Silent Auction Rules
1. The Silent Auction will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2014 and the sections will close at
approximately 3:00, 3:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The live auction will start at 3:30 p.m. Each closing bid will be certified
by an Auction Official and constitutes the winning bid. Serious bidders should stand next to auction bid sheet until
Auction Official picks up bid sheet. Not all bid sheets are picked up at the EXACT closing time.
2. All items and services have been donated to Beverly Hills Bar Association and are sold by Beverly Hills Bar
Association and not the donor. Purchasers may not ask for refunds or exchanges from the donor. Auction
coordinators are not responsible for lost merchandise or certificates.
3. All purchases are final. NO RETURNS OR REFUNDS.
4. All Silent and Live Auction items and services must be used within the time limits specifically stated in the catalog
and are subject to the terms and conditions stipulated by the donors. Please note that all accommodations are
subject to availability. Exact dates and detailed conditions of stays in hotels must be arranged in advance by the
purchaser with the donor, keeping in mind that all black-out periods stated in the catalog and on certificates will
apply. All noted restrictions and expiration dates apply.
5. The Beverly Hills Bar Association assumes no responsibility should any of these establishments be unable to fulfill
your certificate.
6. In the event of a contested item, the last two individuals appearing on the bid sheet will participate in a sealed “bid
off.” This will be in written form. The decision of the Auction Official in this procedure will be final.
7. All gifts in the Silent Auction have bid sheets affixed nearby. Persons bidding must include their name, phone
number and bid amount on the sheet.
8. Winners will need to go up to the cashier table after the live auction is over to pay for their auction items. Items
purchased must be removed the evening of the event. Payments must be made at the time and may be made by
cash, checks made payable to Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA), Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
9. Please note minimum bids and increases in bid amounts for each item. Bids will be honored only if incremental
bidding is in accordance with the minimum increases. Bids below opening minimum bids will not be accepted.
10. The Auction Coordinators have endeavored to catalog and describe the Auction items correctly, but all items are
sold “as is” and the Auction Coordinators neither warrant nor represent and in no way are responsible for the
correctness of description, or genuineness, authorship, provenance or condition to represent cash value and, once
given to the purchaser will not be replaced (if lost or otherwise). No statement contained in the Catalog or made
orally at the Auction or elsewhere shall be deemed to such a warranty representation or assumption of liability.
11. Certificates are the same as cash and cannot be replaced by the Auction if lost or stolen. These trips are only
suggested, should you wish to extend you stays you must coordinate with the donor directly, at your expense.

12. Neither Beverly Hills Bar Association, nor Knock Out Productions shall be liable to winners for any failure, delay,
cancellation, interruption or changes to any provision of services, events or travel packages purchased which is
occasioned by causes beyond our control including, but not restricted to fires, earthquakes, floods or other
inclement weather, war, civil commotion or disturbances, strikes, lockouts, labor disputes, accidents, epidemic,
interruptions in or delays of transportation services, electrical or power failures or outages, failures or delays in
obtaining delivery from donors or manufacturers, suspension or non-renewal of the venue’s license for any reasons
whatsoever, or any act ruling, regulation or law of any government bureau or agency or public authority. Delays so
caused shall not release winners from their obligations to accept and pay for the items purchased. Item/certificates

2005 Jonata La Tierra de Jonata Sangiovese, Red Wine
Nose of fresh strawberries, ripe raspberries and savory nuances give way to elusive floral notes of lavender
and violets. An earthy, dusty character also shines through in the aromatic spectrum. Flavors of tart cherry and
minerals. Restrained, but still showing signs of a future lush and broad mouthfeel. Lively sangiovese acidity
and mouth coating tannins round out the finish.

Inky blue-purple in complexion, the wine bursts with a perfume of dark fruit, sage, acacia flowers, kirsch, and a

blackberry, mulberry, roasted plum, black tea, and bitter chocolate.
2011 Schramsberg Blanc De Blancs
The 2011 Blanc de Blancs has fresh aromas of green apple, pear, grapefruit and lime zest. The fruitful nose is
complemented by developed nuances of "fresh from the oven" bread and candied citrus. Generous flavors of
grapefruit, lime and pineapple are present in this wine. The palate is crisp on entry with a long, tangy and
refreshing acidity. While this wine can be enjoyed by itself as an aperitif, it is also perfect with fresh oysters
and other shellfish, crab cakes, ceviche and grilled sea bass. It is also delicious with lemon chicken and Thai
curries. Serve with aged Gouda or other hard cheeses, and as a counterpoint to soft triple creams.

DAY 1 AMSTERDAM
Arrive in Amsterdam, then transfer to your ship.* After boarding, the afternoon
is yours to explore the city on your own. If your arrival schedule permits and

DAY 2 KINDERDIJK
Sail to Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a tour of this ingenious
network of windmills and other flood management devices. You learn why the
windmills were built and see how they work, plus you enter an actual working
windmill for a tour of its mechanisms and living quarters. Return aboard for
lunch and an enjoyable afternoon of Dutch diversions: sample handcrafted
Dutch cheeses and jenever, a distilled juniper liquor, and try your hand
at sjoelen (Dutch table shuffleboard). Cruise through the night. (B, L, D)
DAY 3 COLOGNE
Continue along the Rhine this morning; arrive in Cologne and disembark for a
walking tour. Stroll through Old Town past St. Martin’s Church, and spend
some time inside Cologne’s Dom, a remarkable Gothic cathedral whose
construction was begun in 1248 and which was only completed in 1880.
Explore the dockside taverns, cafés and shops on your own—as always, your
Program Director can help you plan your free time. Dinner is served aboard

DAY 4 KOBLENZ & RÜDESHEIM
Proceed along the Rhine, disembarking to tour 700-year-old Marksburg Castle
and its museum. Lunch aboard as you enjoy this scenic passage, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site where castles overlook the river from their hilltop
locations.
Arrive in Rüdesheim in the late afternoon. Spend free time in the pedestrianonly Drosselgasse and sample a glass of locally produced wine at one of the
restaurants or wine bars—dine aboard or in town if you prefer. Ship departs

DAY 5 HEIDELBERG & SPEYER
Cruise through the morning enjoying brunch and the passing scenery. Arrive in
Mannheim and disembark for a journey to Heidelberg to see Germany’s oldest
university, founded in 1386. Then visit the beautiful sandstone ruins of
imposing Heidelberg Castle, and take in the scenery of the Neckar River Valley
and the city’s many red rooftops from its hilltop location. Continue with a
walking tour through the Old Town to Heidelberg’s renowned gates.
Rejoin your ship in Speyer this afternoon and take some time to look around.
You dock in full view of the imposing Romanesque cathedral, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. Built in the 11th century on the site of a former basilica, the
building’s design was highly influential upon Romanesque architecture for
centuries to come, and is the final resting place of eight German monarchs. Its
soaring interior features graceful rows of sandstone columns and a large
stained-glass window installed in the western façade during a later Gothic

DAY 6 STRASBOURG
Dock this morning in Kehl and disembark for a guided tour of Strasbourg. See
the European Parliament and tour the interior of the city’s famed cathedral.
The afternoon is free to further explore this Alsatian city’s blend of French
and German cultures—fabulous churches, medieval covered bridges,
beautiful parks and some lovely Art Nouveau and modernist architecture.
Dine aboard and enjoy free time this evening in the quaint little city of Kehl.

DAY 7 BREISACH
After cruising through the night you arrive during breakfast in Breisach,
gateway to the Black Forest. Take a scenic excursion through the area’s
renowned mountain landscape, rolling meadows and dense forests. Once
there, visit a local workshop and see a cuckoo clock-making
demonstration. Return to Breisach for some free time before an early
evening departure. Or, choose an optional excursion to the quaint Alsatian
town of Colmar. Dine aboard while you cruise on to Basel, arriving around

Three Magnums
Three magnums of 2011 Bernardus Monterey County Chardonnay
2011 was another beautiful year for growing high quality grapes on
the Central Coast. Moderate sunny weather throughout the summer
and beautifully warm, dry conditions during September and October
provided us with an array of superb wines for this vintage.
This Monterey Chardonnay is assembled from specially selected growers primarily in the Arroyo Seco and
Santa Lucia Highlands appellations. Each of these contributes unique aromas and flavors, which compliment
each other to create a Chardonnay of extraordinary character and finesse.
At harvest, all the grapes are hand picked after careful evaluation for ripeness. The grapes are then very gently
pressed in order to obtain the highest quality juice. This is then transferred to small French oak barrels for
fermentation. All barrels undergo a malo-lactic fermentation and are hand-stirred every two weeks until
shortly before blending and bottling.
The 2011 Monterey Chardonnay exhibits all the characteristics that make Bernardus Chardonnay such a
perennial favorite. Complex aromas of ripe apple and pear are accented by notes of vanilla and subtle toasty
oak. On the palate, the texture is rich and full-bodied, exhibiting intense flavors of citrus, fig and mineral. The
soft rich texture is beautifully balanced by a note of crisp acidity which is the hallmark of excellent Chardonnay
from Monterey County.

Talisman 2009 "Adastra Vineyard" Los Carneros Pinot Noir
This wine is big, bold, bright, and compelling. Full of complex fruity goodness – this is a great combination of
cranberry, pomegranate, with a hint of blue plum and cola. There’s also mineral/gravel, notes of sandalwood,
and exotic Asian spices. Add to that vanilla cream, caramel, a full body, round viscosity and a very persistent
finish, and you have an exciting, very complete wine.
True to form, the 2008 Adastra is a truly compelling, seductive wine. The alluring and impactful nose includes
rose petal, sandalwood, orange rind, and bright cherry components. The creamy, dense texture accents
cherries jubilee and dark berry flavors with a broad core of sweet, intense, ripe fruit, all held together with
super-fine-grained tannins and a very persistent, mouthwatering finish.
Light red. Complex, herb-accented aromas of red currant, pomegranate, botanical herbs and woodsmoke;
smells like a wild amaro. Taut, focused and pure, with refreshingly bitter red berry and cherry skin flavors and
a touch of blood orange. The firm finish displays very good clarity and lingering sweetness.
Seductive notes of mineral, concentrated pure strawberry, and a subtle hint of violets comprise the aroma and
provide a hint of the flavors to follow. The mouth opens with a silky texture and explodes into very sweet,
perfectly ripe fruit and earthy minerality that adds great complexity. Overall, this wine is very elegant and
exquisitely balanced. Structured, bright, and persistent, this is a beautiful wine to pair with savory dishes.

Émigré is mix of varieties - Grenache, Cabernet and Shiraz, sourced from an array of vineyards across the
Barossa. Like Exile the vines are pruned severely and receive two runs of green harvesting finally producing
one tonne to the acre. Émigré grapes are then hand picked. The wine receives extreme cold maceration. The
wines have their malolactic in new French oak, and are thereafter in the same oak.
Tasting Notes
Fabulous texture with elegant yet subtle notes of crushed cherries, earth, blackberry, chocolate pepper and
saddle leather. The tannins are almost melted as with the Exile and there is a superb backbone and lift to the
wine before a long bright finish. A beautiful bouquet of cassis, blueberries, raspberry, violet, pepper, smoked
meats and eucalyptus bring this wine alive! This wine will evolve beautifully in bottle over the next 10 or so
years.

The history of Orin Swift Cellars dates back to 1995 when on a lark, David Swift Phinney took a friend up on an

Robert Mondavi Winery in 1997 as a temporary harvest worker. Deciding that if he was going to work this
hard, it would eventually have to be for himself, so in 1998 he founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin is his father’s
middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. With two tons of zinfandel and not much else, he spent
the next decade making wine for others as well as himself and grew the company into a multinational brand
that now includes 300 acres of vineyards in the Southwest of France.
