With access to an extensive global team of over 100
award winning writers and photographers across five
continents’ Agency Fish ensures your publications
editorial is first run and of the highest possible
standard.
Agency Fish produces editorial content in over 20
languages. Our design of Arabic/ English bi-lingual
editorial can negate the need to duplicate content,
harmoniously integrating the two languages and
enticing the reader to explore the Arabic-language
features without affecting the final design.
Where appropriate we suggest translation and
transliteration options for consideration, or help in
drawing up guidelines.
Typographic Resources
Agency Fish has extensive experience working in
partnership with people and organizations.
These third-party relationships include the provision
of Arabic typographical design and creative direction
exclusively from the renowned Pascal Zoghbi,
international location photography from Toufic Araman,
and highly popular in-flight exclusive features.
Agency Fish use sets of English/Arabic fonts that
have been specifically designed to work harmoniously
together. Most English fonts have a rough Arabic
equivalent, but few have been designed specifically to
work as a set; we work exclusively in partnership with
Pascal Zoghbi (see Creative Network), who is one of the
few Arabic type designers working specifically within
this field, to ensure type design is world class.

What makes a great surf photo?

The ingredients are pretty simple:
great waves, a great surfer and great
light. Combine all three and you’ll
come home with a photo that’s worth
hanging on your wall.
Rahasianya cukup sederhana:
gelombang besar, peselancar hebat,
dan cahaya ideal. Padukan unsur
tersebut dan Anda akan membawa
pulang foto yang layak pamer.
If you’re reading this in Indonesia, you’ve officially hit
the jackpot. Three factors have made the archipelago
the global capital of surfing: a constant open ocean
swell driven by huge storms in Antarctica colliding
with Indonesia’s southern coastline; consistent
seasonal trade winds blowing off-shore; and an
amazing variety of beaches, reefs and river mouths
which are perfectly designed to create the most
consistently rideable surfing waves on planet Earth.
Indonesia. Angin laut yang bertiup sepanjang musim,
deretan pantai yang mengagumkan, terumbu karang,
dan muara sungai seakan dirancang sempurna untuk
menciptakan ombak surfing terbaik di muka bumi.

To capture this photo of
Bali local Agus ‘Dag’ Sumertayasa,
I used a 16mm wide-angle lens
to take in the full view of this
cavernous barrel at Bingin Beach.
I used the aperture priority setting
at f7.1 and the autofocus set to
‘servo’. The shutter speed froze
the action at 1/1250th of a second
and I used the fill light/shadow
adjustment settings in Adobe
Lightroom to bring up the
shadows in the darker areas
of the frame and balance the
light and dark tones.

Because it’s tough to shoot
directly into the sun, it’s best to
set your camera on manual or
use exposure compensation for
a balanced exposure. Also change
your picture format from JPEG

in post-production for the perfect
balance. To capture this photo

Reliable encounters with
undersea wildlife, easy
access, great restaurants, a laidback nightlife and no traffic have
made the one of the most popular
spots in the world for scuba
divers to get certified.
5 Senses – Sight
Hiking
When the sun goes down, you’ll see the pinpricks
of stars glowing in the night sky instead of the glow
from Kuta’s busy nightspots. While it’s true that
Gili Trawangan has a cluster of small nightclubs
for the party people, it’s also true that a short ride
on a bicycle or horse cart will easily transport you
to a quiet stretch of sand where there’s not much
to do besides stare into the night sky and think
about the amazing wildlife you saw on your
scuba dives that day.
As I’m packing my bag to head back to Bali after
three days of amazing diving and exploration
around the Gilis, I’m thinking what an unusual and
special place this is. Just a couple of hours by boat
from Bali and I’m diving with rare and endangered
sealife, sampling some incredible local delicacies
and international favourites, and navigating a
beautiful tropical island by pedal power.
I can’t wait to go back again.
Gili Trawangan was originally
made famous by backpackers visiting
the island on a shoestring budget.
As Gili Trawangan has become
internationally famous, a variety
of boutique bars have set up shop
on the beach.
Sunset is one of the best times to be
on Gili Trawangan: take a stroll on the
beach or grab a bean bag and a cold
drink to take in the colours.
Take an afternoon hike
to the summit of Gili
Trawangan’s Bukit (‘hill’ in
Bahasa Indonesia). Reached
by a narrow trail extending
approximately 2km from the
south-east corner of the
island, it’s best to make this
short hike at sunset. You’ll
get great views of mainland
Lombok, the other Gili
islands and even Bali on
a clear day.
As Gili Trawangan hits the mainstream
tourist trail, some travellers complain that it’s
starting to lose some of the laid-back beachbungalow vibe that made it famous in the first
place. For those looking for a beach resort that
emphasises the beach, try Desa Dunia Beda.
Located on the north-west side of the island,
the resort is situated front and centre on the
most deserted beach I saw on Gili Trawangan.
You’ll stay in a traditional Javanese Joglo villa,
hand-carved from the finest teak wood and
appointed with an eclectic collection of
handicrafts. The resort (whose name translates
roughly as ‘A Different World Village’) is
especially popular with young families seeking
peace and privacy from the busier backpacker
and diver-oriented accommodation offered
on the other side of the island. The friendly
kitchen staff also prepare what must be the
fastest breakfast on Gili T. I never waited more
than five minutes for my food!
www.desaduniabeda.com
Seiring perkembangan Gili Trawangan
sebagai destinasi wisata para turis, beberapa
wisatawan mengeluhkan tentang sulitnya
menemukan suasana bungalow yang tenang
di tepi pantai padahal bungalow itulah yang
tadinya membuat tempat ini terkenal. Bagi
Anda yang mendambakan resor dengan pantai,
Anda bisa mencoba Desa Dunia Beda. Terletak

Mountain Train
All aboard the historic
1920 steam train for a
journey through stunning
rice fields, traditional
Javanese villages and
plantation life. From the
nearby Bedono Station
guests can glimpse and feel
the Colonial Dutch era.
This unique rail jaunt can be
combined with a trip to the
Gedong Songo temple, built
during the 8th and 9th
centuries when the Sanjaya
dynasty ruled Java.
Kereta api uap

1920 adalah kendaraan
unik untuk berpetualang
menelusuri hamparan
sawah, desa-desa tradisional
Jawa dan kegiatan di
perkebunan yang memukau.
Di Stasiun Bedono para
wisatawan bisa mengintip
sisa-sisa era penjajahan
Belanda. Tamasya unik ini
dapat dikombinasi dengan
perjalanan ke Candi Gedong
Songo yang dibangun di
abad ke-8 hingga ke-9 ketika
dinasti Sanjaya menguasai
tanah Jawa.
Cobalah mendaki ke
puncak bukit Gili Trawangan
di siang hari. Ada jalan kecil
sepanjang dua kilometer dari
sebelah tenggara pulau ini
yang lebih nyaman ditempuh
saat matahari tenggelam.
Dari puncak bukit ini, akan
terlihat indahnya Pulau
Lombok, kepulauan Gili
lainnya, dan bahkan Bali
di saat tak mendung.

As I awoke in the early morning, the
volcanic peaks of Central Java started
to reveal themselves. A backdrop of
eight volcanoes surrounded by swirly
mist slowly came into view and started
to take form, accompanied by the
stirring sounds of rural village life.
Java was awakening to greet the day.
In this ancient valley, powerful kingdoms with
Buddhist and Hindu roots built dynasties and created
beautiful architecture, which can still be seen today.
Between two historic and culturally significant cities,
Yogyakarta and Solo (Surakarta), a unique luxurious
wellness retreat, MesaStila, sits high above the valley,
commanding the best views for sipping a cup of
Javanese coffee.
As I sat enjoying this magnificent view, the scent
of the Robusta coffee beans from the adjoining coffee
plantation roasting house wafted past. Not only is
MesaStila a retreat into nature – blending awardwinning spa treatments with personalised daily
wellness programmes – but it also houses a
productive, working coffee plantation, which dates
back 180 years. In fact, every afternoon at the resort
a beautiful tea and coffee service is graciously served
in the historic 1920 Plantation Club House.
The rich, volcanic and fertile islands of Indonesia
produce some of the world’s finest coffee, and
to have the opportunity to see how coffee actually
gets from the coffee bush to the final stage of roasting
and grinding gives you an appreciation of the end
result. Traditional Javanese processing techniques
and equipment are still used on the plantation,
and for someone like me, a city dweller, I found this
fascinating. From wandering through the coffee
fields, to browsing the stately library housing beautiful
historic books on early Dutch times and Indonesian
culture, one feels the historic essence of a bygone era.
Central Java can be explored in many directions
from the doorstep of MesaStila. Your day starts with
a dose of Javanese Jamu, a traditional herbal medicinal
tonic designed to enhance your physical, mental and
spiritual wellbeing. Served with breakfast you have
five choices of Jamu, prepared by the in-house Jamu
master. With a focus on health, this is a great way to
energise yourself with a feeling of vitality that stays
with you all day.
Adventure beckons with the world’s largest
Buddhist monument, Borobudur, and the glorious
Prambanan Hindu temple complex only an hour
away. These are two of Indonesia’s premier tourist
hotspots; however, there is a lesser-known plateau
region called the Dieng Plateau that reveals small
hidden temples and original statues built as early
as the 5th century. Dieng means ‘abode of the Gods’,
and this high plateau region carries an elevated air
of mysticism and spiritual power. Walking (and horse)
trails lead from the Gedong Songo temple with
mesmerising views taking in two of Java’s (sometimes)
smouldering volcanoes; Merapi and Merbabu.
A small collection of 9th-century Hindu shrines
dominates the stunning landscape and many are
situated close to the sulphur-rich coloured lake Telaga
Warna. The lake is alive with sulphuric action and in
fact it’s quite noisy, as a mass of gas bubbles pop and
squeak their way to the surface. Within the volcanic
complex, several ash cone towers are dotted around,
some as high as 300 metres – a unique sight indeed.
Spiritual rejuvenation can be incorporated daily at
MesaStila, and after visiting ancient temples, maybe
yoga or mindful meditation might take your fancy?
