hind the Wellington County
Museum managed to finish
their exercise without getting
soaked.
They came walking dogs, or, in the case of Mayor Joanne
Ross-Zuj, were pulled by their
eager pups - and others had
youngsters in stollers.
Donna Ross, who worked in
the past with Olympic athletes,
introduced Ohenewa Akuffo, a
wrestler in the 72kg class, and
Paralympic Swimmer Darda
Sales, to the group.
Akuffo was born in
Toronto and now lives in
Brampton, where she pursues a
Bachelor of Administrative
Studies with honors in marketing,
while
completing
Certificate of Management and
Sports Administration at York
University.
Her achievements include
being inducted this year into
the 2009 Brampton Hall of
Fame, winning a bronze medal
at
the
2008
World
Championships in Tokyo and
representing Canada at the
2008 Olympic Games in
Beijing.
Akuffo told the crowd she is
used to regular exercise because she approaches it from
an athletic point of view. She
said she was very impressed to
see people coming out to exercise and stay in shape.
“You guys chose to be here
for your own health and fitness,” she said, adding, “Keep
up the good work.”
Ate age 9, Sales met three
athletes at her first swim meet
who were training for the Paralympics Games in Barcelona
and they inspired her. She has
been representing Canada

And, she admitted, “I was a little bit lazy.”
She took to the water and
now is proud to have been able
to “swim for Canada.”
Before taking off on the
trail walk, participants play ed
some athletic trivia and won
prizes. Several, including
Centre Wellington councillor
Bob Foster, won a pedometer.
Others picked up frisbees for
their knowledge and many
were tossing them back and
forth as the walk began.
Tommy Godson, 5, of
Fergus, was the youngest winner. He won for being the only
one present to also take part in
the annual Terry Fox Run.

Prize winner - Organizers at the In Motion trail walk on Oct. 2
offered a number of prizes for various fitness achievements or trivia knowledge. Tommy Godson, 5, of Fergus, was the only one of the
50 or more walkers who had also taken part in the Terry Fox Run.
For that, he won a frisbee.
Olympians walking - Centre Wellington has always arranged to have Olympic athletes at its In Motion events to encourage fitness. Donna
Ross, centre, invited Ohenewa Akuffo, an Olympic wrestler, left, and Darda Sales, a Paralympic swimmer, to the Oct. 3 In Motion trail walk
that started behind the Wellington County Museum.
