Here’s one to remind you what green grass looks like, from the Fun Fly a couple years ago at Wind Lake Turf. Larry Petricek and Roger Nickolaus helped me out with my newly acquired Sig Kadet. Bill Stilley built this model, and as you can see, raised the trailing edge to improve flight characteristics. It is powered by a dependable Italian Supertigre .51. March 4, 2014 Meeting Minutes The March meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by President Larry Petricek. 3 members, 3 guests and 3 officers made it to the meeting. Hopefully, attendance will pick up as the weather improves. Previous Minutes: It was moved and seconded to accept the February meeting minutes. Treasurer’s Report: Roger Nickolaus read our checking account balance to the membership. Renewals continue to boost our bottom line. Thanks, guys, for your loyalty and dedication to our grand old club! Vice President’s Report: Roger Nickolaus remarked that he has the Annual Float Fun Fly paperwork completed and we’re a GO for Richard Bong on Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10. The MARKS-RRCC Fun Fly is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 with a rain date of Sunday, June 29. We had more than our share of wind and rain in 2013! Sunshine: Carl Degner’s passing is a great loss to all who know him. He will always be remembered as “The only man who flew to work and never left the city limits.” Milwaukee Association of R/C Clubs: The Semi-Annual meeting is February 15. Club events for 2014 will be finalized and printed for distribution. The January Auction and Swap Meet at the Waukesha Expo Center was negatively affected by the weather. The only MARKS member to volunteer was Larry Petricek, and he returned his paycheck. Other club members followed his lead to help the Association. Roger and Larry drove down to Wheaton, Illinois with a truckload of models. They brought most of it back. Weather was to blame, again! They also attended the Swap Meet in Appleton, but barely made enough to fill the tank to get back home. Old Business: The Pewaukee Lake Antique and Classic Boats event was discussed again. We were asked to fly our float planes over the R/C boats that would be operating on the water. The Association regarded this situation as a safety concern, and declined the invitation. Our website, www.marksrcclub.com is up and running. Now that the snow is receding and we will be going out to Wind Lake Turf soon, please remember: DON’T WALK ON THE GRASS IF FROST IS PRESENT - DON’T LEAVE FOOTPRINTS - STAY ON FIRM DRY GROUND. Thank you! New Business: The Fond du Lac Fun Fly is Saturday, June 14, from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The Warbirds and Classics event is Thursday, August 14 to Sunday, August 17. Russell Knetzger remarked that the Milwaukee R/C Association is considering allowing indoor flying at the 2015 Waukesha Expo Swap Meet, in the afternoon after most of the vendors have left. There will be a charge to fly, and it is hoped that the public will stay to watch. Tim Hoff suggested that the MARKS put our brochures at the local Hobby Shops to make our club better known and to hopefully increase the membership numbers. Show & Tell: No meeting photos this month because I lost the photos from my cell phone. Roger Nickolaus brought his “new” Northstar, purchased at the Swap Meet. It is powered by an O.S. 46 with a tuned pipe. He waterproofed the model with gutter seal. Bill Stilley donated a beautiful Sig Kadet Senior, complete with servos, for the Raffle. Tim Hoff was the lucky winner and $70 was deposited in the checking account! Tim Hoff brought in several scratch built electric powered styrofoam indoor flyers. He credited Tom Kunath for his assistance in the design and construction. Russell Knetzger brought in a nice collection of magazines, free for the taking. He also invited the attendees to the Mitchell Gallery of Flight on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 P.M. for the next presentation by a member of the “Greatest Generation”. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Charlie Reich, MARKS Sec-Ed. 2014 M.A.R.K.S.
