I have been around Arrowhead literally my whole life and have had many job titles while working here. I have been taught by two of the best and most knowledgeable camp people in the area, Aunt Ellen and Uncle Howie, and I want to thank them for all the wisdom they have shared with me. I pledge to continue their same hard work and dedication to serving your children as they have for the last 30 years. What Arrowhead has meant to me over the last 31 years is a lifetime of happiness. A place where kids can grow and realize their full potential. A place where a child can play in the warm summer breeze while feeling safe and secure. A place that builds children’s self esteem while teaching skills that last into adulthood. A place where a stranger can become a lifelong friend. A place where memories are created that last a lifetime. This is what I would like to pass down to our incoming campers and staff and hope that we all become lifetime Arrowheaders. It is a great privilege to be continuing my family’s tradition as we celebrate Arrowhead’s 60th birthday. Here’s to 60 more years of summer fun! ARROWHEAD in 2015....Home of the "happy campers!" Yours for better campingUncle Brian Witt Junior Camp The summer of 2014 was a fantastic one at ARROWHEAD Day Camp. We had many returning campers as well as some new friends. Our fabulous Counselors brought them all together to be an important piece of our ARROWHEAD family. Junior Campers spent the summer learning and playing with their new friends! They could be seen zipping down the zip line, coasting across the lake, racing over the fields, creating in Arts and Crafts, and gliding through the crystal clear waters of the ARROWHEAD pools. Even the youngest of our campers at ARROWHEAD mastered these activities with a smile. Junior Campers were always the most proud to share their accomplishments, whether it be moving from a Polliwog to a Guppy, giving Thunder or Lightning a try, or showing off their freshly earned GaGa knuckles…. it was definitely worth applause! The incredible Junior Camp staff modeled, guided, and encouraged all summer long. I can’t wait to see what these kids can do in the Summer of 2015! AUNT KRISTEN CHENEY Intermediate Camp What a Summer! 2015 was a great Summer at ARROWHEAD Day Camp! From week 1, to week 8… there was always something going on! The intermediate campers spent the summer running, climbing, swimming, putting, dancing, singing, creating, shooting, pitching, sliding, and everything in between. Many intermediate campers took part in our summer production of Mary Poppins. They worked hard practicing all summer long, and their hard work paid off for the final show in August. Leagues also kept the Intermediate campers busy all summer. We played Soccer and GaGa in a fierce competition for the final trophy at the end of the season. Team Emmett and Team Anna walked away with their respective trophies this year! Who will take it all next summer? For many, it was the first summer to experience Color Week and all the excitement that it brings. From the disco, to the magic show; from the Land Carnival, to the Swim Carnival; from Color Week, to Special Clubs….. The intermediate campers got a taste of it all this summer! I can’t wait to see everyone for the Summer of 2015! AUNT KRISTEN CHENEY Senior Camp The summer of 2014 flew by and it is hard to imagine that in the dead of winter camp is only 5 months away! Last summer was so fun and memorable thanks to a great staff and of course our great campers. The senior camp never ceases to amaze me with their model behavior in sportsmanship and enthusiasm that really rubs off on our younger campers. Leagues were a huge success again this year. The girl’s league was changed so that they rotated games between gaga, newcomb and kickball which made the playing field more fun and competitive. The boys continued with their two seasons of softball league capped off by our counselor/camper game the last week of the season. The Flyers and Sixers also were able to participate in basketball/ street hockey league, another great change to our league schedule. Having club 2 times a day is something that every senior camper loves. Our outside vendors this year included balloon making, scuba diving, rocketry, legos and even how to perform magic tricks. Our end of the year activities were the Pentathlon Race, Road Runner, Superstar day and of course Color Week. This all culminated with our trip roller-skating that was filled with great memories. Thank you to all my wonderful staff members for making last summer a fun and most importantly safe summer. Also a huge thanks to my campers, without you Arrowhead could not be the amazing camp that it is today. Study hard, and camp will be here before you know it! UNCLE BRIAN WITT TRANSPORTATION After 59 summers of getting campers to and from camp safely every day, we are proud to say Arrowhead’s transportation system is going strong. While most people don’t see “behind the curtain” of our transportation procedures, we start planning strategies long before the season begins. We work tirelessly all spring reading maps, satellites and computer programs to ensure our transportation routes are convenient and safe for our campers. We also hire professional staff members to drive our vehicles as well as our bus counselors. The most up-to-date means of transportation (large bus, mini-bus and fourteen passenger vans) are used and tailored for effective pickup in a variety of communities. Most importantly, we insist on practicing until all the routes run perfectly. With this commitment, we will get your children to camp safely in the shortest possible time. I hope all of you come out for our new season. See you in 2015! AUNT JULIE GILBERT FOOD FOR THOUGHT AQUATIC UPDATE As the approach of the 2015 summer season nears, ARROWHEAD’S pool staff is feeling the anticipation of another fabulous summer. The swim schools are awaiting the arrival of new and returning swimmers and the water slides and diving boards are hoping to see the excited faces of all those Deep Water Swimmers. The instructional morning program uses the best teachings & techniques from the American Red Cross. We have 10 swim schools; teaching strokes from beginner through intermediate and up to advanced. As children progress through our system, swim cards are mailed home to show parents the skills mastered by your child. Children use their skills learned in the morning during afternoon swim, which is filled with fun as our intermediate and advanced swimmers use the water slides and diving board. Beginning swimmers gain confidence as they see how much fun the water can be. Keep safe and stay well. See you very soon! th Our 59 summer in the Mess Hall was the most delicious one yet! Our campers and staff still enjoyed chowing down on classics like French bread pizza and grilled cheese, and also couldn’t get enough of some of our newer menu additions like quesadillas and turkey wraps! We had a great kitchen staff this year as well. Lunch would not be possible without Uncle Moe, who took pride in seeing everyone enjoy their daily lunch, Uncle Matt's hot dog skills and expertly crafted bug juice, Uncle Jon's super fluffy fluff sandwiches, Uncle Isiah’s salad bar, and of course our amazing cooks who are, as we sing every year at color week songfest, really cool. I have enjoyed watching the happy campers eat and savor their meals just as much as I did when I was a camper. The mess hall is the place where everyone comes together to share meals and make memories. It has been an honor and a privilege to preserve this camp tradition. This year, our Green Team was Army and our White team was Navy. Color Week “broke” this year as a surprise to our campers when the entire camp was led to the lake by the directors. The Green Team sponsors, Aunt Amanda, Aunt Heather, Uncle Kevin and Uncle Jake, ran out to have a “battle” with the White Team sponsors, Uncle Zach, Aunt Deena, Aunt Caitlyn and Aunt Tori. After the performance, the sponsors threw out treats and prizes to the excited crowd of campers. The enthusiasm of the sponsors was great and Color Week 2014 was off to a wonderful start. Throughout the week the campers were divided up amongst their bunk between the 2 teams. All of the campers did a great job showing great sportsmanship towards each other while the events took place. Special events included the intermediate and senior camp swim relay races and the senior camp marathon. The score went back and forth throughout the week culminating with our song fest. The judges had a near impossible time choosing the winner, but in the end, and very narrowly, the Green army team pulled out the victory. Both teams put forth wonderful effort and enthusiasm while demonstrating remarkable sportsmanship. The sponsors, kings and queens’ enthusiasm motivated campers on both teams and the excitement was contagious! Congratulations to all and special thanks to our sponsors for making Color Week so successful! 2014 Kings & Queens GREEN: WHITE: QUEEN: Kayla Higgins QUEEN: Geri Kohn KING: Ben Foster KING: Ben Abt Native American Day The end of the summer always brings a special visit from Chief Arrowhead. The older campers close Color Week with wise words from the Chief, and Junior Camp gets a special visit during Native American Day. This year, the Junior Campers rotated through craft stations before their visit. They worked on Native American necklaces, feather headdresses, and Totem Poles. They also had their faces painted by their counselors and junior counselors. Chief Arrowhead joined them and told them a story and juggled for them. Everyone had a great time! PAJAMA DAY Pajama Day was a great day at ARROWHEAD! All of the Junior Campers wore their pajama/cozy clothes to camp, and many brought stuffed animals or favorite “blankies”. The campers rotated through groups to listen to the Senior Counselors read favorite stories. When everyone finished the rotation of stories we regrouped in the Mess Hall for a tasty treat of Dunkin Donuts Munchkins and Orange Juice. It was a wonderful way to start the day in Junior Camp. MTV DAY MTV Day was a competition between our Senior Camp girl bunks. The girls spend the weeks leading up to MTV Day choreographing their own songs before dancing in front of the entire intermediate girls bunks. The bunks are judged on Choreography, Costumes, Entertainment, and Spirit. In the end the Sapphires bunk won dancing to the song “Cruzin' for a Bruzin" from Teen Beach Movie Road Runner Race Racers Take Your Mark, Get Set….and….GO! The track at Arrowhead was a bustling spot during our annual Road Runner Race. The top 2 runners from each bunk participated in camp level competitions. All other campers eagerly cheered their friends and bunkmates on. Every race was exciting, and every runner did a great job! The participants started in the pool where they had to complete a grueling two lap swim. Afterwards, they put on their shoes and ran towards boating. The boating leg of the race consisted of the campers going around the beginner canoe course. After docking their boat, campers ran over to archery to pop a balloon with their arrows, before ending up at marksmanship to pop two more balloons. The race was very close, but in the end, for the 2nd year in a row, we had a sibling combo win both heats of the pentathlon!
