During the installation of CorelDRAW ™ 8, the error "A required source file was not found..." may be
generated. This error message may occur more than once.
This occurs when one of more drives are running in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode.
To verify your computer is running in this mode, click Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double-click the System
icon, and click the Performance tab.
If any hard drives are running in this mode, contact your hardware vendor for assistance in resolving this
issue. When a CD-ROM drive is running in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode, it usually means that 16-bit drivers
are installed to run the hardware. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance in updating to 32-bit drivers.
When this all drives are running in 32-bit mode, proceed with the CorelDRAW 8 installation.
Answer:

Invalid Page Fault (IPFs) or Illegal Operation error messages are caused by a misallocation of available
memory by the operating system. Optimal performance of the computer can be achieved by following the
steps outlined in this document. Before attempting to diagnose and correct errors within the Windows r 95
environment, the following precautions are very strongly recommended:
1. Create a Startup disk to allow recovery of basic computer function in the event of complete system
failure. The startup disk may be created during the Windows 95 installation process or after installation is
complete by clicking Start, Settings, Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double-click Add-Remove
Programs, and click Startup Disk, Create. Follow the prompts to finish creating this disk.
2. Copy the SYSTEM.DAT, USER.DAT, CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files,
plus any necessary device drivers, i.e., CD-ROM drivers, to a folder on an additional diskette. Be sure to
label the diskettes.
Note: These files are essential to the operating system. If you are unsure about how to edit the contents of
these files, contact Microsoft Technical Support for further assistance. Do not skip this step!
Recovering lost files If the computer has failed from within an active Corel application, an attempt should be
made to save any files that are currently open. If the failure occurred while working in CorelDRAW, look for
.ABK or .BAK files. These are CorelDRAW autobackup files that may be renamed to a .CDR extension to
recover the open file. To rename a .BAK or .ABK file, perform the following steps:
1. Click Start, Programs, Windows Explorer.
2. Click the backup file, i.e., TEST.BAK.
3. Click File, Rename.
4. Type TEST.CDR, and press ENTER.
Note: The file must be renamed with a .CDR extension before exiting Windows 95.
Troubleshooting steps: An IPF may be eliminated by one of the following troubleshooting steps or by a
combination of these steps. Try to recreate the IPF error after completing each of the steps to determine
whether the problem has been resolved.
1. Exit all running applications. Click Start, Shut Down, Restart The Computer. When the computer has
rebooted, attempt to duplicate the error that caused the original failure.

2. Empty the Recycle Bin of unwanted files. Right-click the Recycle Bin icon, and click Empty Recycle Bin.

Using the operators ( ),*,+,-, / in conjunction with the values in the position and dimension boxes within the

Draw a 1"x1" square. Select the Horizontal coordinates on the Property Bar, and type in +2.75. Select
ENTER, and the box will move 2.75" to the right. If you type 2.75 mm, the box will move 2.75 mm.
The same holds true for the Dimension box. Using the 1"x1" square, type in +3*(2*3), and then select
ENTER. It will add 18 inches to the box.

To change screen frequencies for printed objects, screen printing or for printing t-shirts, follow the steps
below.
Please read the additional information section first before proceeding.
The object needs to be filled with a spot color before any frequencies can be set.
1. Select the object, click on the Fill tool and choose the Fill color dialogue button.
2. At the top of the Uniform Fill dialog box, click Fixed Palettes.
3 Under type, make sure PANTONE® Matching System™ is selected, and then select a color.
4. Select the Options button; if it is not there, click More.
5. Underneath Options, click PostScript® options, and select the appropriate type of halftone, frequency and
angle.
6. Click OK, then OK again.
If a two-color fill is needed, do the following:
1. Select the object, click the Fill tool and select the Fountain fill dialog box.
2. The “From” and “To” colors must both be from the PANTONE Matching System palette.
3. Click the color and select others, following steps #2 and # 3 (above) for each one selection.
4. Once colors are spot colors, the PostScript options button will become available.
5. Click the PostScript options button, and select the halftone type and frequency.
Note: unless you reduce the Tint of the selected PANTONE Matching System color to below 100%, you will
not see a half-tone pattern on the printed copy.
Outputting different screen frequencies is a capability of a PostScript printer. If you do not have a PostScript
printer driver, the application will still allow you to change the frequencies, but they will be ignored on output.
To determine if the printer driver is capable of PostScript output, click File, Print. If you see a PostScript tab,
then you are using a PostScript printer driver. If that option is not available, check with your manufacturer or
printer’s documentation to find out if your printer can be set up to print using the PostScript language.

To fit text to a path, a curve or an arc, do the following:
1. Open a new document in CorelDRAW™ 8.
2. Select the Ellipse tool, and draw a circle on the blank page.
3. Select the Text tool, single-click the page and then type in Artistic text.
4. Select both the text object and the elipse by clicking once on the text while holding down the Shift key.
Click the ellipse once.
5. Click the Text menu and select Fit Text To Path.
6. Additional placement and orientation options will become available on the Property bar. Adjust these as
desired.
The key to getting this feature to work is to make sure that the text and the path are selected at the same
time. You cannot fit text to a path if any of the following objects are selected:

fault in module FPXLIB.DLL”.
This error message can be sometimes followed by another message: “Cannot find the file ... (or one of its
components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available”.
When trying to open or import the file into Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8 or CorelDRAW 8 you may recieve the
following message: “Cannot access this file because it is being used by another process”.
These errors may occur when opening *.fpx files created by a Kodak digital
camera, if the files were transferred from the camera’s flash memory card directly to the hard drive.

Resolution # 1: Set the file attributes to READ ONLY
1. Right-click the FlashPix file, and then select Properties.
2. At the bottom of the Properties dialog box, set the file attribute to READ ONLY.
3. Click OK.
4. Open or import the FlashPix file into the application.
Resolution # 2: Download the *.fpx images from the camera using the File, Acquire function or the Kodak
Picture Easy software that came with the camera.
To acquire the images using any of the above listed programs, do the following:
1. Install the Kodak camera software on your computer.

3. Click the Select Source, and select the Kodak camera from the list.

The purpose of this document is to explain and clarify the differences and similarities between the three
types of Encapsulated Postscript files that the CorelDRAW™ 7 Suite will support. The three types are
Encapsulated Postscript (EPS), Postscript Interpreted (PS, PRN, EPS) and Adobe Illustrator (AI).
Answer:
Encapsulated PostScript (EPS)
EPS is the filename extension for Encapsulated PostScript files. PostScript is a page description language.
This language interprets to PostScript code information describing page layout, graphics and bitmaps. This
code can be viewed and edited in most standard text editors. EPS is a device independent, cross-platform
file type. For example, files can be created on the MacIntosh® system, exported as EPS, and opened and
printed on a PC based system. CorelDRAW 7 and Corel PHOTO-PAINT™ 7 can import and export EPS
files.
The CorelDRAW 7 Suite uses an EPS Placeable format. This means that when exporting as an EPS file,
users will have the option to export with or without an Image Header.
An Image Header can best be described as a low resolution image that is displayed as a reference for
placement purposes only. This image will be the same size as the original artwork and will print in its full
resolution when printing to a PostScript Printer. The EPS information remains attached to the image header
and is used when the image is printed to a PostScript printer. The bounding box is determined by the outer
most limits of the file and is used to display the size of the image for placement purposes. The exporting
application automatically determines the size of the bounding box. The EPS Placeable format is intended for
output only. Although the EPS file is editable in a text editor, it is not recommended that you do so. Editing
this PostScript file can result in possible data loss.
EPS Export Options
Image Header Options
The image header is either a Windows Metafile (WMF) or a TIF Bitmap (TIF). The user has the choice of
exporting with different headers. The image header can be black and white, 4 or 8 bit grayscale, or 4 or 8 bit
color. The image header can be exported at a resolution from 1 to 300 DPI.
Note: Some third-party applications may have a limitation on the image header size that you can import. If
this occurs, users may receive an error message stating that the file is too large.
In the interest of file size, it is recommended to export the image header at the default resolution of 72 DPI.
Even though the header appears in a low resolution on screen, the file will output in full resolution to a
PostScript printer.
The file may also be exported without an image header. This will decrease file size, however, a
representation of the artwork will not be displayed.
Instead, a grey box, the same size as the bounding box for the artwork will be displayed. In the CorelDRAW
7 suite, the gray box will display the filename and the application which it was created in.
EPS Text Options
When exporting as EPS Placeable from the CorelDRAW 7 Suite, the option to export text as Curves or Text
will be given. If Curves is chosen, then the text in the file will not be editable for any future revisions. If the
Text option is chosen, point size and font information should be maintained.
The option to Include Fonts will also be available. Enabling this check box will download the font into the
EPS file. No fonts will be downloaded if you export text as curves.
Note: If a font used in the file is not resident on the printer or has not been embedded into the file, either the
text will print in Courier, or the drawing will not print. If Type 1 Fonts are required it is necessary to ensure
that all fonts have been downloaded to your printer.
Other Options
Use Float Bounding Box: This option is a new feature in CorelDRAW 7. By nature an EPS bounding box is
specified in points. Decimals are not permitted. Therefore rounding up to 2 points is inevitable. This new
feature works around this limitation and outputs the bounding box with a greater degree of accuracy.
Auto Increase Fountain Steps: This option increases the number of steps that are used to render fountain
fills. This may increase printing time, but will reduce the risk of banding.
Maintain OPI: OPI stands for Open PrePress Interface. It is a method that positions high-resolution bitmaps
on the printed page by using low-resolution replicas. Two images are created using a high-quality scanner.
The bureau scans the image and places it on a OPI server (this is a high end server software). A highresolution version, which is kept on file and a low-resolution equivalent. The low-resolution image is
imported into your documents and used for placement purposes. Working with OPI will help reduce the
document size and the time needed to redraw the screen. At the time of final output, the high-resolution files
replace the low resolution version. All links will be maintained if this option is selected.
Convert Color Bitmaps to Grayscale: This option will do exactly as it implies. Use this setting when
outputting to black and white printers.
Use Color Profile: This option will export the document using the current color profile for your printer as
defined by the Corel Color Manager.
EPS Auto Trapping Options
Two choices for Auto Trapping are given as options in the EPS Export dialog box. Always Overprint Black:
This option creates a color trap by causing any object that contains 95% black or more to overprint any
underlying objects.
Auto-spreading: This option creates color trapping by assigning an outline to an object that is the same color
as its fill, and having it overprint underlying objects.
EPS Export Limitations
In the CorelDRAW 7 Suite, EPS headers will change in size depending on the specified resolution of the
headers. To ensure accurate placement, export the file with the image header resolution at the default 72
DPI.
EPS files exported from Windows NT® 3.51 can not be reimported in CorelDRAW 7 using the PostScript
Interpreted filter.
The CorelDraw 7 Suite can only export single pages within an EPS file but it can import multiple page EPS
documents created in other application
EPS Import Limitations
If a file is imported which contains large or complex gradient fills, a very large number of objects may be
generated. This is due to the way PostScript describes gradient fills. This may result in a a very large file
size.
EPS file formats may not import correctly using the All Files import option. To import EPS files, ensure that
the appropriate filter type from the List Files of Type list box is selected.
EPS - Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I have exported using EPS as the file type, but now I need to go back and edit my artwork. When I import
the EPS file it is just a box on the screen. I cannot edit it and the resolution looks terrible. What did I do
wrong?
A. When you import an EPS file using the Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) filter, you will only be importing
the image header and not the actual file. In order to edit this file, import the EPS file using the PostScript
Interpreted filter.
Adobe Illustrator® EPS
AI is the filename extension for vector graphics files created using Adobe Illustrator®. The properties of this
filter type are similar to EPS, however, this format is intended to be used with vector art only. CorelDRAW 7,
Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7, and CorelDEPTH 7 can successfully import this filter type. The CorelDRAW 7 AI
filter provides full support for the following Adobe Illustrator formats: 6.x, 5.x, 4.x, 3.x, 1.1 and 88. This filter
type is also cross-platform, meaning it can be imported by both PC and MacIntosh systems.
AI Export Options
Text Options
The text options are similar to EPS, except that the option to Include Fonts is not available. The choices will
be Text as Text or Text as Curves. As stated above, if the text is exported as Curves the text will not be
editable.
Other Options
Simulate Outline Effects: This option is a useful setting if the document contains outline effects such as
arrowheads, or dashed lines. If this setting is chosen the outline effects will not be editable in Adobe
Illustrator.
Convert Spot Colors to Process: This option will convert all spot colors in the file to their CMYK (Process)
color equivalents.
AI Export Limitations
On export the AI filter will create a separate EPS file for every bitmap contained within the original file. The
newly generated file is placed in the same folder, and is given a similar name, i.e.,. TEST.AI and
TEST1.EPS. Bitmap PowerClips, and the following fills; PostScript, full-color bitmap, two-color bitmap,
texture, interactive and transparency fills are ignored when exporting.
In General, AI files cannot support multiple layers or multiple pages. The exception to this rule is AI version
6.0 which will support multiple layers but not multiple pages.
Fountain fills will be exported as a series of filled bands, similar to the effect you get using the Blend feature.
The maximum number of bands supported is 50. The number of bands is determined by the Preview
Fountain Steps setting on the Display tab of the Tools, Options dialog box.
Arrowhead line caps are simulated by drawing the caps as separate objects. End caps either Round or
Square will be lost upon export.
Fit Text to Path is supported, however, each character will be exported as a separate text string.
If a text object contains characters with special attributes, ie kerning, rotation, typeface changes, and
scaling, then each letter will be exported as a separate object and then converted to curves.
AI Suggestions
To make the export conversion easier, avoid combining objects in your file.
During the export conversion, objects can become complex, making it much more difficult to edit. To avoid
this problem, save a copy of the file in .CDR format and use CorelDRAW to edit the file.
If exported text displays in another font (usually the default font) or prints in Courier, export the file again
with Export Text as Curves enabled in the Export AI dialog box. This option should be selected whenever
your file contains a font not available in Adobe Illustrator.
AI vs. EPS
The AI format is a subset of the .EPS format that the CorelDRAW 7 Suite also exports. When you export to
AI, you may sacrifice some of the drawing effects that only EPS supports. Therefore, if the intention is to
print the file in a desktop publishing program like Corel VENTURA™ or Adobe PageMaker®, then export the
file using the EPS filter instead of the AI filter.
AI - Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When I import AI files into CorelDRAW 7, I cannot make any changes to the graphic. It seems impossible
to select a single object from the imported graphic. How can I do this?
A. Imported AI graphics will open into CorelDRAW 7 as a group of objects. Click Arrange, Ungroup in order
to separately manipulate and edit the objects.
Q. Why do my line caps and corners dropped out of my file when I import it into Adobe Illustrator?
A. It is possible to accurately reproduce calligraphic outlines, corner styles, and line caps. To do this, click
Tools, Options, Text and enable the Calligraphic Text check box. The outlines will export as a group of
polygons which match the appearance of the outlines in the application. This will significantly add to the size
of the exported file.
Q. I created a fountain fill from 100 Cyan to 100 yellow. I then exported the fountain filled object as an AI
file. After importing it back into CorelDRAW 7, why did all the colors shift to the RGB space?
A. Although the AI filter will hold the CMYK color space when exported out of CorelDRAW 7, it is limited
when importing vector objects into CorelDRAW 7. On import it will convert vector objects to RGB color. This
will also happen with Pantone® colors. The Pantone colors are supported on export but on import the
Pantone colors will be mapped to the RGB color space. Open this file in Adobe Illustrator and the
appropriate values should be maintained.
Q. I have created a small CDR file that contains some fountain fills, text and blends. The CDR is
approximately 25 KB in size. When I export the file as an AI and look at the file size using Windows Explorer
it shows a file size of approximately 35 MB in size. Why is the file size so large?
A. This issue is related to the fountain fills in the file. The fountain fills are exported as a series of filled
bands which can greatly increase the size of the AI file. Try exporting the original file as AI version 6.0. This
version should reduce the file size because it supports most fountain fills. Other versions of AI only simulate
the fountain fills.
POSTSCRIPT INTERPRETED
CorelDRAW 7 and Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7.0 can import PostScript Interpreted files. This filter is used
primarily for interpreting print files (.PRN) and editing the actual image of an EPS file.
PostScript Interpreted will import the files in the following formats; EPS, PS, and PRN.
PS Import Limitations
If the file being imported contains Type 1 fonts, then the text will lose the font and style information when
imported into CorelDRAW 7 using the PS filter.
This usually happens when importing EPS files because when the text was exported to EPS, a font name
and style that is known to the printer, but not known to the system was assigned. When importing this
document back into CorelDRAW, the font style and font name cannot be found. Even though the font may
not look correct, the text will still be editable.
This differs from text created using TrueType fonts. If TrueType text is exported as text without selecting
include fonts, then the text will be imported as curves automatically.

When a bitmap image is used in desktop publishing applications, it is
usually in the shape of rectangle. This does not have to be the case when
using Corel applications because there are several different ways of making the background pixels of the
image transparent so that the graphics laying behind the image will show through the bitmap. Eliminating a
color can also alter the apparent shape of the bitmap. For example: if the Bitmap Color Mask is applied to
the black background of a bitmap containing red text, the bitmap appears to take on the shape of the text
only. The bitmap does retain its original rectangular shape, however it will print and display without the black
background. This document will outline several methods for creating transparent backgrounds on bitmaps.

Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) in Corel PHOTO-PAINT and
CorelDRAW
The following method could be used to turn a CorelDRAW or Corel
PHOTO-PAINT graphic into a bitmap image (CompuServe GIF) with a
transparent background.
A bitmap image can be saved as a GIF file with a transparent background. When saving the file as a
CompuServe GIF be sure that the Image has been converted to 256 colors .
In Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8:
1. Open the bitmap image.
2. Click File, Save As.
3. Select CompuServe Bitmap (GIF) format from the Save As Type list box, and click the Save button.
4. In the Gif Export dialog box enable the Image Color box. Select the eye dropper tool and click on the
desired color in the Original preview window and then click on OK.
In Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8 there is also an option to select Masked Area. If
the image contains a mask, select this option and everything outside the
mask will be designated as transparent. Note that the "Transparent Color" can also be changed by clicking
on the Color Table button. When the image is imported into an application that does not support GIF
transparencies, this will be the background color that is displayed.
In CorelDRAW 8:
1. Import the bitmap image into an existing document.
2. Click File, Export.
3. Select the CompuServe Bitmap (GIF) format from the Save As Type list box, and click Export.
4. In the Bitmap Export dialog box select the desired bitmap settings. Internet graphics in the GIF format are
usually Paletted (8-bit) with a resolution of 96dpi. Click on the OK button.
5. In the Gif Export dialog box enable the Image Color box. Select the eye dropper tool and click on the
desired color in the Original preview window and then click on OK.
Note: the Masked Area option is not available when exporting to the GIF file format from CorelDRAW 8.
Removing Bitmap Backgrounds using the *.CPT filter
Note: This method works best with images that contain backgrounds of a single color.
1. Open the image in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8.
2. Click on the Mask Tool with the left mouse button and hold. From the Mask fly out select the Magic Wand
Mask Tool.
3. Using the Magic Wand Mask Tool, click on the color background on the open image.
4. Click on the Mask menu, and select Invert.
5. Click on the Edit menu, and select Copy.
6. Click on the Edit menu, select Paste, As New Document. Or, click on File, New From Clipboard.
7. Save the file as a Corel PHOTO-PAINT Image (CPT)
8. Import the file into CorelDRAW 8.
Removing Bitmap Backgrounds using Clipping Paths/Masks
EPS Method:
This method does not support CMYK 32 bit color bitmaps.
1. In Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8, open an image.
2. Using the Mask tools, create a Mask around the desired area.
Note: If using a Clipping Path it is not necessary to create a Mask.
3. Click File, Save As. Save the file as Encapsulated PostScript *.EPS.
4. In the EPS Export Options, enable the Include Header, Save Image Enclosed by Mask, and Crop Image
to Mask Path When Saving check
boxes.
Note: If working with a Clipping Path instead of a Mask, click Save Image Enclosed by Path instead of Save
Image Enclosed by Mask.
6. Click OK.
7. Open CorelDRAW 8.
8. Import the *.EPS file using the PostScript Interpreted filter (*.PS).
Note: If the EPS file is imported as Encapsulated Postscript, the background will not be transparent on the
display. This is only the header of the EPS file. The background will print as transparent when output to a
Postscript device.
Mask Method:
1. In Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8, open an image.
2. Using the Mask tools, create a Mask around the desired area.
3. Click File, Save As. Save the file to any one of the following popular file formats: Corel PHOTO-PAINT
(CPT), TIF Bitmap (TIF), Adobe¬ Photoshop¬ (PSD).
4. When importing this file into CorelDRAW 8, the unmasked area of the image will be transparent.
Removing Bitmap Backgrounds using the Shape Tool:
Bitmaps that are imported into CorelDRAW 8 can have their rectangular backgrounds cropped, by editing
their shape using the Shape tool.
1. Import the bitmap into CorelDRAW 8.
2. Click the bitmap with the Pick tool, and click the Shape tool. Nodes will appear around the bitmap.
3. Click and drag a node with the Shape tool. This will bend and crop the image.
4. To increase the number of nodes around the bitmap, click the desired spot and press the + button found
on the property bar.
5. The newly created node(s) can be moved with the Shape tool to crop the unwanted background.
Note: This bitmap will retain a rectangular shape if exported in a bitmap format. To keep this effect, save the
file as a CDR, CMX or an EPS file. To import the EPS file into CorelDRAW, you must use the Postscript
Interpreted (PS) filter, instead of the EPS filter.
Transparent Bitmaps Using the "Convert To" Option
Graphics that are created in CorelDRAW 8 can be easily converted to
bitmaps.
1. Click the Graphic using the Pick tool.
2. Click Bitmap menu, Convert To.
3. This dialog box gives you the option to set the colors, resolution, dithering, anti-aliasing as well as make
the background transparent.
4. Enable the Transparent background check box.
Note: This transparency feature will only make a white background transparent. It does not give the option
to choose another color to make transparent. It can't make the background of an existing bitmap
transparent.

Accessing Symbols

Note: The CorelDRAW symbols can be accessed directly from CorelDRAW provided that all of the symbols
have been previously installed. If all of the symbols are not available to you, install the symbols in the same
manner you would install True Type fonts. The symbols are located on CD-ROM #1 in the
FONTS\SYMBOLS folder.
To access a Symbol:
1. Click View, Dockers, Symbols, or click on the Star icon on the ribbon bar.
2. The Symbols RollUp will appear. Locate the appropriate category for the desired symbol in the list box.
3. From the Clipart manual, locate the Symbol number and type it in the # list box. The chosen symbol will
be highlighted.
4. Drag and drop the symbol onto the document.
Templates
Templates are found on CD-ROM #1 in the TEMPLATE folder. To access a Template, click File, New From
Template, click CorelDRAW templates, and click next. Choose from a list of available templates.
Photos and Bitmaps
Photos and Bitmaps can be found on CD-ROM #3. Photos are in the
PHOTOS folder and the Bitmaps are located under the IMAGES folder. To
access them, click File, Import, and click Wavelet Compressed Bitmap (WI) for photos and TIFF Bitmaps
(TIF) for all other bitmaps in the Files of Type list box. Refer to the Clipart manual to properly associate the
desired image to its respective category.
Floating Objects
Floating Objects are found on CD-ROM #3 in the OBJECTS folder. To
access them, they must be opened in Corel PHOTO PAINT or imported
into CorelDRAW.
3D Models
There are 2 types of 3D Models located on CD-ROM #3. The first one is in
the 3DMODELS\D3D folder and can be opened in CorelDREAM 3D. In
CorelDREAM 3D a scene must be rendered in order to save the file as a
bitmap image. Refer to the online Help in CorelDREAM 3D, or the
CorelDREAM 3D tutorial for instructions about rendering a scene. Once the file is saved as a bitmap image
it can be imported into CorelDRAW. The other type of 3D model is located in the 3DMODELS\3DMF folder.

When creating a barcode using ISBN and after entering 9 digits a message appears saying "Input is not
complete".

The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) has a specific structure.It is
made up of 10 digits (the nine that are requested in Barcode and a check digit that is discarded)plus an
"Add On" of 2 or 5 digits..To complete the message you must include a fixed 3 country code "978".
The format for entering the first 9 digits is "x-xxxx-xxxx".
To do this in Barcode Wizard.......
Choose ISBN from the Industry Standard dropdown.
Enter a 9 digit number using the "x-xxxx-xxxx" format.
Choose "Next".
Choose "Advanced"command button.
In the Advanced options dialog choose "978 attached " radio button.
Choose"OK".
In Barcode Wizard choose the "Back" command button.
You can now enter the 2 OR 5 digit "Add On".

Import a bitmap and convert it to Duotone 8 bit, then add as default Pantone Process Black and Pantone

colors from 45 to 15. If you print this way you will see the same result in the preview but it solves the

I am having a problem understanding how to use layers and remove backgrounds. I have scanned in
several pieces of graphics and I want to remove the backgrounds of the graphics and make them
transparent. I went in and erased the areas and filed them as jpg's.
When I inserted them into other graphics, they came with the background borders. All I wanted are the
objects. I am using CorelDRAW 8 and bitmaps.

When you scan something it is a Bitmap that consists of x and y dimensions and is made up of pixels. There
is no vector or line info in the file. This makes it hard to make the
background disappear. Document number 3459 gives instructions on how to make that background
transparent.

I use Corel Draw to produce scientific posters, slides and figures for publication. Is there an easy way to
make global changes to multiple objects, either identical objects or those with an identical property
(e.g., size, shape). For example I recently had a graph with over 400 data points in series linked by lines some filled circles, some not. My supervisor decided each data point should be 2mm x 2mm instead of 2.5
x2.5 so I had to change each point individually. Something like a find
and replace dialogue (in Word), or copy properties that includes size or shape etc would be fantastic. Or, (I
currently use Corel Draw 8) is there a repeat command that automatically repeats the last performed
command, so that having resized one object I could select the next and repeat the resize. I find CTRL-r only
works for some things, especially colors.

User is unable to create text that is greater than 3000 points - that is about 30 inches in CorelDraw 8. User
can't even transform the text object by pulling the corner handles. This worked in the original 8.232 and

Two solutions
1. Convert the text to curves, and then resize. This works fine if the user doesn't need to edit the text in the
future.
2. This other solution actually uses another known issue to help workaround this problem
- Type your artistic text on the page in CorelDRAW, any size is fine
- Create a rectangle (or other object) on the top of the text object
( withing the text's bounding box is a good idea)
- Group the text object and the rectangle together
You can now either increase the size by dragging the corner handles of the object group, or by entering inch
dimensions in the trasnform rollup. Once you have it set to the desired size, you can ungroup the objects
and delete the rectangle. The text remains editable.

On the right side of dialogue box find the Auto-Close option button
Drag this button to the Property Bar
Select the line to be closed and click on Auto-Close
Then you can fill the object
Click on Auto-Close, the object can now be filled

Select File - Print
Choose the PostScript Tab and adjust the screen frequency at the bottom of the dialogue box

that the screen frequency is the same

it on 'OFF".

Problem
In Ventura when selecting Insert Symbol, the WP Typographic font is not listed. It is listed in the fonts list
however.
In DRAW 8, 9, 10, when you open the symbols and special characters docker it is not listed if only symbols
are selected. If the docker displays ttf fonts, type 1 fonts, ttf symbols and type1 symbols then it is visible.
Answer:
Install the Wp typographic font from the WP 7 cd. This is still seen as a symbol.

The font had to be changed for copyright reasons and after that it was no longer visible in the symbols list
Making a backup of your Workspace.

The Workspace in CorelDRAW stores all of the customized settings for toolbars, menus, Options and the
Dockers\Roll-ups.
Sometimes one of these components may become corrupt.
At this point it needs to be reset to fix the problem and all customization would be lost for this particular
component, unless you have a backup.
Click Tools\Options, select Workspace.
Click on New
Enter a name for the new workspace.
Base this new workspace on your existing workspace.
Uncheck the box that says "Set as current Workspace"
Click O.K.
At any point you can come back to this section, select your "Workspace Name" and select "Set as current".
To make a manual backup.
For each workspace created, a folder and a file of the same name are created underneath your Profile in
Windows.
Open up windows Explorer, switch to the following location.
For Windows 2000
C:\Documents and Settings\"ProfileName"\ApplicationData\CorelCorelDRAW10
For Windows 95, 98, NT, ME
C:\Windows\Profiles\"ProfileName"\ApplicationData\Corel\CorelDRAW10
Select the folder called
"Name" and the file called
"Name".CW_
Copy these files to another location where you want to keep the back-up.
TARGA BITMAP (TGA) EXPORT SAVES IN ENHANCED MODE EVEN THOUGH NORMAL
IS SELECTED

Problem
This issue relates to the targa bitmap export for versions 8, 9 and 10 of CorelDRAW. Files exported in
normal mode are still saved in enhanced mode. Follow these steps to resolve the issue when saving files of
this type
Answer:
1. Click File-Export. Select TGA - Targa Bitmap from Files of Type. Click Export and the Bitmap Export
dialog will appear.
2. Deselect Transparent Background. This feature is not supported when exporting to normal mode. Click
on OK.
3. In the TGA Export dialog, select Normal for the File Format.
4. The file will now be saved in normal mode

Problem
After the installation of a new application all the graphics files (ie. jpg, tif, gif, bmp) are associated with the
new application.
Answer:
Click Start, Find, Files or Folders (or Start, Search, for files or folders). Type in *.jpg or the desired file
extension (ie. bmp, tif, gif, etc..)that needs to be changed. In the search results single click a file, then hold
the shift key and right click that same file. Choose "Open With" from the menu that appears. Choose the
application that should open this file type (ie. Internet Explorer, Microsoft Paint, etc) Place a check in the
box beside "Always use this program to open these files". Click OK. Now all files of that extension will open
with that application.

Problem
The toolbar, menubar or color palettes are missing when the program is opened.
Answer:
Set the program back to the factory default settings. Close the program, hold the F8 key and reopen the
application. Hold the F8 until a message appears saying, "Are you sure you want to overwrite the current
workspace with the factory defaults?"
Press yes and let go of the F8 key. If the message doesn't appear, the F8 key wasn't held down long
enough.

The Corel Uninstaller, located under Start, Programs, CorelDRAW™ 8, Setup and Notes, Uninstaller, may
not function correctly under certain conditions because of an incomplete or faulty installation.
The following sections will provide you with the instructions necessary to uninstall CorelDRAW 8. Note:
Before attempting a manual uninstall of CorelDRAW 8 from a system running Windows® 95, we strongly
recommend the following precautions:
* Create a startup disk to recover basic computer function in the event of a complete computer failure. The
startup disk can be created during the Windows 95 installation process, or by clicking Start, Settings,
Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon and click Startup Disk, Create.
* Copy the SYSTEM.DAT and the USER.DAT to a folder on the startup disk or to an additional disk if there
is not enough space. Both files are located in the root of the WINDOWS folder and can be used to restore
the Windows 95 registry if damaged.
Answer:
Removing Files
1. Click Start, Programs, Windows Explorer.
2. Double-click the drive letter on which CorelDRAW 8 was installed, i.e. C:\.
3. Double-click the COREL folder, and delete the GRAPHICS8 folder. Note: Folder names may differ if
destination names were modified by the user during installation.
Removing Registry Entries
1. Click Start, Run.
2. Type REGEDIT on the Open command line, and click OK.
3. Double-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
4. Double-click the SOFTWARE folder.
5. Double-click the COREL folder.
6. Double-click the CORELDRAW folder.
7. Click the 8.0 folder, and press DELETE.
Removing Taskbar Entries
1. Click Start, Settings, Taskbar.
2. Click Start Menu Programs, and click Remove.
3. Click the CorelDRAW 8 entry, and click Remove.
CorelDRAW 8 has now been removed from the computer.
