Story By Brian Sullivan & Kristine Fields Photos By Stuart Friedel Saturday July 23, 2016. This is the date when people from all over the State, and beyond gathered together to enjoy the first annual “Party On The Patio” at The Draft Sports Bar inside the beautiful Tulalip Casino Resort. It all began with a conversation between Stan Larreau, Medalist Dart League MVP last season, and Arnold Clifford, Manager of The Draft Sports Bar & Grill at the Tulalip Casino, about having a dart tournament out on the patio some afternoon. They took their idea to Gary Tinder, Owner of GT Darts, who thought it would be a blast. Next the group contacted NS Entertainment, provider of the Medalist Dart Boards, for input and assistance with equipment and tournament staff. Suddenly, “The Party on the Patio” was a reality! A few short weeks later, with a date selected, an excellent venue ready and willing, and all the infrastructure in place, pre-registration was opened. It didn’t take long. Within 24 www.themedallion.net Contributing Writers: Rocky & Kristine Fields Stephanie Spinler, Anthony Smith Chris Stearns, Aubrey Beaudin Clint Westmoreland & a host of others! ____________________________ Dave Simerly and Ed Spahr Grab 3rd Place! hours there were 64 teams committed, plus a few alternates just in case someone had to withdraw. A week later everyone was paid up and ready to throw. Fast forward to Saturday, July 23rd, at 1pm. The Draft Sports Bar & Grill was ready and their patio was playing host to 128 competitors plus 30-40 spectators and the first darts were flying. The next 8 hours was a showcase of awesome darts and awesome people. The tournament ran smoothly, the players were great and Arnold and his staff kept everybody happy and well fed. “Have you ever seen a pretzel that big?!?” In the end it came down to Kevin Luke and Soneya Lund playing Jeff Springer Jr and Lisa Filer in the finals WWW.THEMEDALLION.NET Submission Guidelines: 2 Feature articles, letters, and editorials (up to 300 words) are always welcome and may be sent to the address, or email shown above. By Stephanie Spinler July 8th, 9th, 10th the WWDL engulfed the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester with their numerous dart players eager to play for all the prize money, collected all year. Friday night brought the fight for one of the biggest trophies I have ever seen, the location challenge. The top 2 females and top 2 males who earned the most league points from their location battled off to see who is the best of the best. Just left and Dub Pub, both winning their first 4 matches, battled off for the driver’s seat. In a heated battle they played all the way to the grudge match, with Just Left taking the driver’s seat. Into the losers side Dub Pub went, match after match playing some AMAZING teams. Five or six teams later Dub Pub (Stephanie Spinler, David Simerly, Bob LeMaster, and Julie Harrison) looked at their final match against Just Left (Brad Peters, Traci Lamb, Jim Holland, Teresa Hestkind). First to WWW.THEMEDALLION.NET Gang’s All Here! Hope You Had As Much Fun At COD As These Folks All Did! 4 3 wins, back and forth, back and forth, taking it all the way to the 5th game. A huge battle, in the end, Just left takes home with the trophy and $1600 dollar prize money, with Dub Pub coming in 2nd for $1200. Amazing darts, and great times! Match Madness was also at the same time, 2 tournaments for trophies, bragging rights and cash. The group from Thunderbird took the Match Madness trophy home for the 2nd time in a row! Saturday morning brought the trios bring. Many good trios teams were put together to fight out for the best of the best. In the afternoon, there was the trios draw. Random trios teams drawn and ready to battle. Saturday night the doubles draw was a good way to mix everyone up and have them battle it out. Sunday morning was the doubles bring. Wow! The talent was in the room, and everyone was ready to roll. Sunday afternoon was the long awaited all stars. The top 16 men and 16 women from the WWDL start off with a 4 person round robin where the top 2 advance, then get a blind draw to play for the big money. Winners of this were Kelly Papuzza & Jennifer Mounts. The men’s winners were Rob Morrison & Brad Peters. The Sunday night event was the quad draw worth 50pt for the next year. The place was packed as everyone was ready to collect those points and the cash prize at the end. It was a great tourney and a lot of fun. Can’t wait for next year! Location Challenge Winners July 2016 WWW.THEMEDALLION.NET 5 PHO LIU; BURIEN, WA 4X7 Cup By Clint Westmoreland Who wouldn’t want to spend an afternoon at Pho Liu, with Jimmy and his staff, watching a great dart match? July 12th the defending team from Pho Liu, Jon, Aaron, Nick and Kal came ready to defend yet again against the hardened team from Cloud 9, consisting of Richard, Rick, Manny and Lauren. The teams were ready to battle it out and see if they could change the tides. The battle commenced right from the first game of 01 and carried all the way through to game 30 when the match was decided. Every player had some great moments, especially Lauren who was voted by both teams the MVP of the day. When the dust settled, and the last dart hit the board, it was Pho Liu that defended once again. Every game was close, and the entire match was fun to watch. And Jimmy as always, is a great host. Check out the upcoming Cup Match Dates and go out and support your local teams! It’s always a good time. Pho Liu Hangs On To The 4X7 Once Again! Congratulations Guys! The Fourth Annual Dart Diva Shoot By Stephanie Spinler & Heather, Patti & Mary and many other teams before playing Lida & Brittany again for third or to move on to second or better. Holly and Stephanie were victorious and moved on to play Tabby & Mary. Holly & Stephanie had to beat Tabby & Mary twice. The first match was intense, with Holly & Stephanie beating them and bringing Tabby & Mary into the same bracket. One more match of 501, cricket, choice, taking it down to the very last game. In the end the team of Tabby and Mary came out on top. It was a battle, a great time, with lots of good darts, good times and great company! Each year this shoot gets even more exciting with new players from all around the State of Washington. Cheers to the 4th annual Angry Beaver Shoot! It was great! Mary had little gifts for everyone too. The charts were drawn and away we went. Tabby and Mary took their first four matches and were sitting in the drivers seat. The rest of the teams went match by match to see who would go and compete for that first place win and prize money.
