Beaumont Tiles
scores a century
100th outlet opens in North Manly
Various articles in previous editions
of Tile Today have touched on the
possibility of a major franchise
operation or an organised buying
group opening 100 outlets. It has
been clear for some time that
Beaumont Tiles would be the first
to achieve that goal, so it came
as no surprise to discover that
Beaumont’s were on the cusp of
opening their one hundredth outlet
in North Manly, Sydney.
I
n a recent interview in Tile Today
(Issue 78) Bob Beaumont spoke
about his feelings as Beaumont’s
moved towards its century: “I am as
excited and as motivated as I have ever
been. I am really pleased with the progress our team has made. We will pass
100 outlets pretty soon. That’s pretty
exciting. However, it is important to
be continually grounded in reality and
not get too carried away. After all, when
you have hundreds of people relying on
you for their livelihoods and future it is
pretty sobering.”
At the beginning of 2013 Beaumont
Tiles was importing 60 containers
of product per week, making them
Australia’s single largest tile importer.
Since then a number of new outlets

have opened, and the number of containers will have climbed higher than
60 per week, or 3000 plus per annum.
Beaumont Tiles’ growth relies heavily on its highly motivated staff, tried
and tested suppliers and sophisticated
marketing machine. With major distribution hubs in Melbourne and Sydney,
and a new hub set to open in Brisbane,
there can be no doubt that opening 100
outlets is just another stepping stone in
its remarkable expansion.

TRENDS
Staying abreast of every changing
trend in colour, shape and texture is
a real challenge, one that Beaumont’s
clearly relish. CEO Bob Beaumont recently led a team of tile experts and
Combining different
shapes, colours and
textures was a prime
theme at Cersaie.

“We know through our sales and
research that cool airy neutrals, natural stones and woods which generate a
calm environment are highly favoured.
Australians see their home and personal space as a place to retreat to and
escape the rat race,” she said.
“There are some gorgeous variations
on feature tiles in every imaginable pattern including Morocco-inspired prints,
lines, squares, geometrics, diamonds and
stars. These look very stylish as a floor in
themselves or as a decorative splash bordering plainer tiles or an inset.”
Bob Beaumont summarised the
experience:
“New technology such as digital
printing and the creation of tiles in
ever increasing larger formats has really changed the landscape and opened
up different styling pathways for the
category.”
“We’re now competing strongly with
natural materials such as timbers and
stones because technology advancements have enabled tiles to look the
same and be more efficient and durable.
Our suppliers need to be on top of these
innovations.”
When a batsman reaches a century,
150 is the next target. As Beaumont
Tiles’ opening bat one anticipates that
Mr Beaumont is planning a long stay at
the crease.

Bob explained his philosophy, “We
build relationships with suppliers that
need to endure. As a major retailer we’re
literally the eyes of
Australian homeowners around the globe
and our mission is to
be an integral part of
the future direction of
tiling.”
