Maybe that person is your hubby. Perhaps, she is your teenage child, mother-in-law, neighbor, or, best yet, someone you know well or even just met in SAAMOM! I encourage you to reach out to that person in any way you can. Sometimes a quick phone call, email, hug, or lunch date can change the course of someone’s day, month, or even year! As I help my three children sign, seal, and deliver their valentines this month, I can’t help but think how the SAAMOM board and its committees are the HEART of our amazing organization. They design your programs, book speakers for the events you attend, plan and organize seasonal parties, write and design the newsletter that arrives in your inbox each month, match you with a big or little sister, organize the Clothing and Equipment Sales that help you make or save money, and , the list goes on and on. Without them, SAAMOM would hardly have a beating pulse. So isn’t it sweet that February is the time to elect “fresh blood” to our organization. At the general meeting, we will elect our 2010 Board and Committee Chairs. I invite you to come to the meeting so your vote counts. I also invite you to consider making 2010 the year you share your time and talents helping other parents having and raising their twins, triplets and more! What an easy and fun way to meet others! Remember, you MAY co-chair most positions. Also, if you are interested in running, but cannot make the meeting, that is okay! Simply email Sheri or Tiffany with your interests at membership@saamom.org. For a complete list and description of positions, please see page 6. Life is hectic no matter how old your multiples are but, hearing from a “survivor” of those first 12 months (YES! There is light at the end of the tunnel!) can make a huge difference for a new mother of multiples. Take that Oprah Magazine headline, “YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK” and tell that to your little sister. She might just need some words of encouragement! ■ SAAMOM — February 2010 — Page 4 Multiple Issues General Meetings Laura Nivin & Kim Pruitt, Co- VPs Programs February Meeting Thursday, February 11th University United Methodist Church 7:00 p.m.—9:00 p.m. 1st Floor Children’s Wing—Room 1001 We will be having every woman’s favorite ... chocolate and jewelry! Texas Mothers of Multiples will celebrate their 37th Annual Convention in Dallas on APRIL 22-25, 2010 and the theme is MOMs Night Out. The Garland Area Mothers of Twins Club is hosting at the Radisson Dallas East (11350 LBJ Freeway @ Jupiter Road, Dallas, Texas 75238, 214-341-5400 or 1-800-346-0660). It is a wonderful facility with a great room rate of $95 for a quad. The registration fee is $30 before March 15 so hurry and get that form in. The late fee goes up to $50 this year. The Garland MOTC has planned a great Convention. Activities include a shopping trip, dinner and rodeo, a siblings panel luncheon and, of course, the TMOM installation dinner themed Diva Divine Dinner. Workshops include Play Therapy, Organization, First Aid, Self Confidence in Children, Elementary to Jr. High Transition, College, NOMOTC, Make –n-Take Floozie Koozies, Decorating Children’s Rooms, and Photographing Children. In short, you can learn a lot at Convention plus enjoy a relaxing weekend only having to dress yourself. We sometimes describe it as a great big slumber party. It is fun, fun, fun. There are several new features to Convention this year. First, there will be Higher Order Multiples Luncheon on Friday. These MOMs asked and Garland NOMOTC delivered. Hopefully we will have enough MOMs attend to make it a permanent feature to Convention. Also, the hotel is offering TMOM attendees the opportunity to pre-purchase the full breakfast buffet for $7 each morning. The $7 includes beverages. The usual price is $9.99. One of the traditions for Convention is to purchase your TMOM badge and add a disc each time you attend Convention. This year you will need to pre-order your disc. There is a section for that on the registration form. If you are interested in attending this year’s TMOM Convention and would like to know about it, contact me at saamomjulie@msn.com. Let me know as soon as possible if you are interested so that I can help you find a roommate and get the carpools together. Thanks! Julie McGuire ■ March is for SAAMOM Mommy-Preneures Calling all mommy-preneuers! If you have a home-based business, business-on-the-side or simply want to promote your “other job”, SAAMOM is giving you the platform to showcase your work! SAAMOM invites you to take part in our mommy-preneuer event coming up at our March general meeting. From 6:30 - 7:30 PM, we will have tables which you may set up with your promotional material. Whether you do photography, make hair bows, or sell anything - books to hair bows, we would love to see it and shop it! We hope this is just another way we can support one another! If you are interested in having a booth, please contact me at president@saamom.org. The last half of the meeting will be SAAMOM’s Ages and Stages Roundtable Discussions! We’ll make it easy to find mommies whose kiddos are the same age. Share the joys and challenges of expecting or raising twins, triplets and/or more! Please join us!
