent.
Deviations of 1 step are not visible, 2 to 3 steps are
barely visible, and 4 to 5 or more steps are more
readily noticeable. Potential deviations in colour
temperature can be noticeable if they are too large.
The lower the standard deviation, the less perceptible
the colour shift will be. Most Fortimo LED modules
have a colour consistency of 3 SDCM, which is barely
perciptible to the eye, ensuring a high quality, even
spread of white light.
Beam uniformity.
Another element that determines the quality of
white light is beam uniformity. The Fortimo LED
module range ensures best-in-class beam uniformity
by a variety of techniques, one of which is remote
phosphor in combination with a mixing chamber.
For downlight modules the mixing chamber is
crucial to create this beam uniformity and for
spotlight modules the new silicone DomeTM delivers
a perfect uniformity. Both solutions deliver best
in class performance in efficiency gain and lowest
transmission loss in the industry. For LED lines in
offices different beam patterns can be created
depending on whether the LED Line 1 row module
is used or the LED Line 3 row module. All these
LED modules are Fortimo LED modules and we aim
to develop the best beam solution for each of the
applications.

halogen and compact fluorescent lighting. In 2011
it has also reached and surpassed linear fluorescent
efficacies. This will increase even further during the
development of LED lighting solutions in the coming
years. Besides quality, Philips Fortimo LED systems
also aim to lead the way when it comes to energy
efficiency. New generations of Fortimo LED modules
are introduced every nine to twelve months applying
the latest innovations that will guarantee consistency
in light output, but that aim to deliver even lower
energy consumption versus the previous generation.
As an example the Philips Fortimo LED downlight
module (DLM) 1100 lm generation 3 has reached
an efficacy of up to 100 lm/W, which is one of the
highest within the industry. Fortimo LED Line systems
have a specification of up to 118 lm/W, surpassing T5
systems. Total cost of ownership is not only reflected
in the actual energy consumption but also in the
initial cost of the total LED system. Ensuring that
LED system costs come down will help to stimulate
a more competitive Total Cost Ownership. Philips
Fortimo LED modules have consistently lowered
prices over the years, bringing attractive cost of
ownerships in reach, due to a combination of high
energy efficiency at sharp costs.
the Fortimo system. Xitanium drivers are smart and
advanced and offer many advantages for luminaire
manufacturers. One of the key features of Xitanium
LED drivers is the adjustable output current, offering
flexibility and future-proof Fortimo LED module
design. Adjustable output current enables a luminaire
manufacturer to set the lumen output and efficiency
of a Fortimo LED module to his own specification.
The output current can be set with a resistor inside
the Fortimo module, or with a programmable
Xitanium DALI driver.
Xitanium drivers work within operating windows,
whereby a particular Xitanium driver can be used
across different Fortimo module families and across
different lumen outputs. This supports and enables
the future proof aspect of Fortimo modules, making
module efficacy upgrades possible, whilst still keeping
the same driver used before.
Another smart feature of the Xitanium driver range
is the NTC (negative temperature coefficient) which
guards over the thermal temperatures reached near
the Fortimo module, regulating the light output
down if certain critical temperature points have been
exceeded, thereby assuring the lifetime and safety of
the system.
A Fortimo module in combination with a Xitanium
driver is a truly smart system choice

Future Proof System
It is apparent that many lighting companies struggle
to develop, manufacture and sell LED luminaires
when the LED technology itself is changing so
dramatically and so fast. Stable building blocks are
required. Philips recognised this already at an early

Reliability and high quality
Quality has already been the cornerstone for all
Philips products for decades. For many years already,
the Philips brand represents quality. Philips stands for
high quality standards in all products and services
brought to the market, and this also applies to the
Philips Fortimo LED systems. Extensive research
and testing is done prior to market introduction, but
also during the lifetime of a product. Although the
first practical use of LEDs was as indicator lighting in
the 1960s, today’s ultra-modern and highly reliable
stage and started to develop so called “future proof ”
modules already five years ago. The vision of Philips
Fortimo LED systems is constant innovation within
fixed dimensions format and includes a fixed optical
interface and fixed lumen packages. As long as this
defined format is used, luminaire manufacturers can
easily implement Fortimo LED modules with the
latest advances in LED energy efficiency, without
having to change the driver, the dimensions of the
LED module or the lumen output. This means that,
regardless which generation of LEDs is used inside
the Fortimo LED module, it will always maintain
the standardised lumen output. Therefore constant
innovation is possible and improvements in LED
solutions which are happening rapidly, still allow LED
modules or elements to be easily upgraded to the
next generation. This means performance upgrades
are introduced, but luminaire manufacturers do not
have to worry about changing the design of the
luminaire as module dimensions remain constant
along with the required light output.
LED lighting systems have their origins in the late
19th century – according to Philips. That’s when
Philips began laying down the basic methodologies
of Quality & Reliability (Q&R) in lighting. Over
the past 120 years Philips has built on those basic
principles, with its experience in electronics, optics,
thermal engineering and more. And today, all of
these disciplines play a crucial role in the success
of LED lighting solutions. It is a legacy of pioneering
expertise that has led to Philips becoming one of
the leading drivers of the LED lighting industry’s
standardization activities. And the evolution in LED
and Q&R continues. The challenges of light uniformity,
manufacturing, and colour consistency may have been
conquered, but with LED lighting, the LED lighting
industry has now entered the era of accelerated
innovation cycles. This requires even more pro-active
Q&R strategies in the four pillars of quality, covering
development, supplier selection, manufacturing and
customer care. The LED Q&R activities apply to
the Fortimo LED Systems and start with product
development according to strict milestone criteria
and statistical modeling. Relatively new are the
intelligent protection circuits that guard against
excessive conditions. In addition, there are extensive
life-testing methods, performed during product
development. Today’s Fortimo LED component
quality is optimised via careful scrutiny of suppliers,
and the rule of partnering only those that have
proven track-records, not just for LED components
but for suppliers of peripherals such as heatsinks and
optics.
For manufacturing, Philips deploys state-of-the-art
production techniques, not just in our own facilities
but also at our certified subcontractors. These are
constantly monitored by extensive process control
and tested by Philips engineers. Following that,
customer care activities support “Safe Launch” and
“Fast Feedback” processes to enable short learning
loops to development and production. All these
processes and combined expertise have resulted in
a very high LED quality performance of the Fortimo
LED systems portfolio.
Zhaga
In 2010, Philips was one of the leading initiators
behind the Zhaga initiative. Zhaga is an industry-wide
cooperation aimed at the development of standard
specifications for the mechanical and electrical
interfaces of LED light engines. An LED light engine
is a LED module with defined interfaces, that do not
depend on the type of LED technology used inside
the light engine. Zhaga will enable interchangeability
between similar products made by several
manufacturers. For more information, please visit
